Title: hello techies services shutdown
Post by: FLOTSOM on February 08, 2009, 03:43:57 PM
not too long ago (within the last 2 weeks i think) someone posted a thread about a services shut down tool/utility. i guess it is similar to alacritypc in that it shuts down the services starts additional programs and them it will restart everything when you are done.

i currently use alacrity but it has a conflict with some of the hardware that i am running. so if anbody can find the thread (i have looked but cant remember the name of it or who wrote it) or can tell me the program name or site i would appreciate it.

thanx

i have used both of those in the past, they are both good but i like alacrity over each of them.

this is something that was just posted recently, i dont remember the name of the program or the poster, but i do remember the poster saying that he hoped skuzzy didnt get mad because he was promoting the program.

i looked at the program at the time, i was gonna dl it then but i had othet things to do and by the time i had gotten around to looking for it again i had forgotten all the relevant information to find it again.

thanx for your thoughts though!

Alacrity should not conflict with your hardware. Probably you are shutting down something critical that you should leave running. If you cant figure out what just delete your current profile and start over.

i have been trying that. but doing it one service at a time is a slooooooowwww process.

what is happening is if i run alacritypc to start AH then when im in any online arena (not of line practice) then my trackIR works for only a few seconds and then it becomes choppy and pauses or essentially stops altogether. now if this was my only issue i would just look for any services that control the trackIR. but inaddition to the trackIR issue my key board becomes very slow in responce, anything i type takes forever before it shows up in the text bar.

the only common denominators are alacrity and online. so it is hidden somewhere in there. something about alacrity is causing a usb bottle neck.

the other program that i am hunting for had a section that goes into further detail on the use of each service. alacrity gives a brief description of each service and then sends you to black vipers sight for more detail on some, im hoping this other program will be more invovled and detailed.

its got to be something or a couple of things that normally you wouldnt think of being related to both keys boards and trackIR (only when online) but in some manner work together to prevent the bottle neck that i am currently getting.

thanks again

Start TrackIR up and then hit ctrl-alt-del and Start your Task Manager. On the Applications tab right click on TrackIR and select 'Go To Process' and then right click the process and choose Set Prority and change it to Above Normal. Do not set it any higher.

You can find a list of services at Black Vipers website (http://www.blackviper.com/).

i would suggest that Challenge's solution is the actual problem.  You may have AH2 set at High Priority and it is killing everything else.  I had the same problem with my key board using FSAutostart with AH2 running at High Priority.

I would try to zoom in the map using insert and it wouldn't start for a second then it would zoom all the way in, keep going after I stopped pushing the key.  Joystick and controllers worked fine, keystrokes assigned to the joystick worked fine.

I thought it was my computer bogging down, getting overloaded or something.  I set AH2 back to Normal priority and it fixed everything.

I would suggest running all your game stuff at Normal Priority and, if anything else, running all the background junk at below normal priority.

Flotsom under the Aces High Profile of AlacrityPC select the Autostart tab and check to see what priority you have set. Dont change the TrackIR priority unless AH is set to Normal and if it isnt then you want to reset it to Normal and retest.

You need to setup trackir as an ap that runs before you start AH. It also lets you set the priority of trackir in that setup area. My problem is that it keeps shutting down my keyboard sound control and I don't have time to figure it out. I just shut down a few things manually and have enough head room not to worry.

You might want to check out a program by Animal (great guy and old AW and now AH dude), it's called XP Game Launcher and there are some post about it on the BBS somewhere.  Check out his website at http://home.comcast.net/~animl/  It seems like it's probably something that you are looking for.

All the Best...

Enditall2 is user friendly. All you do is padlock the programs you want running. Simple as apple pie.
