Title: JG51 Mölders
Post by: VonMessa on February 09, 2009, 10:35:50 PM
Does anyone have more info on this a/c (besides the pic I have)

I believe it's 3./JG 51

109E-4

Thanks, in advance

(In the meantime, I may order the Osprey book)

That skeletal hand is sweet!  If the plane is black, that would be one of my new favorite skins. :aok

Grup 1, 3/JG51.  I dint think that is a 109E-4  If it was, it would have a yellow nose.  The pic that i posted is the E-1 in 1939 at Speyer, Germany.  The E-4 was used 1940, August, France. I will see if i can find anything more on the E-4.

The photo is of an E-3. Note the round edge on the rear canopy glass (behind the flip-open section)? Note the MG/FF guns in the wings.

Definitely not an E-1, as they had 7mm wing guns, no barrel protruding from leading edge, and no bulge under the wing to house the 20mm cannon drum.

I thought about skinning one like this a while back, never got around to it. Several 109Es never got made but I was semi-interested in doing.

Not all Bf-109E-4s had yellow noses...

Von

From what i have been told of your photot is that is from 3./JG51, Staffel 3 of I./JG51. The skeleton hand is the marking of 3./JG51 while the shield is that of I./JG51.  Krusty is right on the E-3 Not E-1 or E-4.

Wasn't sure if it was a 3 or 4.

I'll ask now, is there a problem (community wise) with skinning OUR Emmil like this (as I'm sure  an E-3 is not in the works)?

I hope it's OK as I have finished it about 3/4 of the way.      :noid

Here is the clip from the Osprey book WITH the caption (I cut it off earlier).

Hope you r not asking me.  That up to AH.  I am still trying to learn how to do this stuff.  I guess it will be ok.  It is not like you are putting that skin on a B-24.

But I am asking you  :D

And everyone else.

I will also ask HTC, but as we have a few other minor aberrations (i.e. 190 A-4 paint jobs on OUR 190 A-5, and maybe a few others that I can't think of at this very moment) I don't see a big issue with it.

190A6 actually not a 190A4.  I called and got permission before doing it.

support@hitechcreations.com

Just email there and tell them whats going on. I don't see a big deal with a E3 skin on an E4 they're pretty much the same plane. Right know I have an A4 our an A5, a G10 on our K4 and a A9 on our A8.

Good Grief Von, I was trying to get you and Motherland to do all three 190s in the picture I posted.  Look in your forum for the thread.  The other two were A7s.

I got permission, I refuse to implicate the hard working HTC employees by name.  :noid

I found info & drawings/pics on Molder's 109D-1, E-3 & F-4.  Couldn't find any showing that skeletal hand though.

Good!    :devil  Maybe it will prompt you to remember where you saw it.

In the meantime (whilst I am awaiting a response from HTC)  I call dibs on the 110 (below)

(as soon as they are remodeled, I'll get started on it)

Do you think there are any (near) future plans to update it?

I'd hate to do it twice.  :cry

E-3s and E-4s are nearly identical, served side-by-side, and E-3s were upgraded to E-4 specs (minor modification in MG/FF guns, to MG/FFm, and rear pilot armor, couple of minor things), so there is no problem skinning an E-3 onto AH2's E-4 plane.

I've already done it a couple of times.

Besides the lack of rudder pedals, I can't remember (while sitting at my desk at work) what else could/needs to be changed.

As far as scanning any pics for me?

Ausgeseichnet!

It would be greatly  appreciated   :aok

I'd purchase the books I need, but I hate to pay for ones that I can't really use.     :noid

EDIT:

I checked, there are still (2) bmp's used (like the Stuka still has.  Does having (2) mean it's not updated, yet?)  I know the Stuka needs some remodeling (like a variant such as the G model)   :devil

The 110 bmp's are still at 256 x 256, which I'm sure means it's not as updated as some other a/c.

They way taht HTC has been hinting at things, I'd hate do spend the time, and then have it updated.   :noid

The two I have now that put me back about $170 so unless you're really into skinning I wouldn't recommend it.

I found it, its a 110F-2 during an engine fire.

Edit: Open the pic's URL in a new window to get a higher res.

See above edit.

Thanks for the pic.  That's the one I was looking for !!   :aok

The pic that I have (in this post of the 110, which I believe is from a model kit) says it's a 110 G from 12/JG77.  Wonder if it's accurate?
