Title: Odd P-40 behaivior
Post by: Enker on February 10, 2009, 09:05:36 PM
I was in a fight, got a kill, and then was shot up by a Pony. No major damage, just had my flap destroyed. Keep in mind that my flaps were up at the time. I began to experience an odd yawing motion to the left, as if I had full rudder, even though I didn't. Why was it doing that?

I'm pretty sure you just lost a flap. P-40 flaps pop off pretty easily

I posted a different bug where I lost both wingtips symmetrically and the entire plane was unflyable and rolled horribly to one side, in the P-40E.

The F6F bug was only loss of rudder, no other damage.

Yea the F6F one is similar to what is being said happened to the P40 correct? Massive yaw to the side?

No, the P40 bug was more like massive roll to one side, and as soon as any flaps were used it got all squirrely like it was balanced on a ball (same issue I had with a spit that lost both wingtips, I think it's an FM bug)

Krusty, we're hitting the same ball here. Im on about the P40 bug posted HERE not the one you posted. The bug posted HERE sounds very similar to the F6F bug you posted a while ago

Doh, okay, I misunderstood.

I haven't checked his film but to me it just sounds like a flap was shot off at 1 notch. That would add drag to one side, make your course drift a bit, and/or roll you up into that wing.

The real answer is if it goes away when you lower the other flap to match. That's the first thing I try when I lose a flap on one side.

The flaps were up when I got it shot off. I was just zooming back when something got my flap, I would have been done for too if a squaddie hadn't  helped out.

Did you lower the flaps after the one was shot off?

I recently experienced what felt like a stuck down flap after I lowered them after taking damage and then raising them back up.  Felt like one flap down lowered then felt like the other side still down raised.
