I am doing some research and gathering material for an overhaul of a Midway website I had made a while back and could use some help identifying the plane in the picture above. To my knowledge, the only bombers operating out of Midway were b17's, which this obviously isn't. Thanks...

It's a Liberator or a Privateer. I don't know which, but that ground crewman looks a little light in the loafers so I'll say Navy, Privateer. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

If it is a Privateer, I seem to recall finding a website that had some sort of search feature matching noseart descriptions to the a/c.
But I can't find it(the website)! CRAP! (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif) (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif) (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif)

Should be a B24. The enlisted man there is in an Army uniform. That is if he is directly related to the plane anyhow and not just visiting.

Thanks for the responses. Did some checking and there were 4 b-26's based on Midway at that time. Any chance it might be a b26?
-
It is most definitely a B-24 or variant.
-
Absolutely no chance of being a B26. Now here's a thought. Several 24's were used as long range VIP transports for high ranking personnel. There is always a chance that this bird simply visited the area where it was photographed. It didn't have to be assigned to that area.

Ok, thanks again!

Possibly this?

Why this photo was included in that web site series of pictures from Midway is unusual.
