Title: C202 Convergence
Post by: Slade on February 11, 2009, 04:50:58 PM
Hello,

I love the C202.  There I said it.

What convergence and gun load out you have found most affective in the C202?

Thanks for your advice,

Slade  :salute

Hmmm...

Just landed 2 kills in my C202 against B-24s (yeah I cannot believe it either).  Convergence set to 400 with full gun load out.

That worked OK for bombers but I'm gonna tweak it back for fighters (375,350 etc.).

I like 300 in the C202. I only take the .50's, BTW.
Fun airplane :)

I would suggest something sub 350, I belive my convergence is set for 300 on that plane.

I would recommend 300, perhaps less.

Agreed.  The 12.7mm nose guns in the 202 may be half an inch in diameter, but they don't have anything like the punch of the US M2 .50 - except at very close range (under 200 yards), where they're quite effective.  (Didn't I read in one of these threads, some years ago, that the Italians had a mouse-sized explosive charge in the 12.7s?)  So I set them to 200 and take no shots beyond that.

The 7.7s present the same problem as the .303s on cannon-armed Spitfires.  They're perfectly useless beyond 200 yards, both in trajectory and in stopping power, so you have to set them for a close convergence.  200 yards works for me, although probably 175 would be better.  Having all guns set at 200 yards reminds me to hold fire until I'm that close.

Keep in mind the wing guns are only 7mm. Think Hurr1. You want to be between 150 and 250 yards when using those. The 50cals are pretty decent, but as stated not as good as US 50cals. The thing with them is that they hit a LOT harder when you fire them closer. Landing hits at 400 is just wasting ammo compared to landing hits at 200.

I set mine to about 250, and I try to get kills inside that range.

It's like flying a Hurr1. You set them in close, where you can actually DO damage, rather than further out where you just "tickle" the enemy.

I have it at max, and lob from a longer distance. Only use the 2x50's. Just aim above.
Since the ROF isn't that great, and the clip is decent, you can start landing hits while closing.
The wing guns are pretty useless, and getting rid of them saves weight.
