this may have been wished for before, can you all please take the icons off gv's,so it isin't so easy to get bombed by the enemy planes,it's hard enough to target other gv's when bomb's are dropping on your head.nad killing you 90% of the time,it wouldn't be to bad being bombed if the planes had to hunt for you.if at all possible, just need icon's to id friendly vehicles and planes, for communications.it's just to easy to get killed when in my panzer.this is just a wish.if possible to come true.

So you're good with turning off enemy plane tags while in a GV also?

Just eliminate ENEMY GV icons, this would have no effect for the GV fight while making it marginaly harder to detect GVs by air. You also couldn't pick and choose your target for the eggs so easily without getting low enough to I.D. it properly, possibly exposing yourself to that unwanted wurble ;) I'm actually a big an of removing icons from ALL GVs, bombing friendlies was a real possibility and concern, Whoa, kill shooter is a real M/F :aok

It's strange but with my settings all turned up high in AH, I have no troubles at all seeing a GV on the ground from beyond icon range.

This is true enough, yet to ID the target you would draw closer possibly within threat range, or if all GV icons were disabled you may bomb the wrong guy :aok

As long as they turn of AC icons for gv. :aok

The thing is, I really don't need to ID the target. I know that little shiny dot moving towards my field and town and firing is an enemy GV and that little bright green dot moving fast to the town is a M3. Without getting within icon range, I can tell by the firing of the GVs what kind it is, if its a single round coming from it, it's a tank. If there are a crap load of rounds coming from it, it's either an Ostie or a WW and as I mentioned, if it's bright green it's a M3.

So what exactly would be the problem with removing GV icons ? Sounds as if it wouldn't hinder you one bit, either way :aok

I have no problems with it, my original reply was just to point out that removing the icons isn't going to make spotting his GV any more difficult.

I think this is an outstanding idea.
AKAK, I see what you're saying, but the goal isn't to fool you, a veteran player. It's also not meant to hide GV's moving over open terrain.
The problem with GV icons as they are is every single enemy plane overhead gets a glaring beacon to you, regardless of whether you are using trees, terrain rises, or any other ground clutter to your advantage.
What turning off enemy GV icons would do would give a little more incentive to use terrain and vegetation as cover properly. It would also cut down on the impromptu attacks on GV's. What I mean by this term is when a pilot diverges from their intended flight plan because they see the bright red beacon of enemy GV's. They then go to strafe, bomb, or otherwise just buzz around and spot for friendly GV's. These pilots usually were not even looking for enemy GV's, they had a completely different sortie in mind, but the icons just draw too much attention.
It wouldn't take away from gameplay because, as AKAK said, those who are looking for enemy GV's from the air will still find them. I just don't think it's fair that players who take to the skies not even looking for GV's get a precise location and type, no matter what. GV'ing is about movement, surprise, and being able to avoid attention when it is unwanted. I'm not even a GV'er, and I realize how unfair it is to take away two of those three elements.

They look exactly like bushes to me. For some reason sheep, vehicle supplies and the little wagon next to the houses are easier for me to pick out amongst all the black dots on the ground.
This is just yet another "I die to easy" thread.

This wouldn't be an issue if trees and other obstructions would actually hide the icon from aircraft. As things are, I have tried to park my tank under a tree and I'm still easily spotted, and the reverse is true when I'm in an airplane.

On my end with settings on max, GVs (tanks, Osties, WW, 251, M16, and M8) look like little shiny dots and the M3 is a very bright green.

I agree removing enmey gv icons would only improve gameplay. Part of the fun should be finding them and desiding thier threat level to you, your countrymen and your base.
-
I say no to this idea. The icon system is ok as it is. If you are harassed from the air, then get a friend or two to provide air cover via plane or Wirbel/Ostie/M-16.

might be a neat idea with GV icons removed completely to give GVs a colored smoke round "country specific for marking problematic GVs for easier spotting, this may help promote a " fluid movement style of game play"

That don't always work as the turret is very easy to knock out on all AA gv's. Ok you'll say well bring supplies...fine but you can't sit on the spawn all day. You say spred out the supplies to the target area...fine but you have to get off the spawn to do that.
Taking away enemy icons will not hurt the IL2's chances of getting kills. Trust me that thing is nasty. Whatever the wirblewind brought to the game the IL2 with 37mm took away and then some.

No icons on gvs for any formation of bombers...........
ya its been wished for before

Another whine of "The bad ole pwanes won't wet me pway wiff my tanks!!!" cloaked in the guise of a request. GVs are by far too coddled and helped along AS-IS. GV camper dweebs ought not be able to get away with the things they try to, when any air cover is around.
Airplanes were death to GVs. Even with the uber super-powered (unhistorically so) Wirble you guys still whine.
I say tanks should have MORE icons. You should see enemy tanks while in a tank yourself. That's what I say.

u can say that, but the anti air guns r just as easaly takenout esp, by IL-2's with the 30 or 33 mm cannon's the don't even have to get close. esp. when they swarm u.

Spoken as somebody that's never tried it.
A single Wirb can kill 5 attackers and not take any damage in the process, even if the attackers are IL2s. It's so over-powered it's a frakking JOKE.

If the Icons are removed then what,? Honestly, how will it affect the game, and whom will it affect? Plenty of people want it and agree that it would not matter enough to be bad and hay after the major FLOP the last update was for GVs and others AH should be looking to doing something to make it up to us. The Icons are not hidden by trees BTW Iv seen them plenty. O and the line “We may bomb our own people” :huh Well Guess what, welcome to REALITY bud, its called blue on blue and Iv seen it first hand. It still happens even today. Back then it was ALOT more common then you kids will ever know. I have seen stacks of files on the subject from WW2. Thousands of BoB incidents, a lot kept from the publick to keep up civilian moral. And back then they didn't have HUDs to tell them, type, speed, heading, range to target,, you did it all FAST and by eye.
So kill the Icons save some processor a little work, and make it more interesting,, only people that will really have a need to gripe are those that know it will show off who can really bomb (not me lol) and who is just using the Icons to help them get easy kills. Yes I'm a GVer But I like dropping a few on some GVs from time to time and I know it will effect my aim but O well. TTFN & GLGH :salute

As it is you can't really see the icons until you're almost on top of them.
And although trees etc don't hide gv icons completely, they do help alot.
Its fine the way it is, bring some AA or friendly air cover with ya.
-
Yes, it is too easy to spot gv's from the air... For me, they sparkle like little gems when moving..
It allows me to home in on them, from K's away.. If I switch to "game mode" on my monitor,
they even glow.. It's too easy to plug'em with one or two 500lbers.. Icons off for ALL GV's,
would make me think twice before slingin the iron... With proper co/ord with tankers to ID
the target, (using gunfire to mark target), friendly fire, (NOT) shouldn't be a prob..
By all means turn them OFF!!!! Turn off killshooter too, just my 2c....

Not the M16. If you can get a good burst in, most planes crash to the ground, dead. Of course, this requires being a good shot with a set of plane guns, so gv'ers might have trouble with that.
-
This has been brought up before...
The jist of it was the icons on GVs were there to make it more realistic. IRL in a plane, you can spot a GV from 20 miles out (or so it seems ;)). Up in a plane on a clear day, you can see all the traffic, and in WWII, alot of the time when tanks were getting busted it was CAS...

Allies didn't drive very many Panzers IIRC.
