Been mentioned before, but AFAIK they've never been delt with.
It's been a while but from what I remember if your flap is shot off it isn't really shot off, it just shot off visualy and is physicaly jammed in the position it was in when it whas hit. They should either not fly off visualy when this happens or disapear completely. Also, apparantly they are prone only to jamming and never anything els, beause you can fly 600 mph and they will never break off. They should either break off or have auto-retract done away with completely.
As I said it's been a while, and I don't actualy remember if flaps can be shot off visualy and physicaly, but I do know (if this hasen't been delt with yet) that no amount of speed can damage them the way they are now.

New plane models, starting with the B25 I think, show the flaps jammed.

Why can't we have them just come off?

Because they don't actually get shot off, they merely are damaged to the point of inoperability.

I've always wished that we'd get a realistic flap model in this game that would take in account over speeding and battle damage and get rid of the auto-retracting BS we have now.

The problem is they actually do get shot off[/] from what you can see, but they act as if they are still there and jammed in position. It would be nice to see an update to the damage model where sometimes they get shot all the way off and are displayed as such, and sometimes they get jammed but the graphical representation of the flap stays there.
I also agree with the idea of doing away with auto-retract for planes that are not so equipped, which if memory serves is just about everything but the N1K.

From what I understand, a lot of the USN/USMC birds had blow-back flaps like the F4F/F6F. It would be somewhat interesting to see, since I've heard that in real life pilots would set a notch or 2 of flaps when they were going fast enough that they wouldn't deploy at the time. If they slowed down to fight, auto-flaps. At least, thats what I read on here

Interesting... A blank page; highly informational. I like your thinking! :D

didn't we used to have that?

Nope, not in Aces High. There was in Air Warrior, damaged my flaps a couple of times over speeding.

Huh, I can remember taking off, getting into a fight, pressing a button, and something breaking off... It was gear :lol
