Toby Keith ain't all that country. He just sounds like it because he twangs.
*edit* regardless of that, he's awesome for the tremendous support he always shows to the troops.
-
the most kinda country kind of music i listen to is lynard skynard lol

Twangs....<shuttter> Long live ROCK! Some of the guys at work listen to country and it just pisses me off. When I listen to "Let the bodies hit the floor" it pumps me up...and puts a smile on my face. Only good thing about country is some of the female singers....fell in love with a few over the years.

yea, again, i normally listen to metal and rock lol, this is the only country song i like

My opinion, also.
As I own a DJ business, my music tastes are very broad.
But.....
When I think of C & W music, I think of George Jones, Hank Sr., Patsy Cline, etc.
The "new" country is more redneck rock (not meant as offensive) than country. It's just a bit more contrived, and less dismal as say "Coal Miner's Daughter" which is real, and about real things. The same thing happens in Rock & Roll when artists become rich and famous. Look at Metallica, most of the new music from them stinks because they now have to think about what to write, instead of writing about the way their life is (i.e. no more garage band, dirt-poor, eating baloney-in-hand sandwiches waiting to catch a break) The anger and hunger that they once had is now assuaged by the 5 Bentley's in the 10 car garage.
(Only used Metallica as a quick example, don't get excited, fans)

I can't say i enjoyed listening to many of the songs posted here, i guess most country isn't to my taste. However Johnny Cash is fantastic, i've been a fan ever since i heard his album american III.

LOL cant stand any kind of country stuff, dont care who the lovely lady is, she still speaketh with a twang and a nasal voice. In fact, if we go somewhere and there is country in the background, all in the family start looking at me cuz they know I'm gonna start grumbling. They get a little aggrevated when I say I'm leaving a restaurant or business, because that twang crap is above a soft background level, but they have learned if they want me along, we go to places that dont play that crap.
Elevator, opera, blues, etc are preferred to country. Yeah, I like classic rock and new age stuff the best, and throw some ozzie type stuff and metallica type stuff and we are happy happy.

You boys need a little Robert Earl Keen

Maybe your family all start looking at you because they realize you're going to grumble and have a completely over the top reaction to something that really is very miniscule in the grand scheme of things.
FWIW, Toby Keith sounds like a bleating sheep to me with his vibrato.

I like Country/Western a lot. To me its a great music to go see live.
Theres a lot about "country" I like. Beer, barbecues, music, car racing, hunting, guns, fishing...ect. I'm a bigger redneck then a lot of rednecks I know.

Bluegrass music is the only country left. The country music now reminds me of 1970's country rock.

Great song. I've always liked this one and I'm not a big country music fan.

I've always been metal rock and in later years texas style blues (stevie ray vaughn etc.) but some country songs really get me. The wrights do you love me, red neck woman, I've got a real woody for that chick, so we can't catogorise our selfs musically or we just end up stepping out of our mold.

If you want to hear a band that really straddled the line. Take a look at Uncle Tupelo, I don't think there's much available online, most the youtube vids are pretty poor quality. But they were a pretty good idea of what happens when you take a couple punk rock kids who grew up listening to their parents country and folk albums. After they broke up two of the founders went on to form Wilco and Sun Volt.
