just a question
I have the basicest of basic sticks, logitech attack 3, does having something like ch gear make all that much difference and if so could you please elaborate for me so i can make up my mind to lash out the big bucks for this stuff.
thanks in advance

:rofl I remeber when I "arrived" too! Bombed someones Tiger with my P-47, and proceeded to kill him 3 more times in a PNZR and M16.  :lol Boy, did I hack up a storm that day!

I think so. Just had a Saitek X52 before, but got CH Flight Pedals and Track IR for Chirstmas. Strafing runs are a bit harder, but overall my gunnery has gotten better because I'm not accidentally applying rudder with my twisty stick.

Rudder pedals probably helped me the most, but some guys around here kick butt with just a mouse  :lol. To be perfectly honest, for the past week since I got this JS and thottle I've been fumbling around trying to remember where everything is. I want to hit flaps and gear goes down. Or try to zoom in and clipboard pops up  :furious Been playing for a couple years with the X52 and in the heat of the moment, forget I have whole different setup now.
It just struck me as funny that I get that Pm when I don't think I've sucked this bad in awhile  :lol

The advantage for me in getting the "more then basic" stuff is that I like to have as many controls at my fingertips and not have to use the keyboard. It's handy and I do spent alot of time online so I want to be comfortable doing what I enjoy.  :salute

CH  >  everything else.

Phatzo,  if you do have the cash it is worth it in the long run,  this stuff won't break easy and should last a life time.  Some people have had it for 10 years or more still working.

and yes it does make a difference IMO.  it is bordering on cheating against someone with a logicrap stick.

question.

Is the ch gear more stable than say  saitek as far as gun platform is concerned? I get quite a bit of bounce compared to some of the guys using ch gear in the films I have seen posted by some of the old pros.

well the sticks cant really be judged on gun platforms some planes are easier than others,

but lets say the CH stick axises are very accurate and can be calibrated/scaled very precisely.  The stick has two moving parts rather than a 3d ball spring in the base,  so elevator and aileron movement don't conflict each other unintentionally. Without the twist there are also no rudder inputs when you don't want them.

I got no problems with my X52 honestly, I got it set so that rudder only comes in when i twist a certain amount but it also doesnt go right to 100% rudder, just take some time setting it up in game :salute

Yes having a joystick helps and im sure all the othe gadgets do too :)

I just use my mouse, N50 and perhaps better SA than most. Due to lack of the other stuff i simply have to have excellent SA to survive in the skies.

I've had it since AH1 I think but I believe it can be found in Sketchs gunsight pack somewhere in the custom sounds and skins page. He has a link in his sig.

Do a search for Sketch's gunsights...it's in his package. It's named p51d

I have a Saitek av8tor for when I was traveling for work, and a full CH setup at home. The CH is wayyyyyy better.  The scaling is much more precise. I remember when "Fester" first got his CH stuff, I think his comments was something like "smooth as glass". With the Saitek I had a very hard time getting the nose bounce out of it to get it any where near the way my CH stick is. Also I had to scale down the rudder twisty so much it was like flying with half a rudder.

With all the extra buttons available with the CH gear I also find it much easier to keep my SA high, keep track of the enemy I'm fighting, as well as control flaps and throttle in a fight with the CH gear. With the Saitek stick I was far too limited. While looking up left at a bogie (two buttons), I would try to drop flaps (third button), and chop throttle (roller wheel), while trying to maneuver, all on the one stick! just not enough room for two hands in there! With the CH gear everything is split between the throttle and stick. I can fly any kind of mission and the only time my hands leave the stick or throttle is to type.

My twisty stick went out on my X52 so i started using the thumb rotary for rudder input. It is far more precise in my opinion and I would never go back to the twisty.
I eventually am going to get pedals though.

Nice work! Why is it that being told you are cheating and ruining the game, even though you really aren't doing anything special, makes it so worth while.... :aok

By the way, I love that gunsight too.

One point about equipment, especially sticks, is not to take the word of someone that had had it less than 90 days TOO seriously.  We fall in and out of love with them many times before getting comfortable or deciding we never will.
