Trying to find some info on a P-40 pic that I found. Would like to skin it but need some unit and color info. Here is the link for the post I made asking Corky for help. Thanks. <S>

Most, if not all of those pictures can be found here.
http://www.p40warhawk.com/ (http://www.p40warhawk.com/)
You might try to contact the site/contributor to see if they have any further information.
All of the black and white pictures appear to be RAAF P-40M/Kittyhawk III's produced in 1943.
The modern picture appears to be a restored E or K, not an M as there is no cooling grill forward of the exhausts and not an N for the older style canopy as well as the missing cooling grill.
The rendering is done as a P-40N/Kittyhawk IV
This website has conflicting information from the previous one
http://www.uswarplanes.net/p40.html (http://www.uswarplanes.net/p40.html)
but the descriptions of the various models is consistent among the various sources I looked at.
I was unable to find any unit information that you were looking for however. Good luck.

The first site you mention is exactly where i found them. Just wish there was more info on the individual pics. Quite lacking in that area IMHO. Thanks.

Nice info and thanks for the link to that site! Will save that as a fav.

Well, now you have your squadron info.
The P-40N-1-CU did have the old style canopy, although it also only had 4 50's. I can readily see the squadron thinking "Hey there used to be 6 50's, I want my other 2 guns back!" and putting them back in. Since you have photographic evidence of an N-1 with 6 guns, I don't think you will have any trouble getting it accepted. The slight change in length is the only other significant visible difference from the E model, and I doubt that would be much of an issue. I remember somebody doing a nice P-40E skin with white stripes on it that was a later model, maybe they can add some insight as far as acceptability. I believe that you should be good to go. :aok

One last issue I am having. Do you think this a combat livery or post war? I was able to find some liveries of Mustangs from 45 that had very similar liveries for those squadrons. Just wanting to cover all the bases before I get to a point where I may wish I hadn't wasted my time.

Hard to say unless you can find specific time frames in relation to the paint job or lack of. The RAAF metal pony's would all be post war as these planes were built in Australia & those planes did not see combat. The plane I posted is for a fact it's finish in the later part of it's combat life. Although I think you would be safe with the plane you have posted. RAAF stripped paint off of a lot of planes to see how much weight could be saved & how much it improved performance. Not many country's did this with actual combat aircraft the RAAF did it with spits,beauforts,beaufighters,mossies,c47's just to name a few.

P-40N

Quite a bit different but the N model would be another great addition to the game.

Well, the P-40 pic I had found will not be skinned. It is an Operational Training Unit bird and therefore did not see combat. Did find something else in my research though, that I will skin. Info is attached.
It will be a P-40 from RCAF 111 Squadron based in the Aleutian islands and in the colors of Squadron Leader Boomer. He was the only RCAF pilot to down an enemy aircraft in combat over North American soil when he destroyed a Japanese "Rufe".

A Canadian skin is a good choice I don't think we have one of them in the game. :aok

Eh?..........

Would that be a Hoserhawk?

LOL!!!
It probably would be if the MacKenzie brothers were flying it. :D
