Title: Floatplane anyone?

This would be interesting addition. Non-float version would be easy to produce too.

Kids today! Why can't they fetishize Fascist military hardware like normal people?

Ladysmith wants you forthwith to come to her relief
Burn your briefs you leave for France tonight
Carefully cut the straps of the booby-traps and set the captives free
But don't shoot 'til you see her big blue eyes

Question:  What seaplane is the easiest to model, given the current plane set?

HUH?! Did such a plane really exist?

I do know there were a few Spitfires with floats.   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

And some real floatplanes: "Rex"(N1K1 Kyofu, 89 made) and "Rufe"(A6M2-N, 327 made) might be nice too.

The Spitfire floatplanes are easiest. Just add floats to the V or IX.

The N1K1 has a different engine, fuselage, wings, guns to the N1K2-J - the A6M2-N also has different wings, engine, guns to the A6M5b...

I second Zigrat, that is a good model!

Perhaps HTC could let us fly float planes from the P bases or Battleships {are we getting battleships?} for scouting.

The Japanese used floats a lot and the Navy used the OS2 Kingfisher from island bases and BBs.

Of course we would all have to send Hitech a jug of water softener.

Our cruiser has catapult rails.

Karnak hit it on the head, the cruiser has catapult rails, in fact most cruisers had aircraft on them they were the fleet scouts after all  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

The Italian Royal Navy used the Re2000/2002 for a cat launch. At least it could fight if it had to.
Recovery was to a land base, so make sure that you need to launch :-)

(virtual)Reality check!

1. The carrier, which is always sailing with the cruiser, has a flight deck. There is simply no point to putting a plane on the cruiser.

2. There is really no point to having long range scout/spotter types or seaplanes in AH; since the terrain is so small the fighters can do the same jobs, but better.

Disclaimer: Of course, that could all change in future versions.

I think it would be cool to have kingfishers on the cruisers and battleships to spot for them.  I've read a post where one guy was firing the main battery and another guy was spotting where those rounds were landing and adjusted them accordingly.  they used kingfishers for recon didnt they?

YES PLEASE!

All of the above plus Mavis, Emily,PBY, Sunderlund, etc!

For starters float planes could be enabled from ports for port defense & recon.

As a CM the more planes I have to work with the more varied and interesting events we can come up with. (If I had my way HTC would have 50 top rate artists cranking out planes for a year!)   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Port Defense! outstanding Idea, also their was mention of the addation of a tender for sea planes, however with the catapult so prominently displayed on the cruiser i am thinking they were thinking ahead.....

There are several features that were mentioned, but we don't yet have.

If you ask me, another version of the game will change a few things around.  We probably will see two types of fleets.  The regular CV group we have now, but with no PT boats available from them, and maybe no Cruiser either.

A second type of fleet made up of one or more Cruisers (or a battleship?), a PT boat tender, cargo ships (and LVTs).  This obviously would be for invasions.

CV groups stay back, while the assault fleets go close to shore to put out PT boats, shell targets, and land troops.

Hans.
