Alright kept experiencing strange crashes all night long. Would try to up from a base and would launch to field and then wham blow up. I thought it was a bug. Well until I took a GV up trying to help stop the Knight advance in the south against us Rooks.
While in the GV I noticed strange white dots buzzing about the base at high speed and thought to myself. The sheep are moving!?! Was funny until they opened up with guns.
Even then it was sort of funny seeing sheep buzz around the base. But then when I watched a sheep camp out at the end of a runway and blow up pilots trying to take off .. well I sort of put two and two together and no longer think my mysterious deaths on takeoff were a bug.
It is a funny CON prank but it definitely got abused tonight. It would have been a lot funnier to some of us who did not go to the CON if you at the very least did not make them stealth ninja sheep and had them actually have CONs that read sheep when we got close to them.
As it is I watched several of these stealth sheep camp out on runways and shoot down people trying to up and suspect that is what also happened to me multiple times tonight before I caught on.
Right now I rather irritated over this but will probably be over it by tomorrow and tell other people about the great Ninja Sheep attacks of October 2001.

For crying out loud buy a sense of humor. Or better yet get a mossie and go hunt the little buggers. Great fun, I got 19 on my last sortie. Make sure you lead em a lot cause they move like hell. :)

lol - now i can die. :D
-
Sharky I do have a sense humor but when the CON stunt is abused I think I have the right to get a little irritated over it.
Basically had a sheep camp out on the end of a runway and blast anyone taking off. Couldn't figure out what was going on since no CONs on enemy sheep and dar bar clear. I thought it was the earlier bug that kept crashing my plane when I tried to take off after I got shot up and crashed into the ground.
To find out that ninja sheep had invaded our base and then settled down to vulch .. well I'll probably find this funny tomorrow but I don't find it very funny at the moment. Especially since I think I lost a me262 to one of the little buggers (don't want the perk points back but first time I try the plane and to lose it like this .. well not happy but will be fine by tomorrow).
As I said it would have been a lot funnier and not have irritated me at all if the damn things weren't stealthy and showed up with a SHEEP con or something.

I agree, this sheep bs got *WAY* too abused tonight.

hey the sheep were freakin funny you problobly will never see that agine!!

True and I will be telling the rest of my squadies about the sheep invasion and I know it will be apart of the AH history and mythology which will be told over and over again at future cons. So by tomorrow I will be over my irritation at how some people abused the Ninja sheep and really took advantage of the situation.

GhstDncr,
It wasn't abused. That's what the event was. Get on the field and make people run the gauntlet.
-
Oh my lord.....can we please get back to whinin' about Niki's or something. It was a con mission...if you dont like it then come to the con next year and join in the fun.
-
Couldn't figure out what was going on since no CONs on enemy sheepand dar bar clear.
Blahahaha! STOP IT! STOP IT!
-
I am here at the con and I just want to assure you that nobody here abused the sheep. If we had, the ASPCA would have come down hard on us. Man, you should ahve seent he stuff they made us sign just because we had 50's on them.
Ghstdncr, do yourself a favor and get a clue. This happens at every con, and like it has been said before, if you don't like it, go to the con next year.
Man, I can't believe... never mind, I actually do believe people would whine about this.

-
anybody got a screen shot if these sheep? i wanna see one
-
Mathman, Karnak, and Creamo,
Fine, you consider this dweeb whine and yes, I know that strange things happen on CONs .. they always did at the AW CONs .. basically put the above down to not whine but venting on the spur of the moment. Didn't realize CON was going on, knew it was soon, but since I was not going didn't keep track of the exact weekend. Also at first thought it was a strange bug that was randomly crashin myself and other I was flying with on going to the launch pad. So basically when I figured it out that it was the sheep and they were shagging me for once ;) I lost my cool and vented here about it.
Now I have one more question .. when I am going to see the sheep listed on the stats page of the website?
Would be cool to see how many sheep shot me down and how many I shot down once I got a clue.

I talked to Ronni about sheep stats...
Not going to happen, not a priority.
Personally I have 35 unacountable GV kills and 28 deaths... I assume those are my sheep K/D.
Not sure if I will be able to make next years con... But I will certainly make sure that I log on and try to fight the Evil Cons.
I haven't laughed so hard since...
Well at least a few hours ago... the con was a blast!

*Hang head in shame* I was whining last night to GhstDncr last night since he's my CO. I was going to leave a nasty post on here too about a bug. I didn't know about the sheep because Ghost found out after I left in frustration.
I think the reason Ghost was so upset and I was just crying like a baby on RW. That I think is the major reason Ghost left this post because his squaddies weren't happy. The only reason I didn't leave a post is because I lost my isp last night.
Now after I received a email from Ghost (Who thought it was funnier then hell). I literally almost wet my pants from laughing so hard. Now as Ghost said this will go down is AH history as the best Sim prank ever! Kudo's to the guys at the CON.
I'm still laughing. Please don't consider Ghost a whiner because I know him personally and trust me he's laughing about it now. He also feels two inches high. Please don't let this reflect on the Nightmares guys. We didn't know. But now that we do "YOU GUYS KILL ME....LITERALLY :D
Ghost and I already said that if we would have been at the CON we would have definately been in on that action <S>.
Now I just have to talk to Ghost about us going there next year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love you guys and have fun at the CON!!!!
I'm so jealous.
-
Anyone loose a 262 that way?
:D
-
Yes I did. Oh well, like I said if I would have been there those Knight and Bishop 262's would have been my prime target =). Those damn buff hunters anyway..hehe.
-
Last year was the giant pizza guys, wasn't it?
-
LOL Armed sheep, who'd of thunk it. :)
-
It was ok for a few minutes, then it got annoying...so I logged off and played some Operation Flashpoint.
-
I agree, this sheep got *WAY* too abused tonight.
This is why my wife won't let me go to the con.

These sheep ruined a good nights flying, i wonder if HTC wil re-imburse us?
Are they also going to say that no-ones score is valid this tour due to this? Will they reset the scores?
-
hahahaha. The furry little cudly creatures diddlyed up your heavily armed, steel airplanes didnt they? LOL wish I was there to see it. Honestly sounds funny. Were these sheep controlled by someone or computer?
-
Will Guinness ever recover?
Will the Tour ever be the same?
Has a more horrid cycle of events unfolded in the world than this plague of “Enemy Sheep” and their malicious intent of the HTC staff?
Will HTC have to write a check to every subscriber like a scene out of "The Jerk"?

OH My COD was the Sheep fun :D :D :D
<--- Commando Ninja Sheep Pilet Extraordinaire
You should have seen it almost 40 sheep in formation zipping along the ground at 90mph all armed with twin .50 cal's of death.
Stalking pilots on the runways, blowing them outta the sky and then hidding in herds of "domestic" sheep.
And the Sheep to Sheep duels were really hilarious.
I think me and my two squaddies got some screenshots, we'll post em later.
Coogles, it was a special fun event from the Convention where the attendee's get together for a one wacky mission thats different each year.
*SALUTE to HTC for the Killer Commando Sheep !! **
My Gawd its been 24 hours and I'm still laughing my bellybutton off.
-
Is there any way to test "fly" the sheep offline for those of us who missed the con?
(I remember pizza guys in 1.03p3 were .plane 33.)
-
I didn't care for the sheep thing either. It wasn't what I pay for in this game. The part that was bad about it was NOT that the sheep were available for play but that some players took the oportunity to park on a runway and vulch with virtually no chance of being detected or dealt with. When I learned about them I was killed 2 times just as I spawned on the runway. You couldn't get a GV and deal with them as the VH was down almost constantly at 49. The idea got old REAL fast.
On the other hand, once it was possible to actually take off it was a blast. I had strings of 5 and 7 kills once I saw how vulnerable they were to bombs and rockets.
The abuse was only by the players who decided to vulch on the field. No dar bar, no icon and hardly fair for those of us who had no oportunity to play the same game.
Now please save your infantile comments about going to the con. If I could afford such a thing I'd be there. I have been out of work since just before Sept. 11th. There is no plane maintenance business going on at my home field. Like most other aviation business's the AI I work for has all but folded up.
I went to an AW con and had a great time. Yes there was an "evil mission" where the WWI planes were allowed in the WW2 arena and had a great time killing other players in their "modern iron". The WWI planes guns were already "ramped up" in killing power and the only thing that could kill the bipes was a buff with their ramped gun up turrets. At least the WWI planes had an icon, dar and you could easily avoid them by flying at normal speed.
The evil mission can be a great fun event as long as you don't push it too far. This year went beyond the fun limit with the field vulching.

Heh.
It aint a party unless something gets broken.
And it aint an Evil Con Mish unless someone squeakes about it.
Happens every year.
Consider this year's a success. :)

Hey If these sheep are gonna be a long term 'feature' maybe we should not only have a 'Dar Bar' buy also a 'Baa Bar' :D
Only kiddin! I do seem to remember these FMD infested furballs somewhere back in 1.03 or 1.04, I think. The little beggars would molest you on the runway. Wasn't so much the dying that was the problem, just the friggin nits enjoyed the sheep more than the flying ;)

Well, whats a sheep supposed to do? Which lends to an idea for next year...killer flying sheep :D
-
Thx HTC i had nightmares about a army of sheep storming my home. :)
hehe
Seriously though im sure it was fun being on the "sheep side" of the situation, or even looking at it from 10k up but if you was unlucky enough to not be in the air at the time it wasnt funny, kinda sucked to see people loose perks and such. One of us lost 200 perks before taking off and only having 400, thats a hell of a lot.
If everyone had known that you CON dorks were having your fun with us we wouldnt have acted like we did, everyone thought it was a bug. Hell i tried to take off from 4 different bases and died instantly apon spawn at everyone, i think this was happening with lot of people that night.
Although it was great fun flying low trying to land tracking shots with 6x50's on those fast small little buggers, dont think i killed a single on of them :D
-
If this game was 'free' i would have no argument. I sure as hell do NOT pay monthly to see this kind of thing happening. Just because we werent at the con, were the ones getting shot at, laughed at. We pay the same as everyone else per month, why do others get 'special vehicles' while we still use the same planeset? Because they happen to live in the same country as the con is being held?
HTC, you really shouldnt treat your customers like dirt, its not good business practice.
-
Geez...the whole point of the sheep was to slip in undetected and force you guys taking off to "run the gauntlet" so to speak. Its just unfortunate that Skurj happened to be over our initial spawn point and got like 25 kills almost instantly when we started smacking into trees at 90 mph. Had we been able to reach our initial objective undiscovered, who knows how loud the whines would have been.....
I feel really sorry for you individuals out there who cant sit back and look at this whole situation and laugh about it. It was a fediddlein' con night mission for pete's sake.
Lighten up, Francis....

guiness,
it was a joke that lasted for 2 hours. funny thing that the arena was packed for that time so i figure a lot of people enjoyed it. if you didn't, you could have just logged. or taken off from an airfield away from the front and came and killed us.
oh, and we paid an extra $140 to get the sheep. :D
heh, just remember all that it's a GAME and not real life. and the sheep fightin back was one hell of a good con mission. :)
-
If you fly on Saturday night during the CON, expect to see the unexpected :p
Its funny that just a few guys get all upset about it, while there were 40-50 guys all up strafing, bombing, or grinding us poor sheep into the turf with their treads, and THEY were having a hell of a good time.
And please. Within 30 seconds of the time the first sheep spawned (long before we were in position to vulch any fields) someone squealed on Channel 1 about the secret, so when we arrived there were about 25+ planes in the air looking for us, and from then on there was constant "kiilllllerrrr sheeeep jokes on channel 1" or "baaaahhhh sixxxx!!!!"(from both CON guys and guys that were killing us) that should have given people a little idea that something out of the ordinary was going on.
Light up, remember its just a game, and smile :)
PS: Bloom I don't think so :( it has to be enabled on the server side, and even offline our FE doesnt' have the proper commands to turn it on.

Okay guys, I know I started this thread by venting on this issue moments after I figured out it was not a bug that was crashing me every time I tried to take off from a front line field and I apologize for that but enough already. It has been said it was a CON and CONs have a long history going all the way back to the Air Warrior CONs in the mid 1990s of having strange and bizarre stuff go on and yes, I lost a me262 to a sheep on the runway and yes I am clueless dweeb that took over an hour to figure out that it was sheep killing me and that it was a CON night and yes, I lost my composure and posted here. For all of this and especially starting this thread call me king dweeb.
But now with several days hindsight it was FUNNY I have already relayed the story on how a sheep shagged me to several co-workers and its just a game. Even if it ruined somebody else's or your fun for a night, by continuing to beat this dead horse that I brought up, it is just prolonging wrecking/diminishing your fun in AH. Believe me in a week you won't even care except to tell the story of the great Ninja Sheep invasion of 2001.
----
Now next year I am going to the con and I would love to see the Rook Cows versus the Knight Sheep war of 2002. Maybe the Bishops could be pigs?

there was also a nasty bug at the same time the sheep were in the arena
you'd spawn and immediately be killed if your loadout read 'invalid weaponset' i had to keep switchin between diff planes and loadouts before i could get my 109g10 up with 30mm
that might have been the bug you thought you 262 died to, because i remember you saying you lost it before ht enabled the sheep
-
Thanks Moose for pointing this out .. I and Aamon originally thought this was a bug and even logged out and rebooted our machines to try to clear it out and make sure it wasn't us. As I said when I then lost a P51 to a strange white dot behind me when taking off and then saw a Ninja sheep buzz past my GV and scrafe a F4U taking off .. well I jumped to conclusions, the wrong one it seems, and the worse side of human nature took over.
I know I shouldn't care about perk points and I usually don't (just use them to fly the F4U-1C every now and then) but I we had just lost 3 buffs to a me262 that I am Fdutchmn were escorting in P51s and so I thought to myself ... only way to hunt down a jet is to fly a jet! So I decided to try the me262 for the first time. When I died on runway with nobody around .. well just a depressed feeling to throw away the perk points and not have the fun of getting shot down.
When then I thought it was the sheep that did it .. well as I said I lost my cool and posted here instead of just sucking it up.
Next year at the CON I will be there and volunteer to be a anti-sheep soldier (ASS). ;)

As I posted in another thread I laughed so much I had tears in my eyes. I have a picture of one of my squad mates being blown in half taking off by a sheep with the .50 coming out of his mouth. I could not have thought up such a good prank. Myself I get killed so much it didn't come as a surprise to me but I had to just get in the tower and watch as I was laughing so much.
I know how mad some people got but to me it was just soooooo funnny.
-
I did log that night.
So you guys had a blast of a time that night cool, im chuffed, almost every online game has a convention (in the states 99.9% of the time) and I have and probably never will experience one as I live in the UK.
I can see sheep as being really funny, and good to drive etc, but why sit on a runway and kill hundreds of people taking off? Surely this is where it has gone beyond funny to down right trying to annoy people?
Well I got annoyed and logged, on a Satruday night, nice one guys, step on others to enjoy yourselves right.
If I could have even GOT to the convention I would have paid the ticket...but hello, there is a whole other side of this planet called Earth and it contains other countries not just the states. I think some forget this is an international game, thank god people like me outside of the states have to remind you of this!
Also can i remind the people who have never had a job that a weekend is just 2 days long, and 1/2 of my weekend was ruined.
Im not coming back to this thread incase u wanted to post, because after all it was just 1 night, and yes, im still pissed that it happened.

LOL! Sweet jebus, if half your weekend was ruined because people were playing a GAME differently-- you need to go outside more and get some real friends.

Nah, we remembered it was an international game. So did maik, ede, and mose when the came from germany to get to the con.
Stop being all high and mighty. A condescending nature won't gain you any respect here.

LOLOL this has been happening since the advent of CONS. I first observed this kind of "prank" during an old AW CON, since that time I make it a rule to NOT fly during CON weekend unless I am attending the CON. In this way I avoid all the drunken CON joke's LOL

Actually I have seen quite a few published airfare rates from London to major US Hubs (NY, DC, Dallas, Chicago and others) that are actually Cheaper than what it costs me to fly from a smaller airport in the US to Dallas.
If you look around ahead of time, you might be suprised.

Im NOT rich, and i cant afford to put THAT much of my money towards going to the CON because I HAVE a life. You really think the cost of 1 ticket is all the costs of going abroad? I cant even go on a holiday at any time of the year, let alone to the states for a game. There are things called accomodation, equipment, food, Ticket to the Con so, that 'cheap' ticket becomes a hell of a lot more expensive at the end. Something a 20 year old living on his own, running a car , with a normal pay job cannot afford.
Swulfe, i spend about 10 hours a week on average playing AH (including squad night and TOD) all the MORE reason for me to be annoyed at losing a night of playing? What you said was completely the opposite mate.
I have nothing to gain from posting here, as apparently this happens year after year and is cool with everyone, as i said before, im not returning to this thread, until next year ;)
-
the ticket is the easy part - my last round trip from san fran to paris was $800 per ticket. car, hotel and all that rich food was many times that though. :)
