Ok, as to not hijack the thread asking to disable kill messages in the DA (by the way... +10).
How about instead of limiting the planes to EW planes, just get rid of all the cannon-laden planes; or alter the ammo loadout to only have MG ammo (not even carry .50cal). I'm talking about having to shoot someone with .303 or 7mm ammo. Then, you actually have to fly well to kill someone.
You would see better fights that last longer when you can't HO someone with four 20mm cannons or six .50cal guns.

I don't think limiting planes is the answer.
I think limiting ord might help.
I think squadrons should be disabled.
I think anything that encourages those who hang there to continue to hang there, rather than learning to sink or swim in the mains should be turned off, or adjusted.
That particular pool is in need of chlorine.
However, that being said, its been my observation over the years that HTC tends to be very slow to make changes in that arena. Not sure why, doesn't seem to matter how many ask for it. Only when the problem starts costing them too much in terms of time spent sorting out the problems do they seem to be willing to make a change.
HT, pyro, skuzzy, please log into the DA as a shade for half an hour.
Listen to what your actually growing in there.

+1 on this post.
I spend a very limited amount of the in the DA, usually when the MA is quiet will I head into the Furball lake. Once I logged in there to see no one in a 50cal-only bird. I was in my 109F and I counted more Tempests F4U-4's, Spit16s, and LA7's than I've ever seen in one bundle. All of them were dropping down from 12K to pick guys coming off the runway.

F4U-4 only has .50cal....

Yeah, but it's a perk plane. Crap, just re-read what I posted. Sorry, forgot to add in exception of perkies.

Disagree, and here is why --
My squad and at least two others that I know of like to use the DA for training. Training in the TA is fine, but with no lethality it is just not the same. The MAs are a poor substitute for this kind of training because you will always be interrupted (by either friend or foe) and the accusations of spying/squad/shade killing are annoying and a hassle we'd just as soon avoid.
Just this past weekend we had some GV training, after which a couple squaddies had WW practice while a few others of us were practicing dive bombing/avoiding WW fire. With the changes you are suggesting, this would not have happened.
While this is not the true purpose of the DA, absent another place where we could do this, I would ask that the DA be left the way it is.

It IS a good place to get quick immersion into a new plane, or to practice gunnery (OR to get ho'd by several Tempest/F4u4's simultaneously)

I read Ghosth's post as wanting ordinance available from some fields, but not all. If you still had a place to practice what you want to practice, it would remove most of your objections, no?
It really doesn't matter if you can all join a squad in there to do what you're doing, anyway.

First part, absolutely. I read it as "remove ord", but you are right, that is not what he said.
And the second, I suppose is true. Just easier to do things on squad vox/text, although choosing a channel over 200 works just as well.
-
I don't think squads should be disabled because then you can't cross reference your squaddies with the .SR command through different arenas. Get rid of Kill Messages on lands though. I don't know who is worse, the guy landing the kills in the DA or the guy WTGing him in the DA... :huh
-
E25280 never intended that all ords should be removed from the whole map.
In the TA you won't find a perk plane available inside of 50 miles of A1 for very good reasons.
Same thing should be true in the DA. No perk planes, no ords anywhere close to furball lake.
And yes like the TA you should have 30k mountains to keep whats outside of that area outside.

I started in the DA and it has its place even cherry picker lake . I don't know how to cure it but I would like to see you have to spend perks in the DA but not be able to earn them there . Cherry picker lake isolated and you have to spend perkies to get perked rides . Make all planes available . If you want that temp or f4u4 you would have to go to mains to earn perks . Griefers are an even bigger problem . Try going in there to spar with a buddy(s) when its busy watch certain morons try to jump into fight . Disregard the rules you agree on . Most are very low skill who want to come in and ho and pick and do all the crap that annoys people . The sad thing is they would be welcome and learn a lot if they weren't being complete a**holes . I wouldn't trade my times with Vudak Scotch Batfink and many others for the world . I would like to see people like killerg be forced to accept at least a minimal code of conduct . However they know that they can do as they please and face no consequences at all . Unbalanced sides are another problem . I wonder if an eny system there would work as well ? Tonight I upped a 38L trying to work on my new pedals . At one point I had 7 enemy against me . Things balanced somewhat when 1 more guy on my side showed up . I wonder how long people would fly numbers like that if they had to fly spit I instead of a XVI ? a P-40b instead of a pony ? Some of you guys in charge really need to spend some time in there as a shade . Hitech you started this game because you loved WWII flight sims ,but I don't think you would love what the DA is at all . I have only been around a short time but I have seen the downward slide of a place I love .

now the intentions of the OP are good,
However this can be solved by bringing back H2H for subscribers only, which has been wished for and hopefully Htc will come good on it.

I've never been one to complain about what plane a person's flying. I was against ENY restrictions, even though when ENY was put into effect, I was on the outnumbered country. I'm usually the guy defending Spit XVI and La-7 pilots in threads, and am all for keeing those planes perk-free. I'm also perfectly fine with keeping perk planes available free of charge in the furball area.
Yes, it gets bland fighting Tempests and Spit16's, and C-Hogs all day (really not seeing too many -4's comparatively), but it is also nice having a place where you can see what a -4 can really do. I've been known to up one and try to push her to the edge in there, and would like to continue having that opportunity. Then again, I doubt very highly any of you who like a good fight would complain if you ran into me in one.
Basically, furball lake is what it is: A kiddie pool. I don't really know that there's anything HTC could do besides either shut it down, or write it off as a forgotten corner. I think getting too involved in that spot might cause them too many headaches.
I'd be ok with that, if it weren't for the fact that the DA is my favorite arena. I don't want to see it forgotten. Still, I don't want to see other people lose their concept of fun in there, so everything has to be balanced.
What I would really like, would be just a few tools at my disposal to increase my fun in there:
1. I'd like to be able to have some way to get a group of people together on the same side, and shoot each other down, either with a killshooter-off option for squads, private duel mode, or something of that nature.
2. I'd like to be able to have some way of protecting my quality time. Whether that be when I'm working with someone who wants to learn, or in a group just messing around. If someone is being disruptive, I should be able to do something about it.
Maybe have a regionalized, sector-by-sector, CM status? There could be certain sectors (aka semi-private fields, not furball lake) where you could "rent" CM status. You would only have power over the two fields in that sector, and could only be able to ".ef" someone while they're in that sector, or disable them from taking off in that sector.
I'm just throwing ideas out. The bottom line is I'd be very happy if I had easier ways to tweak other areas of the DA into something I'd enjoy more, and I think this can be done without impeding on the fun of those who enjoy the current furball lake.

Vudak,
HTC mentioned they are thinking of ways bringing H2H back in form of player controlled arenas hosted on the server. If that ever happens, I think it would be exactly the thing you are looking for. Your room, your setup and most important: Your rules :)
-
The DA arena is just a canary in a coal mine with regard to the mind set of the player base. You'll see some players proactively trying to get better and some squads/groups using it for training/mini furballs as well as individual duels. I could care less what folks do at "furball lake", its the guys who interrupt or pick elsewhere that are a cause for concern. I just wish the SBD, A-20 etc were enabled at the fighter bases and FB lake....
-
Drives me crazy when my squad is practicing off in one of the actual dueling areas, and some guy rolls from the base and completely ignores our warnings that it's squad practice and to stay out.

I dont see why people want to shut down the DA or change it in anyway. I fly in the DA most of the time now. Reason: the MA bores me. Same as alot of the guys in the DA. True there are tards, dweebs, Hoers and the all mighty tempest guys, but in general, FB lake is fun. It is what it is. Theres several 1v1 fields to dual. And thats where I (and most people) look for 1v1s. And in the last couple of weeks theres been a noticeable change in lake. There are good fights to be had, not just picks and hos or boats n hoes for that matter. And most of the whining comes from people that arent normally in furball lake. If you dont like FB lake, dont go there, I dont like the MA so I dont go there much. My opinion the MA where the problem is with gameplay and all around shenanigans, fix that. I dont see why disabling kill messages helps anything but some of the "elitist" egos. I agree with ords needing disabled. Or atleast somewhat to keep the bombers from getting to other fields. But otherwise, its fine the way it is. We have fun, we do what we want, we dont effect other arenas, we dont get perks, or rank ( for all you guys that dont care about score, but are obsessed with others score). When I want to have fun I go to the DA, When I want realism I have FSO. I have very little reason to go the MA, same ol same ol.Try this, come over to FB lake, fly for a while, and stop whining. Geeze. Flame away boys, theres another opinion out there, get the rope.

Texas,
If you were at KoTH saturday night, you'd understand why I'd like to have an easier way to get a group of guys together on a private field and fight each other, without having to split into two different countries and slowly rotate who's on what country to ensure everyone fights everyone.
Grizz won the event in three rounds, and afterward AKDogg enabled all planes and just let us play for awhile. We basically used the old "check 6" method for calling a fight with one another. I got to fight pretty much everyone, and had a blast.
We used to be able to do that every night in the DA when killshooter was off. To an extent, we still can, but again, it's nowhere near as simple, as everyone would have to switch teams at least once, and keep track of who's on what team, etc. It's just more complicated than it used to be or needs to be. Especially considering the changes don't actually prevent griefers from showing up at private fights now, either.
Again though, I have no problem with furball lake as it currently stands and don't want to disrupt YOUR idea of fun... I just want more options to enable me to have MINE.
Hopefully, the subscriber-based H2H rooms Lusche mentioned will work for me in that respect, but there's many things to be seen in that regard, and I'll hold my comments until the first draft is up and running.

You may not be one to cause trouble, but its the few that do that are going to get everyones fun spoiled. This has the same ear marks of the H2H problem. Most people just trying to use it for what its meant to be used as and a few others going out of their way to interfere. If those "few" are not controlled, the fun will disappear for everyone.
-
well we try to kill those few first. and often. As for the private arenas like the H2H used to be, Im all for that, that would be great. I never did the H2H and honestly have only been goin to the DA for a couple of months. i started AH in 2004. Id take my squad to H2H in a heartbeat. Our squad in the DA is the same as in the MA and FSO. Once we get the plane assignments in FSO we go to a separate field and ring em out. Havent had a prob with interferance yet, but Im sure it will happen. i hate ruiners, and they are in very arena, best to shoot em down, call em out, deal with them. New guys for the most part get it and want to fit in, most Squeakers notsomuch.
:salute

Well see here, it truly depends on the person and plane landing the kills. If he/she/it landed the kills in a N1k, 4-hog/C-hog, Temp, SPixteen, Frank, or 190 A8, you can bet that they didn't earn their kills.
-
so, you're implying that in the DA, you ONLY duel? And move the Furballing Area to it's own Arena?
-
Most of the people who are a pain in the backside in the DA need lots of guns to even stand a chance of killing you. 90% of the chogs and tempests i see cant shoot to save their life...which is ironic because thats exactly what they need to do in order to live more than a few minutes out there. The better planes are the great equaliser that enables even the casual gamer to enjoy aceshigh, that is great..
..a little hijack from me. Its really annoys me that you cannot fly the A20 from any of the dueling fields. I love to fight snaphook my squaddie and its is a real PITA that we cannot fight in A20s at all. This situation came about due to idiots who had to go bombing in the DA. Griefers have cost us the ability to duel a plane we want to. What else are we going to limit for this impossible Dueling Arena Utopia?
The DA is perfect, it has opposing bases for people to fight 1 on 1 from and a furball arena to be a dweeb in.
The only problem is the limitations (again, what about no 262 fights?) thanks to the retarded actions of a few people.
-
I think removing kill messages would go a long way towards reforming furball lake.

guilty of flying a Chog and landing kills. But I earn them....most of them. Id rather be in the 1A but when theres Tempests all over the place, quick cannon kills make me tingle. Still not all that sure why it matters who lands what.
