I was flying my D-hog yesterday, from a CV to a base that was pretty quite but had the same 3-4 pilots upping, all obviously pretty green.
One guy kept upping 109's, and on every single merge he would go for the HO. He did this for 3 fights in a row, each fight I could see he was going for the HO, I would fake the return HO and at the last second juke as to make him give up position and allow me to get an instant angles advantage. I shot him down 3 times in a row fairly quickly (one or 2 moves after merge).
Rather than flaming him, I sent him polite PM's over text. I said something along the lines of "when you go for the HO, you are giving up angles right away". He didn't reply, so I figured he was just ignoring me.
The next sortie I see the 109 co alt and go for the merge. Low and behold this 109 flies at me but at about D2.0 start a mellow turn, obviously avoiding the HO, then a split S right before we merge to try to get on my 6. No way can this be the same guy I think, but sure enough after a few more moves I shoot him down and it is the same guy!
I send him another PM saying "see how that fight lasted longer", and offered some advice for him to try to gain an E advantage after the merge by using a climbing move.
Next I see his 109, we merge and he passes close without firing (understands mutual respect on the HO now?), and goes for a gentle immelman (exactly what I had been doing in our past fights). Now on our secondary merge (the first one we've had) we are on another HO at co E, and again he passes and tries to maneuver for angles. Holy crap I think to myself, I have an actual fight! This time our fight lasts a few minutes and goes to the deck, where I finally out turn him. I almost felt like giving him the kill to reward him, but I just couldn't do it so I put him out of his misery with a bunch of .50cals to the cockpit. :devil
Now here in just about 30 minutes this guy went from blindly HOing and then getting killed on every flight, to actually making a good first pass and offering a challenge. He never pm'd me back (maybe he didn't know how), but I could tell just by his flying and progression that he was having more fun. This has been one of my more fun moments in AH in recent memory. This guy went from being the typical HO dweeb that offered little or no challenge, to actually giving me a good fight and making me work hard. This is what AH is all about, progression, learning, and getting better at ACM.
<S> to the other pilot, if you are reading this I'm sure you know who you are. Great fights and keep it up, I can tell you will be an ACE soon! :aok

Yet another example as to why I think the AKs are class acts..... :salute AKHog

<S> Great stuff.
They are still out there. PM was a good move, based upon reception. I'll try transitioning to that, myself.

:salute
more of that can be done by all of us.
-
Good to hear! Most times when I offer advice to those in obvious need they blow it off.
-
Finally a story dealing with a controversial subject that was handled well. A private PM and no 200 trashtalk. Instead a more experienced pilot instructing another pilot in a respectful manner. Many folks both veteran and new could learn from this behavior.

Isn't it a shame that someone can't post a nice, positive thread without someone else bringing their petty, childish squabble to it?

Hello Hammer,
Yes it is. Of all the things that folks complain about that are supposedly ruining gameplay, being respectful was obviously a casualty a long time ago.
Have a great day,
Way

Nicely done! <S> to both pilots!

WTG Hog. I'm inspired and will try this same process next time I get Ho'd. (which will be next time I log on.)
-
Now thats what Im talking about !!! WTG AKHog ! and a very big <SALUTE> to the other pilot who was willing to try and learn a few things.
-
I find it's about a 30/70 split of those willing the receive such advice but it's always rewarding to see when some one does take it in to consideration.

Last night I killed a first-dayer a couple of times. There were 3 or 4 of us (a couple on each side - some new, some vets) having fun [clean] fights for a little while in EW. A couple left, and this one new guy switched sides to my side and politely asked if he could join my plane. I obliged and talked him through how to tune his vox to my channel so we could talk as he rode along.
We flew for a little while and he decided to tower out and up his own plane for more practice. We winged up and found an enemy to play with. I stayed high and talked him through some basics and after a three minute fight he had gotten his first kill. Man was he jazzed. Nice guy and should make a fine addition to the pilot base.

There was a player a couple weeks ago that whenever someone would get on his six, would just stick stir. I PM'd him and told him he'd be better off trying a maneuver rather than stick stirring. Also told him that stick stirring is only a relevant action when you have an ally on the bogey on your tail and you are trying to buy him time to kill the guy. Anyways, I ran into the player yesterday and he told me on range that he stopped doing that and it has actually helped him a lot and has learned more effective ways in dealing with the situation.

Excellent story Hog. :salute

big
on handling the situation-I see that this how these should be handled.Good job guys on trying to teach instead of slamming

umm I once gave a guy 5 numbers and about a month later I saw him. He won the lottery.
I out ran a boy scout so I could help the little old lady across the street.

That is very true for many...

Good stuff AK. I remembers a few years back PM'n Murdr and asking politely if I could join for a ride in his 38, he was gentlemanly enough to say yes. Just a few minutes with some of the better guys out there can help a new stick considerably.
Keep up the good work. The return is better players for us all.
-
This is good to hear , the AK's are good people and this is a fine example of decency to new players . I should try and be a little better to the new guys myself .
Nutte

Nice job AKHOG.

Thanks for the info Hog....you really helped me a lot with my 109 flying..you're just too good in that F4U....sorry i didn't reply to your PMs :salute

<S> To both of yous, good to see some guys going from HO to ACM. :salute

After two HO passes any plane/pilot deserves to be shot in the face (http://www.4shared.com/file/89366491/9af427c2/Chog_HO.html). Please forgive my uncharacteristic bad shooting I never fly the typhoon. :D

WTG Hog,
I feel like the new players are almost intimidated by the older players that can sometimes use harsh stuff on 200 but if they just politely ask for a quick training session they will give it on the spot. I sucked really bad until SunsFan went to the DA with me for a fun 1v1, he told me I was doing it wrong and should me some of the basics to AcM other stuff Ive picked up is just getting in fights with people better then me like Kermit, he pwns me but I learned alot from the video, some rookies dont know that sometimes you want your plane to go slower then the other, and that there are ways of making a plane like a K4 out turn a spit 16

I agree, most of the experts enjoy teaching the newbs just as much as shooting them down. In the end we all get better fights.
Personally my 'break through' was a long time after I started playing, too long in fact. After years of playing all it took AKNimitz was an hour in the DA and a few hours winging in the MA, and he transformed me from a complete hack to landing multiple kills while following the unwritten gentleman rules of ACM in AH... and all this was before I was even a member of his squad.
Now I wish to continue with that tradition of the original AK's, of helping people who are willing to listen, and generally promoting more 'classy' fights.

........ and generally promoting more 'classy' fights.
I will not fight while wearing my heels and dinner gown :furious

You handled that well.I woulda upped a friggin 110 and showed him what a ho is all about :),....Thats just me though ;)

I find that funny because my squaddies it 11-0 jousting 110s with a Spit 1 (he hasn't died to a HO from a 110 in a spit 1)

Well one thing I realized, you must show them by HOing they are giving their opponent an advantage, and you show them this by killing them repeatedly.
If they kill you just one time in the HO they likely won't listen to any amount of "advice" you give them. Likewise if you kill them in the HO, they will not learn the intended lesson.
