Title: Wildcat, Hurricane... stuff thats slow but lots of fun
Post by: Citabria on May 31, 2000, 10:09:00 PM
these were fun planes to fly in WB no matter the RPS or planeset.

survivable or not so in the hands of some... they couldn't run away but they had teeth and fought back with a vengance.

we just had 1 vvs plane 1 ijn plane and 1 LW plane.

possible to get these two legendary aircraft into the sim?

or maybe a good f6f3 hellcat with red outlined star insignias and the light blue sides... the one w/o the ground pounder gear weight and windows behind the cockpit armor  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

I guess im in the minority here. I find flying these slow aircraft have always been a lot more fun than the 600mph shoot and run away uber planes

I don't think you're in the minority, it's just that HTC seems to have made the business decision to use late war uber planes to get more people in the front door.  I'm sure we'll get the putt-putt planes eventually.

Don't know about the wildcat, but a late model HellCat would make an excellent addition to the arena.

It would fill a very similar position to the P-38. Good climb, Good speed, Good Turn, and pretty good armament. Definitely not the best in anything, but good in all categories.

And you can even live with the six view here in AH, unlike in other sims.

I expect to see this bird around the time the "Navy" makes its appearance in AH.

Someone bets with me for the first USN Divebomber modelled?

Quite sure it will be the SB2C Helldiver  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

Helldiver would be a good choice.

I think the F6F3 or F6F5 would be fantastic here! Bring it on!

...course I like absolutely anything, so I am an easy sell!  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

For what???

Never understood what do you see in F4F3 Wildcats, to be truth...but they played a major role in 1942/43...but FM2???? that was the "ugly duck" in Naval aviation in 1944!!!!.

...except the FM-2 was lighter and had a better engine. Until you have rolled a Wildcat around you can't appreciate what a nimble little fighter it really is.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Bring on the F6F-5. 6 x 50 cals, 6 rockets, 2 1000 lbs bombs, center line drop tank, and has armor that can surive a HO from a "C". I would love to have it.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Erm, anyone here ever looked at the performance stats of the F6F? 3000fpm/380mph is NOT "good" for a 1943 plane!

Juzz-

If that was all there was to the story, you would be right. The Hellcat was also fairly maneuverable (more so than the Mustang and Corsair), rugged, and could carry ordinance. I would much rather be in a slow F6F5 than in any F4U-1D.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

Well I still find in it a 4x12.7mm, under-the-average plane. And it was ugly  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) but well In fact I dont mind that when flying.

Hellcat is the same. non-impressive performance for a latewar fighter. Maybe it is more maneouverable than the F4U, yes...but lacks climbrate and speed.
For a carrier-borne fighter was quite good, tho...but still is under the standard, IMHO.
