I was thinking last night off my 1st impression of the game when I started playing in 2003. I had a numbers gameID and I upped a B-17 with 100% fuel. I climbed, climbed, climbed until I got to 20,000 ft. I finally found a small base to bomb and I made the greatest impact on my 1st bomb run ever.
I bombed the runway!!
I was told on channel 200 that it's the hangers I need to bomb and not the runway. :frown:
I said that I did not know that and that I was new to the game and they LOL'd on 200 and said welcome to the game. Needless to say the flight back was long and I lost 2 drones for turning too tight. :lol
I like to hear from some of you UBER sticks anything funny that happened to you as a N00b. Something for the newbies to look up to. Come on........a little laugh aint bad boys.

-I thought I was awsome with my Spit 9 k/d after only playing for a couple months. (No, I never HO'ed) Then I realized I was flying a spit 9.
-The first time I flew with my squaddies in the DA, (maybe three months into the game) they were toying with me ruthlessly. I came screaming down on MVJester in my Yak, all happy that I was about to bounce his low, slow P-40. I'm doing probably 450-500 (just a guess--don't really recall) and he chops throttle, pops flaps, and cranks back into a hard, steep climb. I try to follow, only to rip both wings clean off and instantly turn into a flying hot dog. :O
-One of my first sorties, I was cruising about in my 38, looking for a fight. I see an enemy right on the deck, turning about while being chased by 4 friendlies. I think "hmmm they can't seem to kill him, I'll go down and lend my services!" (makes me sick nowadays, lol) Anyway, I dive in to save my poorly aiming friends from wasting all their ammo on a stick stirring 190, and cut RIGHT through all of their lines of fire to drop in on his six. I hear two explosions, as killshooter drops 2 of my esteemed colleauges... :lol
Ahhh, to be a n00b again...

I actually kept a bit of a log when I first started playing (Aces High that is)... Here's a few choice selections:
June 4, 2004:
Also, gunnery is very difficult. Though I’ve managed to score a few kills on stationary targets such as ack, I can’t score more then a few glancing blows on a full sized bomber, much less a nimble fighter.
On the other hand, there is one thing I can do: dive bomb. Now, I’m not saying that I can hit anything yet, but at least I can drop the bomb. Once I figure out how to turn on a dive-bombing sight, I’ll do much better. At the very least, if I dive straight down from 10,000 feet in a Mustang, I have a decent shot of nailing a large hanger, and that will help my country out a bit.
June 9, 2004:
My accuracy has improved somewhat, although I’m still in the “spray and pray” mode. The most kills I can acquire are two in a mission. After that, I’m simply out of ammo. At least I can now kill two in a mission, and have landed a good amount of those missions. I have a feeling that when my accuracy improves to say, twenty-five percent -- :rofl :lol :rofl --, I’ll be able to kill many more. As it is, my accuracy is a horrid two-percent.
June 10, 2004:
On thing I’ve learned from AH is that if you’re going up against a mass of aircraft, you’d better be sure to stay near your own group of buddies. Once you get separated, or even if you are on the outskirts of the group, you’re in big, big trouble. I learned that one the hard way last night.
August 4, 2004:
Taking all these factors into account, I decided to take up a FW190-D9, as I figured it would at least give me a chance of outrunning some bad guys.
These are kind of an eye-opener

Not an uber stick here by any stretch but I do have a story to contribute. When I first started this game, I was recruited by the Wolfpack, Skywolf was our CO. They took me under their wing and tried to teach me the game.
We took off on an attack mission, F6Fs, max load out for a 1.5 sector flight to hit a Vbase.
Just inside the dar ring for the vbase, young T finds one of those 'out in the middle of nowhere, radar looking stations (my assignment was to hit the radar) I proceed to give it hell, bombs, rockets, 50 cals, bricks, rocks, everything, thinking I'm helping the squad get in unnoticed. At some point I hear 'someone needs to kill the radar' then Skywolf asks on squad 'T where are you' my reply was 'killing the dar but it won't go down, Ive hit it with everything and am bingo ammo but it won't go down!!!!! LOL. We were all new once guys, SERaider, thank you for starting this post, it's a fun one and I'm sure the stories will be good <S> Red dots.

Back in the Air Warrior days when the Relax Realism arenas were the most used, me and class mate logged to the Full Realism arenas... since we couldn't fight worth a damn on full realism, we went for a bombing run in an A-26. They were only 4 guys on the whole arena and immediately started to complain that the arena was for fighting only. Anyhow, with Spyhawk as my gunner, we made a bomb run on an uncapped field then RTB'ed in a hurry as all four of those guys upped and started to chase us...
All this while, I am beating my wings as fast as I can on the deck... and Spyhawk is tonting them over the open channel about being untouchable. I can't remember what was said, but I remember that right when he made the most outrageous comment I crashed on final... Logged after that, it was just too embarrasing. :o

Upped a Spitfire on my first sortie, and was vulched by a La-7 right away. Second sortie I did get up, but not yet understanding the icon colors yet, I killshot myself. :rofl
-
My first sortie, a couple of years ago (you would think I would be better by now :cry), I was going to try to dive bomb something. I got in the air, and there was this group of buildings right off the airfield that resembled a town. So I climbed up to about 3k, and proceed to bomb one of the buildings. A voice came onto my computer saying "Why are you bombing your own town?". Scared the hell outta me. I have since learned what towns to bomb, and that this game has vox.

I didn't know where the autopilot controls were. I'd get in the air in level flight and have to constantly keep trimming to fly straight. It took me a week or two before I figured out where the auto pilot controls were.
-
I didn't know what check six was. I kept hearing the (default) "CHECK SIX" over and over again. Every time it happened I would ask myself who is this guy and why does he keep following me around the map. It took about a week for me to learn it was not always the same guy but the result of someone pushing a button and an in game sound.
-
:rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl
Druski85, Latrobe, dunnrite; best ones so far. Keep it coming guys. :rock
-
I came from FA. I flew in H2H for awhile then came into the MA.
-
I simply flew around A1 for a bit wondering where everyone was :)
-
Took me some time to save up the 150+ perky points I need to get that 262,,,,, but when I did, I felt like I was the top dog with it, took off and climbed up high a couple of sectors out, played with the controls a bit thinking I should not have any problems shooting someone down with this thing.....
Get Near a huge furball of Red guys and decide I will come down on one of these unsuspecting victims of mine,,, picked one out and nose down on him and was leading him for the perfect shot, and at that moment he peels out the way and I gave the usual unresponsive jerk to the stick and realize I am going full throttle nose down for the deck, :lol with the much embarrassing reaction of trying to throttle back, pull up, and to level off of being no use,,,, I could just hear everyone saying, yep that must have been a noob that lawn darted that 262...... :rofl
Needless to say, I didnt waste my perkies next oppurtunity I had..... :lol

I have only been flying a year now, but my first mission went exactly as yours SEraider, except my drones made it home, though it was pure chance, I didn't have a clue they would explode at that point. The funniest thing happened just the other day though. There was a group attacking one of the ports. I decided I would fly up in between the port and the next airfield and intercept anyone going to defend it. On the way I pass a group of buffs going ashore to hit a city that was near. I am cruising around and no one is coming. Suddenly bar dar crosses from the airfield to the city sector, I am like, yeah someone is going after those buffs. I am cruising, day dreaming, scanning for an aircraft when BAM, ack right next to my canopy scares the crap out of me. I jumped 3 foot straight out of my chair. I think I had a mini heart attack on that one.

I didn't know how to read the map and kept upping from far off bases. I think it was my 3rd day before I finally see a low B-17 at about 5k, I'm at roughly 14k in a p38 and my adrenaline starts pumping. Mind you, this was back in the day of lone bombers with the lazer sight system. So I get all excited, set myself up on his very high 6 and start to dive on him. A few thousand feet later my I'm totally compressed and I wiz by the b17 at near mach speed and lawn dart into the ground. I see on the grey channel a big LOL@P38 pop up. I about had a heart attack at the ripe age of 22 I was so mad and shaky.

A friend and I were defending a VBase and a N00B upped a GV and was driving around aimlessly. I was talking to my friend on range to coordinate our efforts. After a couple of exchanges, it was apparent to me the N00B didn't know he was listening to real people - thought is was built-in AI "chatter" for immersion. So the two of us played it up with him and started including him in our chatter. He was totally blown away by this "adaptive AI chatter".

Mostly flew bombers the first week or two they were easier to keep level and in the air. After a couple of weeks i felt i could fly a fighter so i upped a spit16 took off toward the red icon and fired all my rounds right into the front of the plane coming toward me and to my suprise killed it. A minute or so went by "just enough time for my head to swell up after my first kill ever!" Then i hear over the radio on "why in the H#ll did you shoot me you Fu***ng HO!.
Well being new to the game and not knowing what a PM was and why this guy was calling me a HO, which were fighting words when I was younger, I started to to tell this guy just what i thought of him and how i was going to kick his butt and so on. This exchange went on for a couple of minutes quite nasty.
About 15 min later i was told about PM's and realized the guy i was telling off for the last ten minutes wasn't the guy I killed I was on range "F12" telling some guy on my side how i was going to kill him. :D

OK, this is my favorite so far. :aok
I had no idea what HO meant either for about 3 weeks. Every time someone complained "He HO'd me!" or "What a Friggin' HO!!" on VOX, I'd just scratch my head. I knew it was derogatory, but HO??? That just conjured up weird imagery. :D

I am still a Noob but have graduated a little.
My first week I think was firing 3k+ out at everything red. Of course I never hit a thing. Someone finally said... "dude... what are you shooting at?" I thought about his questions for a sec because I thought I was shooting at bad guys, then I asked what is the most effective range to start firing... They said D600 and less. I thought for sure they were kidding because I couldn't get over 5,000 feet of altitude much less pull up behind someone and fire... Then I realized this is not a video game...

5 yrs ago when I first was introduced to AH I uploaded the software and flew offline just to check out the planes, gv's, etc. I had never tried an on-line Sim or real net play before. During my 2 week trial I tried every plane possible without any thought to SA or what plane is better for what I was trying to accomplish. I flew goons without knowing what purpose they served or why have a plane with no guns. Once I realized that goons take bases, but still not knowing how, I dropped many troops over runways, towns that were not fully down, and even towns of bases that we had not even (everything full up) attacked. :o It was when I started joining missions that I figured out the role of a goon.
Good post started :aok

I remember upping a panzer at the TT v base and I kill shot myself on the same friendly ostwind 10 times :lol. I Understood that "green" above name meant friendly, but when I saw a guy with an orange name i though to myself "Oooo must be an enemy!...and hes not even trying to avoid me! :O" I shoot him and then I die
-
came over after H2H got sut down :furious had some bro's flying in a thunderegg mission grabed a goonie bus and drop supplies
-
Beta tour- first tour out there- log on to reserve my name :)
Up a P-51, and go prowling over the valleys, find a fight, and dive in, manage to get a couple kills, and one guy bails out.
For giggles I turn around and chute shoot him (is that dynamite in your pocket :O). He goes absolutely APE, and get a crew together to hunt me down.
-
I remember being very new my first time in the MA. I had spent the first month playing only in the TA trying to learn how to fly. Someone posted a mission while I was flying around asking people to join it. One thing I didn't learn in the TA was that channel one was open to all countries. The mission had launched by the time I landed (crashed), and I asked on Ch1 "is it to late to join the mission to A##". Needless to say those guys got killed and were pretty POed at me.
-
Got another one......
Single AR-234 after making by bomb run (missed everything), see a formation of 17's go in to shoot it down. Fire all cannons not knowing they are rear-cannons. Go underneath them, then up and straight and in the tower.....That quick!
:cry
-
I remember being involved in my very first base capture with everyone waiting for my c47, only for me to drop my troops over the field. :)
-
Saved up just enough points to fly a 262 thougt nobody could touch me in this thing so i fly up to about 20k and head to a rook base. About
half way there i see a lone 109 about 5k down so i dive down. He must have never saw me cause he didnt even break i shot him down with
ease. Now i really think i cant be touched i start to climb and open my map to look around at whats going on i look for a minute or so and i
bring it back to where iam on the map. Something catches my eye its a red dot and its right on my plane WTF. About that time i come
to a realization the 109 was bait! I look back tracers streak past may canopy and BOOM 130 perk points down the drain. :o
-
Finally got the perkies for my first 262. After fighting the thing into the air I go to a port that is under attack. I see several sets of b-26s at around 3-4k. One set is off by themselves do I figure they will be easy meat. I dive in (not chopping throttle), try to adjust for lead on the center bomber and proceed to dive straight through at well over 650 and make a nice little crater in the sand. The guy piloting the bombers sent me a PM saying "I have to give that one a 10". Needless to say I didn't up another 262 for close to a year.
-
i dropped troops on a field. As well as augered trying to strafe a jeep in a 38.
-
"I have to give that one a 10"
:rofl :rofl :rofl
-
I can remember being taken under the wing of Ghosth and Ozark, those 2 helped me a lot my first week,(2000, 2001?) and I think made me realise that this was more than a "game"
Steely
-
I upped my favorite plane, the P-40, and dove from like 20k, and augered. :rock
-
coming from AW RR, i had to learn to really, actually 'fly' the planes. one of my first sorties ended with my D pony falling out of a cloud bank in a flat spin. splat.
-
After playing offline for a few weeks, I started the 2 weeks, thinking I'd be hot stuff of course.......... First up, I see green planes and orange planes.......... Well guess what I did? Shoot all those enemy oranges, or at least tried to!!!! "Shoot the red planes idiot!"
Personally I think it would be better if all the random people arent clumped into 101. Let them talk on range only......
Not to mention, by default, radio 1 is the help channel........ So I'm rambling and rambling and rambling until somebody says...... "You know this isn't your country's channel? It's the help channel.... DO you need help? If not, STFU"
-
It took me about a month of playing before i realized the "/"key was the radio, i would hit it on accident and relog uttering DANGIT i cant get rid of it. I was always wondering how people were typing, and i had stubled across it prolly 10 times<<<<<whatta noob

On one of my 1st sorties in the MA I was just hanging out not wanting to get in the way (had NO idea of what I was doing or what anyone else was doing),
I hear over range "Stickpig get the typhie!"
All I can remember is thinking to myself..."What the hell is a typhie"? "
Those were the days

Just thought of another one....1st flight in a Hurricane MK1..... keep thinking there was something wrong with my headset everytime the engine sound quit.

1rst memory is strong.
I downloaded Warbirds 1,07 and spawned to an airfield under attack.
As I was trying to start my engine a nearby con augered rewarding me with a kill (still engine off) 3 seconds into the game.
In the text buffer, country channel was filled with "wtg save"
Since i was new to online gaming I made the big misstake of writing " what is 'wtg' ? "
the screeen now filled with "LOL"
"what is 'LOL' "
well you get the picture :rofl
-
Upped a p- 51......seen a guy in ju88's sorta trapped in a valley...I drop in,..elimanate him and get the message "you have shot down "pawz".....That was my 1st kill, and ive never let him forget it. :rock
-
Can't remember the name of the squad but it was Sysprobe's , one of the guys upped just in front of me so i flew along with him , a new guy ups catches up with us and promptly starts shooting at us , my suaddie gets on channel and eggs the new guy on , it turned into a dog fight and everyone was just hanging around watching this new guy kill himself he did it about 4 times , i had to logg off i was laughing so hard . :)
Got into a fight with Shane , managed to take out his engine so he ditched , then spent the next few minutes ranting and raving about how he wasnt going to get out so i wouldnt get the kill, i flew off someone else shot at him as he sat in the water i still got the kill.:)
Most of all i remember not having a bloody clue what to do , hehe dont think much has changed ;)

Kept trying to capture factories with a C-47 at that time had a low end PC & could not see or hear train as it had no video card. Was very puzzled as to what was killing my goon.

Asked which key to use for a secondary weapon on country. Of course the first few responses were Alt F4. That was a quick lesson.
