Title: Veterans
Post by: Sandman on February 27, 2009, 12:33:18 AM
A friend of mine that I served with told me about this site, and it's been really interesting trying to find old shipmates.

http://togetherweserved.com/

There is a separate "site" for each service.

Looks like they're working on the site for the Coast Guard. You can pre-register at:

I listened to a guy who said the coast guard wasn't a real arm of the service.  I pointed out their role in history and now, especially as an arm of law enforcement, but it was washed away and dismissed. :(  Once this administration gets through with our military, it may go from the smallest to the largest arm of the military.

FYI it IS considered an arm of the military!

I think some of the confusion comes from the CG being a part of the Treasury and Transportation departments and not the department of Defense. Now that they are under Homeland Security, I imagine their image will change a bit.

Good find Sandy.

Sorry that guy was so misinformed. Ask him why my Dad was putting Marines ashore in an LCVP at Iwo Jima.

That's Easy! Because he didn't have the Stones to join the Corps!

I'm kidding man... I just know too many Marines I guess.
