Title: Did I HO ?
Post by: DCCBOSS on February 28, 2009, 09:59:51 AM
I was flying La7 trying to get to where the fight was, I see a fellow squadmate about 3.5k in front of me, I head towards him, I then hear on vox a 262 just tried a run on him as he said that I see the 262, now I am already flying to aid my squadmate and within a few seconds the 262 is heading straight at me about 1000 out so I fired, he had turned into my flight path and continued that track, of course he went down and the next thing on 200 was nice HO dweeb.  My responce was THANK YOU. So did I take the wrong action or not if you had a 262 closing on you head on that he had made possible by his maneuver would you think he going to HO you or not I did and took the first shot.

Lets see.....

You are flying along, joining a squad mate.  Someone attacks that squad mate and then turns towards you, coming straight at you while you stay on that same course.

And they squeak about YOU HOing? Doesn't matter who "fired first", they are the ones that setup the situation :rofl

He took the chance, he knew the risks, it's his fault he died. Yes, it sounds like a HO (Head On), but it's his fault he died.

The 262 is the height of sissy flyin and DESERVES to be ho'd. Two thumbs up.   :aok  :aok

besides all of that the only reason a ho is looked down on is it wasnt allowed in the other game before aces high, in real life if you look at the combat films they shot head on every time the opportunity presented it self  SO SALUTE FOR THE KILL

262 is the ultimate HO target. Its ALWAYS OK to HO a 262. The pilot in question is an obvious noob if hes complaining about getting HO'd while in a jet. Whenever i fly that thing, i avoid head to head passes like the plague because i fully expect to get a face full.

I threw my mother in law in front of a 262 once. The driver tried to call me out, claiming that I was HO'ing again........ How did he know my mother in law? Wierd!?

First off. HOs are looked down upon because they take no skill. You dont have to work for angles. You dont have to be good. A pilot who always looks for a HO is a dead pilot. Whenever I see guns blaring on the first pass, 99 times out of 100 i know its a dweeb who will be an easy kill. Its easy to avoid unless greatly outnumbered, and slow.
Like I said in my previous post, its OK to HO 262s in my book. Its ok because the 262 is an impossible plane to shoot down otherwise unless they are caught slow, and its just hilarious when it happens.

As for the real life HO. First off, If i were a real pilot, the last thing i would do is purposely give my enemy an easy guns solution. That's tantamount to suicide. Sure, it happened, but no way would any sane person purposely use that as a tactic to kill unless the enemy didn't have a firing solution, or they were taken by surprise.

Im so sick of the "they did it in real life" excuse. This is a game of skill, NOT real life. You only show how unskilled you are if you are taking a HO every chance you get. I admit I take a HO shot every once in a while if im forced to, but using it as an actual tactic is very lame and will not make you a better player.

Ultimately it is your $15/month. Do what you want. You will rarely see me complain about getting HO'd because I AVOID it. That doesn't mean i don't think its gamey and dweeby.

Yes you HO'd.

But like other people have said, HO'ing 262's is perfectly acceptable.

HOing a 262 is typically the only/best shot you are going to get on the jet.  I don't see too many 262's practicing ACM, and why would they, they cost a fortune and make a 152 turn rate look like a Hurri2C.

HO the crap out of those things.  Unless you are several K above them in a fast plane, you are not going to be able to saddle them up and get a "respectable" kill.  He is going to obviously have the speed advantage so your only choices are a wild snap/deflection shot or a HO.

On something like that, shoot em in the face and be done with it. :aok

The HO is my number one tactic for 262's.

The way I see it if I'm fighting a 262 the last thing I can expect is a good, clean fight.  I'm just going to be endlessly dodging with very few if any shot opportunities, and he's not going to have much chance of hitting me.

I combat that by making HOing any 262 that comes near me my main priority.  I seldom actually hit them, but at least they generally get the message pretty quickly and go look for someone else, hehe.

I did feel a slight twinge of guilt last time I HO'ed a 262 though.  I shot at him (pretty sure I missed) and pulled up right before I hit him.  No problem on my end...  But as he went by I saw pieces fall off, and both of his engines were blowin' black smoke.  Then I see the message reporting that Scotch had collided with me.  No damage on my end, since I didn't collide on my end, hehe!

So he got the double whammy HO and Ram, lol!   I felt like I made up for it by not chasing him as he RTB'ed though, hehe!

You should have hunted him down and killed him, everybody knows Scotch is a timid dweeb :)

Whats Wrong with Hoing 262's its the easiest way to kill them.

Here is one of my latest 262 kills.
(i'm the guy in the 190 BTW)

I would HO a 262 anyday! Especially if they are the ones setting up the situation. Like that one ^

The way I see it, there are only 2 ways to shot down a 262 if the guy knows what he is doing and keeps it high and fast.  HO or snapshot (which is kinda hard to do when he is moving 500mph)

So WTG on your 262 kill DCCBOSS

Ho'ing says "I'm not very good at acm, I'm lazy, and I'm not going to try to improve myself...I'd rather play Russian roulette with a half-filled revolver"

It's a great way to get a kill or 2, but never more than that, and there's a whole other world of flying knowledge which one tosses out with the bath water when he points his plane at the oncoming dot and blasts away...that's what you don't get. It's akin to lazy European generals in the 1700's having thousands of young boys plow into each other head-on, until the piles of dead bodies impeded battle

I think most people that fly 262s are doing it for the coolness factor and are not smart doing it... This guy for instance got shot down twice in one hour and was back for more shortly thereafter:
