I up out of A127 in a P40E 50% and a DT. Autoclimb out and when I get to about 10K I see 2 enemy dots at about 15K. I level for speed and pretty soon I get their icons. Spit14 and a niki. So here they come. I slightly drop my nose to gain more speed and the niki is first one in cannons blazing. Spit split s and niki goes up and over as I do. Niki hoes again and again I avoid it and drop down on the spit14. Niki stays high thinking spit14 will make quick work of me. Spit goes up and over, I go up and over turning inside this guy everytime until I get on his 6 in a tight turn. I have my sight dead on him but he just a half a second more to get my lead and make the kill when all of the sudden here comes the niki to drop down from 10K and shoot me in the face :furious
I guess I can understand that the ole boy didn't want to lose his perk plane but damn man, these two weren't even squadies. The way I see it is the fight wouldn't have been fair if it was a 1vs1, much less a spit14 AND a Niki (that hoed on every merge).
Don't get me wrong, I expected to get shot down flying the P40 but it's the way they fought me that sucks.Where are peoples sense of fair play in this game? I see this kind of thing every day. 10 guys will drop from outerspace to kill a B5N or a Stuka. Everywhere I went in that P40 tonight I was swarmed by spit16s, LA7s,Nikis...... Not once did anyone backoff and give the poor little plane a fair chance at a kill.
I just had to get that off my chest. Now you may flame me for whining :(

well... Why Do they Go after the C47?... Most likely because they either have troops to take the town or they are slower Have no defense armament and usually The first to get announced on Vox; Kill the C47!!! and everyone Goes to hunt it down.
I can expect the same for the Kate as well seeing as it only has that little 7.7 For rearward Defense and No FWD firing Weapons So its probably Dubbed ***Easy Kill*** or ***This guy is a noob Because he upped a lesser aircraft that can't shoot at you on His 6'o'clock*** (Even a D3A1 can be scary at times)
I myself always assume the P40 Pilot is either Good in the aircraft or Likes the P40, Or is new and knows it has fame in its name, But I have bad experiences with a P40 Pilot whooping me before So I'm always a little cautious around the Earlier aircraft
I'd Take anything on in my zero Though, Not that I'll win however...
and To fair play... I don't like to Ho, But I have done it before, I have to say I have ganged before, But feel like Crap afterwords (Unless I'm having a bad day And want to watch something go *Boom!* by me Anyway I can :rock)
I try not to say anything if I do get hoed or ganged but on the unusual day...
I see To many N1k2-Js  But I consider myself lucky to be graced with SpitMKXIVs cause I rarely see them...
And oh well We lost a Plane that you can Up again any time you want, I really Can't say much else...

Last night we were attacking a port and a couple guys kept upping Zekes. I was in my Hog (1D, I'd come heavy but had to dump ords when I encountered a co-alt Spit. Who HOed me, then blew through and went to go HO a squaddie who was following out of icon range when I first contacted the Spit ) Obviously, I'm not going to sit level and let those Zekes turn me to death.
My squaddie and I were working them over, and every time they'd play the exact same game: Whenever one got around on me I'd be extending in a zoom to give my squaddie a shot. Simple pair tactics against a better-turning plane. The Zeke would evade to go after him and I would roll over and drop on him. I've got a full-plane shot right at his cockpit. Then he'd pull straight vertical to try shooting me in the face. I took damage from collisions TWICE this way (second time fatal. No chance to evade as he'd wait until I'm 600 out, dropping hard, and about to shoot).
It's not the HO that bugged me. If a Zeke wants to try to HO me with those awful guns he's welcome to try it. What ticked me off is that he was pulling up into me in a situation that made avoiding the collision impossible, and THAT'S what caused the fatal damage. He could have just as easily broken under me and still cheat my shot, and probably put himself in a better position on the reversal (it was low-alt, so I couldn't have kept him in my sights without risking smacking into the ground).

Hmmm, would things have evolved differently if you had been in the P-51 ?

Uptown,
Its the nature of the beast, usually when you see the name in lights that player x killed umteen kills, its not from fighting a fair fight you can be assured.
yesterday I seen guys shooting down just bombers or picking off guys that were engaged already from 20k+ in their temps, typhs, but when you engage them with something that will give them a fight they dive for their buddies or ack. Just sad.
The score baby was born long ago, now its just getting too fat to feed itself.
Anything for a kill except actually working for it. :aok
-
You did the right thing by going for the fight Uptown. Take some good out of the whole thing Sir!

I doubt that the P-40 itself really had much to do with your encounter other than it does not have a lot of options to deal with any pair of higher E attackers. The only thing that surprised me is that you had the patience to climb all the way to 10K in a P-40! I admit that in LW 10K is almost mandatory for the P-40, but still, the waiting, (rrrrrrr 1.5K) and waiting, (rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr 3.5K) and w a i t i n g , (r r r r r r r r r r r r r r r r r rr r r r r r r r rr r 7K) . . .
The only thing that I can suggest is to go to MW when you want to fly the P-40. Sure the fights won't change, other than it will be a Spit 8 and a Hurri 2C diving in on you, but you will only have to climb to 5K to be victimized. That doubles your chances of finding a worthwhile fight right there!
Seriously, I used to find lots of people in MW willing to give my P-40 a reasonable fight, and have found a few of them still in MW recently. The fights are out there, you just have to work harder to find them. At least you are trying.
:salute

I feel ya bro.I like the ki61 and it seems they will drop everything to go after me.I guess they feel easy kill.I have had the opposite this week.I have had an unusual number of clean fights that were real enjoyable.
-
That sucks Uptown. A while back i was in a Ju-87 and got kill by a Temps. I guess i was a real threat.
-
Totally standard for the main arena. Get out of that P-51 more often and see what it's like when you can't simply extend away. :devil

hehe...i love the Tony...just ask those pesky spit pilots how much of an "easy kill" it can be
-
Its the general downward trend of game play in the main arenas.
I was helping defend a base yesterday. Upped an A8 to work on the line of buffs that kept coming in....not that I thought they would be trying to carpet bomb all the GVs at the V base :D Along comes a high yak cherry picking....err...defending buffs by killing fighters on the buffs. He's got alt and speed on me, and turns in to me. So I figure the fights on. I get him out front of me but blow the shot opportunity, and instead of diving away push the fight. Well he gets the upper hand and all I have left is dive out, so I do. We get to the deck with him 400 off and I head for the field and some support. I'm zig zaggin making my self as tuff to hit as possible while slowing hoping for another over shoot, but it doesn't work and I get killed.
No problem, grab another plane and start back to the fight. So far its all cool, had a good fight, pushed when I should have ran, ran when I had no choice, died to a plane that should have beat me in the terms I supplied by sticking with the fight. Instead of that being that, the guy who shot me down now has to start up with "Stick stirring isn't going to help you Fugitive". So now I have to put up with Mr Big mouthing off. I didn't stick stir, but did maneuver as much as I could to avoid getting shot. He wins the fight and still feels he needs to continue it. So now Mr Big wants to make it personnel  Well thats not the game I'm playing so I squelch another one. Theres more trash talking and name calling going on than there is flying !
Play the game! You make a mistake, take the death or fight your way out of it. Learn a maneuver other than the HO. And if you "need" to talk a big game because yours is so little, spend some time in the TA and learn how to make your game a bit better !
-
You're not used to this by now? Its nearly impossible to find a good clean (read: FUN) fight in the MA. Last one I found, I was in my F6F and was bounced by a Spit. The guy was good and we both avoided pointing our noses at each other....round and round, up and over....we got close to solutions several times but then lost it. It was a toss up and I was having a blast as we went around several times......then I see the tracers and turn to see an IL2 out of nowhere
Yes, Its my fault for low SA, but damn I WAS having a good clean fight, then this foo comes in and ruins it. I don't know if the Spit was crying for a buddy to help or not, either way it completely ruined a good 1V1. It was still anyones' victory at that point.
If I see a 1V1 happening near me, I always ask if that person is OK. If they are mounted, then I'll come in and help. But if they are mixing it up and seem OK, I let them be. :salute

A niki that HO'd and you are ticked? Time to play another game

All day long its the same thing... you climb and fly to cons (cant say fight) and when they see you they make sure you see them and then they dive under you and stay in the trees so that when you dive to them they can climb and HO you. So as long as you are paying attention you loop over and shoot a stalled plane but after hours and hours of this you get tired of it and try something new like going for the HO.
Or the con that comes over in his perk plane and when he gets in a tight spot turns to hard pushes and pulls to escape:

Its the weekend and I am of the opinion that on weekends its always the worst.

That is one thing that irretates me in the game. Stick stirring, yank and pull to no end. No way in real life in a WWII plane could these manevs be pulled off to the extent they do in the game. First off, the plane wouldn't be able to handle the stress from those type of manevs. 2nd, the pilot wouldn't be able to handle the drastic pos to neg g's that would come from that crap let alone be able to maintain control of the plane.
-
Hmmm, would things have evolved differently if you had been in the P-51 ?
Yes, I'd would have killed them both with in short order
-
Why would anyone ever expect a fair fight in MA!? Learned that on day 1. Maybe those that complain about this need to learn some sa. If I go to 2 vs 1 I expect to fight 2 planes regardless of when they enter. I will give uptown the nod for promoting the fight.
If I see a plane friendly fighting a con I will probably fight vulch. Not always but probably. I feel the more friendlies I keep alive the better my chances of survival. Besides I don't know how the fight developed. Was it in fact a fair fight to begin with? Was the con the last of a horde? Did the con have e? Was the con picking and messed up? Just because two planes were fighting doesn't mean it was fair.
There is nothing in the rules that say you have to wait your turn.
-
Seriously, Uptown. You were half a second from killing his wingie. Maybe the HO was the only shot he could take in time to clear his mates 6.
Just sayin.

I expect a fair fight because that is how I was raised. If my buddy got into a fight on the playground, I didn't go over and kick the other guy in his head because my dad would kick my butt when I got home.
I've been playing the game long enough to know that a Spit14 and niki both out perform a P40, especallily if they have a 5K alt avantage.

You are crying because a guy cleared his wingie's 6. Unbelievable. I've been picked a time or two off someone's 6 by your squad mates. Do you intend to stay in that squad?

Yeah I know Steve. This was a weak whine at best but dangit, it just irks me that I had both those guys out flown in a piece of crap and the one had to result to a dirty tactic to kill me. That's all I'm saying.

Well I'm playing a bit of the turd here. I see your point in that you feel you outflew a superior plane and earned that kill.
-
It was funny last night because Sads was complaining about the same thing I was (no fair fights). So I go over to where he's at in hopes of a good dogfight. But when i get there I merge with 2 F4Us a C&D, both ho...I dive away and look back and have I bet 10 behind me all in a line and bullets flying everywhere :lol Needless to say I parked the P40 and went to bed :furious :rofl
-
A the p40 is not a piece of crap! Give her a chance and don't give up on her.
-
Of late I have found this too...much like in the post about scotch that is here. I understand about the ho thing I find it to be a little on the nose (haha) that it resorts to this when in these postions... especially when there is more than three. It makes me revert to the full frontal quarter shot myself which is bad because I have an 80% chance of death going for a ho on a C47... I just suck at it.
In say all this though, I do come across many good 1v1, 2v1 fights often in the MA but I do fly a different time zone.
I must say though has definitely helped my SA and defensive fight. Still get target fixation from time to time still.

Way different scenario. I doubt in WWII they would call off their wingie to make it "Fair". But frankly I would cover my buds butt and maybe even avoid the playground tussle with a show of force unless told otherwise.
Now you jumped into the p40 knowing what the plane's weakness and you entered the fight knowing there were 2 of them. You were testing you mettle which I admire but whining about, then getting killed by one of the cons?! Oh come on. If you had killed both you would have been bragging. You took your chances and it didn't work out your way. The only reason you are posting.
Besides, weren't you one of the folks defending furballs? Now you are going to get teamed in those.
-

:lol We like to gang you because everytime one of us kills you, you jump right on 200. We do that to get a rise out of you and it works every single time. I like fighting you. You're a good stick, but when you start bad mouthing us we hunt you down.
One of our main tactics is the hook and drag but you can never seem to figure that out. Nothing personal 420, but you just don't pay attention most of the time.

You give these pilots too much credit. Chances are they aren't very good, get killed a lot, and will take the opportunity to kill the red guy any chance they get. Most of the MA pilots are like this. The possibilities of getting ganged, HO'd, and treated like an actual enemy should be assumed in every engagement in the MA because that's how it transcends the vast majority of the time.
-
Uptown the thing is you took a P-40 , and every once in a while you will see guys land kills in it . Besides its fun to fly older early stuff . you can suprise the living cr** out of someone in them . You got ganged as do I when I fly them but still I fly them , its about the fun . Just don't let the basteges get to ya .
Nutte :salute

I can't argue with that. Good post sir :salute
:salute
Edit: You know just getting on the spits tail is pretty darn good.

Thanks Fugitive.... :salute
Stick jerking will make you go blind..... :lol
-
:lol We like to gang you because we're pretty horrible without alt or numbers, hopefully both.
QFT! :rofl
I've got a nice film of p51's getting ownt; Vampire and immediately after Rabbit are the last two, both started with all the advantages. And here I thought in Vampire's and your squad's case that rank would mean something!
[/sarcasm]

stop whining. Not even going to finish reading this.

A the p40 is not a piece of crap! Give her a chance and don't give up on her.
She's not too bad of a plane. Took her up in the DA because of the upcoming FSO (wanted a check flight as I'm planning to request Allies) and bagged three before I got cherry-picked by a 4-Hog.
Rate of climb actually isn't that abysmal, about in the same category as the F4U-1. She dives well and can pick up a pretty good head of steam going downhill, and is fairly maneuverable. Canopy is heavily framed, but otherwise has a great view over the nose so deflection shooting is fairly easy. I'd say her speed, limited ammo and marginal high-altitude performance are her biggest flaws.
-
Uptown, :salute on flying the P-40...I love that plane. I'll take her right into the middle of a furball and not think twice. You can always count on getting gang banged by every red guy in the mix. It doesn't matter how many friendly spits, LA's, Niki's, ect are there, the red guys will dis-engage them to go after your P-40. They gotta have that P-40 just like a toilet after a Taco-Bell or Carrabba's dinner (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-toilet07.gif) (http://www.freesmileys.org) . That's why I love it, for the attention and as Curnutte said you can suprise the living cr** out of someone with it. Reminds me of a flock of seagulls on the beach going after one fry.. Mine Mine Mine

Interesting.
Let me explain to you again what happened last night since you were preoccupied with your endless loops to see. You are chasing Horrido1 in a 190D9 in your Spit1...I engage. Nothing wrong so far? Or should I have just let you two be, even though it clearly wasn't a fight and he was extending away handily? Anyways, I engage in a 152, we start fighting. Horrido comes back in after we are engaged. The endless loops ensue and you begin to get the advantage on me. I get guns on you once on a 1/4-1/3ish Shot as you fly 200 yds underneath me, barely clip your wing. Shamus and another ally decide that the 2v1 on a spit1 isn't enough and dive into the fight also. Eventually you succumb to the gangbang and start whining at me on 200 that I'm a HOing gangbanger.
So lets recap: I was the first enemy in on you, I took a 1/4-1/3ish shot on a spit1 (probably the best shot i was going to get in an endless looping battle in a 152) and then more allies jumped in and killed you. Maybe you should have griped at the 4th and 5th guys in and not the player that initially engaged you.
And your head on definition might be a little stingy.

This is directed at the AH Community entire.

Heh, well I try my best to keep gameplay fair and sometimes it doesn't happen as situations aren't always cut and dry, but for the most part it stays fair from my end.

Isn't she beautiful. Especially stall fighting and turning at 100 mph. Yes she has her limits but she's not a piece of crap!

The P40 is one of my favorite planes. And I've killed alot of spixteens and La7s with it in the past. But overall it just can't hang with a K4,G14,51,38,LA,Niki......If the pilots are of equal skill level. With that being said I think alot of folks underestimate it and let their guard down thinking they have a easy kill. Then all of the sudden it's on their 6 and they get sent to the tower. :D
-
I always orbit if somebody's having a one on one. If the teamate wins, I go "way to go". If he dies, I say "I'm going to be his next kill, you just wait and see".

Don't think we didn't catch that sir......................... :D
;)
In the last 3 months I've had one, two, maybe three good fights, 2 of them, with a Drunken Monkey it was.......
Its nearly impossible to find a good clean (read: FUN) fight in the MA.
They seem to me to be one of the more respectable enemies out there... :salute

Anything for a base take except actually working for it. ;)
Ladies and Gentlemen!!!! Announcing another famous misquote from THE BRONK. :D

Yes, I'd would have killed them both with in short order
Then why that P-40 exercise in the first place if you do not like to get shot down in that manner?
Do you really think you should get any sort of special treatment when you are flying a plane with less than average capabillities?

I don't know. Guess I expect a flight sim instead of a xbox arcade game.

Im betting that most of the newer gamers are more used to the xbox arcade type action game than they are with "sims". Maybe they saw an ad or maybe they just googled for "free game/trial" or whatever and decided to dl and play. I doubt many of them went out and googled for this particular type of game just because they are interested in ww2 aircraft and combat.

First time I played AH was during the AH days; prior to AH2. First time I died was turning to engage with someone, finding myself HO and slow at a capped base (didn't even know what capping was then), shooting him down to be killed by someone else.
Second time I played AH2 for a while, about 2.5 years ago. First time I died in that one was upping from a capped base, turning to avoid strafing planes, winding up HO with another one, killing it just to be shot down by someone else.
This time I started about 5 months ago. First time I died was avoiding a higher plane diving from me, winding up HO with his buddy, shooting him down to be shot down by someone else.
Some things never change, regardless of our memories of better times.
I laugh sometimes about players' interpretation of a HO though. I'm still waiting for the whining on 200 that I HO'd their tank after someone is shooting at me and I turn my heaviest armor to them and beat them to the killing blow. :o Most of the "He HO'd me" aren't any such thing, its simply situation caused by many other factors including the rest of the planes in the area.
As far as going 1 vs 2 and expecting the 2nd plane to stay out of it just because you were flying a weaker plane, sorry that cracks me up :lol

Why does the guy who picks a challenging plane, wades into bad sa/numbers situations without wingmen and dies quickly accuse the others of playing it like an arcade game???? Your method of playing actually seems more like what i do when i play a first person shooter because i want action and to kill a bunch of folks. Its just that AI lets you kill them when they shouldn't and in AH you have to actually setup your situation...
There is a DA for arranged 1v1's....
There is MW/EW for smaller number engagements....
There is a furball area in the DA if you want quicky fights...
I'm guessing the reason you are flying the MA is for some sort of recognition...if we make you a plaque that says you are uber will you stop starting a new thread about yourself every 2 days??? Just curious.... :devil

The only recap is that I enjoy the fact that some on this Board don't "practice what they preach to others."
This is directed at the AH Community entire.
I cant agree with you more, even though they have not been singled out publicly, we all know who they are without having to embarrass them any further, it has ruined their credibility.
To see them continually complain here on the BBS and then do the exact same thing they complain of just continues to tarnish anything they have remaining.
Rather sad, but makes for pure entertainment while they try to justify their complaint.
Bronk, with 7156 and counting, your probably on the Top of the list. Nobody can be the best at wine making but cork soaking has been your expertise as you have proven to be. :salute

The P40s P39s C47 and Ju87 are magnets. :D

Which is odd because they yield the fewest perks when XVI twits gang them for an easy kill.

QFT! :rofl
I've got a nice film of p51's getting ownt; Vampire and immediately after Rabbit are the last two, both started with all the advantages. And here I thought in Vampire's and your squad's case that rank would mean something!

The 'twits' you mention just want their name in lights I think.

We can add the P38 and Mossie to that list. Too bad I love flying those planes, I just hate the absurd amount of attention they garner. Good thing I don't care much about my K/D.

Yeah, what he said!!! Very few of us actually pay attention to things like Perk Bonus and such.

But for exactly what Anaxogoras states is why I rarely up a 5 plane. Give me the g2, a8.... Dare I mention a Spit 9?

Don't mention spits...anax starts to itch. ;)
