When I have tracers "Disabled" the 37mm cannon rounds DO produce a tracer when using the P39-Q and DO NOT produce a tracer when using the P39-D.
I prefer to see the 37mm cannon rounds and NOT the MG rounds when tracers are disabled.
Just thought I would mention that a variation between Ds and Qs with tracers off does occur.
-
I believe that one of the two does not have a 37mm in its arsenal. Could be wrong though.
-
Anything above 30 mm will use tracer.
The 39D has a 20mm option.
-
Although I never use the 20mm package I went in to MW arena to confirm that the 37mm on the D indeed produces no tracer when tracers are Disabled. The 37mm on the Q DOES produce the tracer when tracers are disabled.
Maybe one of you guys could go online and see if you get the same result.
Thanks :)
-
You are correct sir...and note the rate of fire diff between the 37mm in each ac.
-
The gun in the Q is completely different from that in the D. The only thing they share is a caliber of round fired.
I think the reason you cannot disable the tracer on the Q is because it wasn't an option for the pilots in WW2. I recall reading something about every round being a tracer and having a self termination after a certain range (the tracer element burned through into the shell's charge and terminated the round after x seconds).
Could be that HTC has simply modeled this into the game.
or...
could just be a bug :D
-
Erm I believe it is the same gun. The ejector port was modified on later models to help eliminate jamming.
I believe its a sound bug with the ROF not an actual increase in rate.
-
Oh, lord no!!
DEFINITELY not the same gun. Even in-game you can see the difference. The D is a turd gun and the Q is a lot straighter in trajectory.
D has a M4 Oldsmobile piece o' crap, but the Q has a T9 or some such. Almost on par with the Yak9Ts main weapon.
Worlds apart.

The T9 was never in a P-39. If you have documentation to prove otherwise... please post.
Edit: I just tested offline. Pulled cannon to 150 and set target to 800. D and Q virtually identical drop, the yak T however was still hitting center mass. Try it yourself. I'd post pics but photobucket is acting up.

Then it wasn't the T9. I'm not sure what the name was, but it was a different gun.

Same gun. Was always a turd gun. Same 37mm is on the PT Boat too.

Same gun just a modified ejection port. Probably gave it a redesignation.
-
I don't think so. I can't be arsed to search the forums but it's been discussed at least briefly.
-
P-63 had the M-4 cannon as well.

Yup... different feed. IIRC Krusty you are mistaken. Dean's list no change in cannon other than what I've mentioned.

Actually, after reading the internet I found that M10 was used in the P-63. Different feed, belt fed, higher rate of fire, same poor velocity.

All 39's used the same 37mm m4 cannon.
":Edit: The 37 mm Automatic Gun, M4, known as the T9 during development, was a 37 mm autocannon designed by John Browning[1] and used in the Bell P-39 and P-63 fighters.."
Ever single 37mm m4 used the M54 standard round. Each round had a built in tracer/detonation device.
None could be made invisible, and all* of them blew up after 3 seconds.
only exception was the M80 standard Ap round.
If we had this round (M54) as it was in real life, our 37mm m4 rounds would be very different, we would see "mini puff ack" just as the shells reached max range. "Can you say mobile mini flak?"
What a dang shame, WHAT A DANG SHAME!!
-
IIRC most if not all HE cannon shells had auto detonation device.

Have any evidence of this? :rock

Fact still is, the 37mm always had a tracer, and should thus never have the ability to be turned off.
Moving right along. :salute :rock
-
I don't think you can turn it off on the 39Q in-game. Maybe it's just for the other guns.
So the bug, then, is that the tracer disappears on the 39D, when it should be always-on like in the Q model.
Or maybe the D has no tracer on that gun because it also mounts the 20mm there (which can be turned off)?
Not sure if it's an oversight or a limitation.
