Interesting.Nothing new really, but will hopefully help changing peoples perception somewhat about the balance of power in the air: strategi (right or wrong) were more important than the (overrated) tecnological differences in the ETO -43 onwards.

one technological factor that changed the course of the war in russias favor was the introduction of icons in 1944. no longer could the germans sneak up from below or disapear in ground clutter. now they were always seen at all times.

friendly fire became a thing of the past and ID of bandits became very easy.

formation flying for ID and coordination purposes became totally unnecessary.

after their introduction aircraft performance became much more of a factor and so did shear numbers on one side or the other.

once the enemy was within 12 miles they could only get away from a superior force if their plane was faster.   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

being bounced was no longer a problem for the russians since now they didnt have to check their 6 much to know if an enemy was behind them.

October 1944 became known as the Hunt for Red october. all russian aircraft were on a mission hunting for the large red icons and the diminutive planes attached to them.

it was during this month that the russians also completed Lenin's airfield... a large aerodrome on top of a 10,0000 foot mountain in the center of the combat zone.

danish,

Pay no attention to crazy ol' Cita.  He's just venting a little, as well as mentally biting his nail, thinking of that Yak-9U that's going to be on his forked-tailed tushie  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

Yes, danish, I'm really looking forward to 1.03 too, and for more than just a late war VVS aircraft ... though I really am itching to get in one of those Yakovlevs.  I can't wait for that first chase of a P-51 when we're on the deck and I start gaining on them.  And forget about that pony uber-zoom too    (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Ahh, that wonderfull feeling. My favorite currently is to get a P-38 on the deck and let him wind up running wide open throttle. Then after I know he's wepped for a few minutes and is still just co-speed with me I kick in the wep and gain up the ground for the coup de gras.

I love using the Lavochkin for 190-spanking too.  Their only hope is to stay over 20,000 feet or HO me.   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
