What would be a great universal remote control. I have 4 components and hooked up to my TV and may be connecting a vcr. With the TV that makes 6 remotes. My couch looks like a game of Pick Up Sticks. Any advice would be appreciated.

If you can find the Logitech Harmony 550 they are great for a nice price. I paid around $60 for mine at Best Buy right around Christmas when they were on clearance. They were replaced with the 510 which I don't like as much but overall I like the Logitech ones much better than any other universal remote I have ever used.
Here is a great deal on a Harmony 880 and will be one that I probably end up getting for the main room and transferring the 590 to my bedroom when I get my flat screen in there.

the Logitech Harmony remots are the best way to go.. they work very well.
it is VERY VERY important you set it up and install it yourself though.. and know how to program it yourself.
because A: If you have best buy it do.. they will charge you an arm and a leg.
B: I can guarantee you will at some point want to change something about how it set up..
C: If you have a cable box and it wont control the box correctly, the cable company will not touch that remote unless you get VERY lucky and get a tech that owns one himself.. and even then they probably wont want the liability of messing with 3rd party stuff.

Philips Prestigo is the way to go. The batteries last longer in them as opposed to the Harmony remotes. It is also easier to program.

I will agree that the batteries in the Logitech one are way to quick to burn down. With my 550 the brand new batteries I put in it a few days before Christmas were toasted by the week of Valentines Day.

Thanks folks. Not sure which one to go with. Do either of these handle all of the functions?

Both will. Both are about the same price and the Phillips is easier on batteries. Less clutter in the Phillips too, it's touchscreen.

Wingnutt and Resche, I gave the harmony a close look. However, ease of setup, price, and battery life won out.
Karaya, I went out to Best Buy and purchased the Phillips on sale. Still a tad more than online but I got it today. So far it is Saaaawheet! Now I need to find a box big enough to put all those remotes in.

Hey no problem to each his own. I didn't have a bit of trouble setting my Harmony up with multiple devices to turn on with the punch of a button. I got a great deal on mine. If you are happy then cool that is all that matters to me with tossing out some information to help a brother out.

Glad I could help. Phillips used to have problems with their Battery life with the Prontos. While being catsass remotes, the battery drainage was beyond belief with them.
I don't have one of these yet (need to coax the wife), but several of my buddies have them and like the "Auto on/off" that saves batteries, even more than the Logitechs.
Philips is again the catsass remote, but the word is moving slower. However, those that own them, know.

Yes, I looked at that one too while at Bestbuy. Price was steep for me. Probably a great remote as well.

I have 3 Harmony remotes - 659, 880 and Harmony One. They are all great and the last 2 have charging cradles. Their online database already had the setup for my PC motherboard remote and my airconditioner. The only remote codes they had to learn were for my accent lighting behind the 60" Sony. One remote controls PC, AC, lighting, DVR, AVR, DVD, 2 Bluerays and the 27" tv I use for PIP since the 60" is also my PC monitor. :D I heard the Phillips weren't bad either.

My only complaint with the 880 is the charging cradle. I ended up sanding down the plastic around the contacts of the remote and it is still sometimes easier to put a weight on it. The Harmony One is nearly perfect and I have seen them on Amazon for under $190. It doesn't do much more than the 880 but the touchscreen is cool and no charging issues.

Okay, have the Pristego half way set up. I have it so when I want to watch satelite I just press one button and it turns on the Satelite reciever, tv, and tuner. It also puts the tuner on Satelite input. Still need to do that for the dvd players. One problem I haven't been able to over come is pick the tv input. Such as vid1, vid2, front cmp1 etc. I can do this on the tuner because it has individual buttons for each input. However, since all the buttons work I can select the input from the new remote. I just cannot get it to program the input since the tv remote does not have individual buttons.
Still much better than before.
