Title: It must suck being the Walmart greeter...
Post by: sluggish on March 04, 2009, 07:04:43 PM
Remember when you went to wallyworld and the old dude welcomed you on the way in and wished you a pleasant day on your way out?  Then they put in those "self check-out" thingys and people started stealing more stuff so they made the greeter into a security guard.  This guy who used to give me a smile and send me on my way now wants to look at my receipt and looks at me like a cop would.  Do you think they gave him a raise?

Your Walmart has self checkout?

Sort of surprises me, we have Krogers and Home Depot, but Walmart? We have one of the highest profiting Walmarts in the country I read.

The walmart greeter here is scary

Looks like the sloth from Goonies with a lazy eye. I guess he can watch two people at once though

watch what you say .. you may be wishing for that greeter job when you are his age ...

or get used to saying "paper or plastic?"

100% retirement for most of us is pipe dream .. prepare to work at some level until you drop dead

Well, if I hired on as door security that's one thing but If I hired on to greet customers and then a few years later they changed the job description to include door security I'd be POed and expect a raise.  I myself have given the poor guy grief when I'm in a hurry and he wants to look at my receipt.  The heightened exchange of animosity alone is worth a rise in monetary compensation let alone the added responsibility.

I really dont think pops or the handicap greeters are gonna chase anyone. They just peek at the reciept.Ours are really nice.Yes I go there too much. Our town has shoplifters stand where you drive onto the property holding a sign saying I am a thief and stole from this store.I think this was a great idea.

The greeters at the local Consortium of Evil Store (aka "WalMart") that I go to don't ever check my receipt, even though we have the self checkouts. I dunno if its laziness or the fact that I'm in uniform and carrying a weapon though...

So they employ profiling...

Absolutely. The alternative would be to ignore all of your hard-earned life experience (and in your case, your on-the-job experience as well). Which is just plain stupid, don't you think?

(Sorry for the rant. Probably heard too many stories of elderly Korean women being strip-searched for bazooka's at the airport)

Pretty much the only time they check your receipt is when you purchase something large or not in a bag.  When I was working for wallyworld the door greeters were at pay grade 1 with the cart pushers.  Lowest pay in the store.

I dont let the greeters or any other employ go thru my stuff, once I buy it, it's my property and unless they have compelling evidence such as me on video stealing, they have no right to look in my bags and go thru my stuff. Once you pay for it it is YOURS and the store employees have no real right to go snooping thru it.
I told this to a wallyworld manager here in town. I also told him that if shoplifter are such a problem then they should hire more security to deal with the issue.

After that there were a few more choice words that I can't type here. Suffice it to say that when it was all said and done the local police officer that they called due to me not playing a sheep to there demands informed them that they have no right to search my stuff that I just bought and they could be arrested for detaining me without sufficient cause <ie. catching me stealing>.  :D

They dont ask to see anybodys stuff at that wallyworld anymore unless the detector goes off which is rare...atleast when I'm there
