When you accidentally type a swear word in a sentence on anything other than squad channel, it deletes your sentence and then warns or mutes you. I don't understand the point of this. The game already deleted your sentence, why can't a box pop up that says "No profanity on public channels."? It makes no sense to delete your sentence and also slap you on the wrist for something that caused no harm. You should only get muted for trying to bypass the profanity filter by either a CM or players using the .report function.

Grizz, I think I have accidentally muted myself once in all my years here at AH.
Yes a few times I have typed something that I thought would go through, but didn't.
And when that happens you really need to restrain the temptation to try it again.
The average person has no problem avoiding the language filter.
Now you can swear all you want on your side of the monitor.
But leave it there please, as I'd really rather not hear it.
Think of the text filter mute as chlorine for the pool. If its bugging you, chances are thats why it was built in the first place. And instead of getting angry at the text filter. Maybe you should change your habits a little bit.

How exactly do you "accidentally" type anything?
"I swear, my fingers have a mind of their own"?
wrongway

Maybe try toning down the language. :D System seems to be working just fine... :aok

You aren't hearing it. You will only hear it if somebody bypasses the profanity filter. The filter already deleted your sentence. See, I knew I was going to get this type of response but I posted this anyways. The thing is, you aren't seeing it if something slips out in text. The system deletes it. There should be no mute penalty, nobody was offended.

Fingers, mouth, same thing. Both controlled by the brain.
Say you are used to typing to your squaddies on squad vox and then you all go to a channel one night so a couple non squad members can fly with you. Same group of guys and you accidentally swear. MUTE. And for what, your sentence doesn't even go through. It should just tell you "Not to use profanity and to reword your sentence"and that is all. No mute is necessary.
If you're taking this thread is that I want swearing to run rampant on AH you are wrong and missing the entire point. I don't want swearing at all on AH in public areas.

I know i misspelled something once and muted myself. I don''t remember what the hell i was trying to type LOL
-
I understand misspellings but really if you are worries about the auto-mute then the easiest way to end your concern is to not tempt it. If you think you might get muted then don't type anywhere in the game, not private or public chat. seems pretty simple to me.
I honestly think it is (for the most part) fine the way it is.
don't release the text, warn user, then mute. seems perfect to me. It pretty much needs to happen this way or you get the little punk kids and many adults too trying to bypass the filter repeatedly because there would be no repercussions of it.
-
Yes Grizz, I understand, but what you were asking for is for it to be removed. So I WOULD hear it.
The system is just fine, it works. If YOU have a problem, might I suggest you look to yourself for a solution.

He's asking for the 10minute ban to be removed because the sentence is already blocked and not showing up anyways. You wouldn't see the text. You would still hear all the usual unchecked cursing on range channel by everyone though.
I don't necessarily agree with this wish but I know exactly where he's coming from.

I understand what youre saying grizz. Why delete the words and mute the player? I think the answer lies in prevention and hindsight. After you get muted for 10 mins you tend to be less likely to type swear words.
By the same token as your argument...
If the words dont get broadcast, why do we need to type them at all?
-
Yes Grizz, I understand
Actually you don't understand it at all Ghosth. <shakes head and walks away>

Or more likely to mask the swear words? Masking swear words is what you should get warned and muted for by CM's and .report.

We don't, but typing blocked words sometimes just happens. If you're used to potty mouthing it on squad channel, it's quite easy to slip up on a vox channel.

There really is no point to the automute when it already deletes the line, and includes words that aren't profanities. It never really occurred to me before, but Grizz makes a good point. I've also automuted myself by typing words that include some abbreviation or blacklisted word that obviously isn't an attempt to swear on a common text channel. This isn't a bad idea. Obviously it would continue to block the comms, and it seems a bit silly to mute people for things no one sees or hears, when they make no effort to control vox, which is usually laced with profanity.

It's HTC's equivalent of smacking your step-kid on the back of the head when he wasn't doing anything, and saying "I know you were thinking of something!"
-
I'm still pondering over how you "accidentally" type something. Trust me...I have experience with the mute system (to say the least), and even though it erases your message, it DOES give you a warning about how "Continued use of profanity......." Only after you receive this message do you get muted for typing yet another "bad" word.

I'm still sore over getting muted for "F4U over here!"...
