Title: Apple Apps
Post by: Serenity on March 05, 2009, 10:54:08 PM
For anyone with an iPhone/iPod Touch, I just spent $10 on the 2.2.1 upgrade for my iPod and I'm looking for some good apps to buy. In the way of games, I have already run my battery dead twice on iShoot. Its a fun little arcade game, and I love myHomework for keeping track of my, well, homework. Does anyone else have any good Apps to suggest? Free or paid.

lol. No. I don't find fart jokes even the least bit am amusing. I was amazed by just how many other people did though. Obviously enough to warrant 30+ apps you have to PAY for, that just make fart noises. No wonder our nation is going down the drain...

Depends on what you're looking for... mine is full of aeronautical oriented ones (anything from a makeshift glass cockpit to a METAR/NOTAM database)

FreeMemory is useful to avoid having to reset the device if it slows down, Fring is great for chatting, Skype calls and such, and the eBay app is nice as well.

As for games, my favourites are HoldEm and Fieldrunners. Have Xplane as well, but don't use it much.

i love the remote desktop apps... You can control your home PC with your ipod/phone.  Most of the games seem blahhh to me so I dont suggest the ones you have to pay for.

Nope, not the new 2.2.1. I did it to the old one before the upgrade. One thing I want is to be able to see my wallpaper in the background when in the normal screen, not just when I have it "locked". You know what I mean? I looked for an app. to do that, but Summerboard/Springboard seems to be something iTunes doesn't sell...

Well that would be kinda of dumb. The icons would cover up the background unless you had clear icons. My advice is to download QuickPwn for the 2.2.1 software and jailbreak it. This gives you access to Cydia which has 900 themes for you to choose from.  Plenty of other hacks and MODs for you to use as well. Such as "tap to unlock" vs "slide to unlock" and plenty of Lockscreen themes, slider themes, etc.

Eh, I don't particularly fancy the themes, I have some great pictures I use for backgrounds.

Well, you could get a nice transparent theme then the backgrounds would actually be of some use. I think you would have to change the background image in the theme through WinSCP (SSH)

I'm not experienced with SSH. Last time I had my iPod jailbroken, it automatically made my wallpaper display on the home screen as well, which I cannot figure out how to do again :( Would that require SSH knowlege? or do you know of an App to do that?

I've only got a few:

Caissa Chess (strong enough AI and good interface)
Payback (entertaining GTA clone)
Pandora internet radio

Well download WinSCP, plug your iPod in (to be safe). Enter your local IP address as the host. User as root and password as alpine  .
That gets you into your iPod and then you can browse through from there.

Why did you spend money on a firmware update? Mine was free.

If you have an iPhone, it is free. If you have an iPod Touch however, you must pay for the update which brings it up to iPhone standard.
