Give me your opinions on best-overall 109 models. Which you like, and why? Please specify your arena of play. Thanks Tuk151 :salute

The only one that isn't good for MA play is the E-4. But, even that one is fun.
The F-4 is better for slower flying (you'll give Spitfires a real surprise!), and its not as slow as you'd expect.
The G-2 is pretty great all around, good speed and climb rate, and good turn performance as well.
The G-6 is basically like the G-2, except that the 7.9mm MG17 cowl guns are replaced with 13mm MG131's. The increase in firepower is, IMO, enough to warrant the small decrease in turn performance and climb, and the slightly larger speed deficit from the G-2.
The G-14 performs basically like the G-6, but it has an MW-50 boost system so on WEP it's pretty sweet. Great climb & speed, but it's also heavier (read: worse turn performance) than the earlier 109's.
The K-4 is the ultimate evolution, borderline-uber 109 which is extremely fast and has a great rate of climb. The only downside to the K-4 is that it can only equip the 30mm Mk108 cannon, which, though devastating is difficult to learn to use.
In pretty much all cases, when engaging contemporary aircraft the 109 is a vertical fighter.

What he said.
If youre trying to learn the type, start with the F4 and work your way up to the K4. Spend the most time in the G2 and the G14 as they represent the best transition models.

I honestly think I'm picking up love for the 109 again. I havent been doing good yet, but so far, I get 1 kill per sortie in a 109 :lol

Well said Motherland. My ideah for this thread was to get an overall ideah of a LW 109 for my hanger. All of which are in my hanger. I been flyin the g14, lately gaining alt , taking care of fighters and bombers. I have a squaddie (Jerlle) who fly's the k4 every sortie. Personally, i am looking for the 109 that can kill fighters and bombers with alt in the MA...
Please specify your loadouts in future posts...
As of right now, i like the g14 with a drop , 2 cans and gondola's added...... Tuk151 :rock

What he says. i am now learning the 109 family

g14 your best bet IMO, its my ride of choice due to its versitility :aok
-
Been trying the 109's out recently - only issue I've found with them is:-
G14, has an odd stall, not difficult to get out of, just odd
K4 - has some handling quirks when it gets slower (and I cant hit with the tater lol...)

Go ahead and give your skin favs' and loadouts please. I am asking from a pov with no squaddies, going to look for kills.... :salute.... Tuk151
Have been flying the 109's more lately, originated as a p51 pilot...

G6, learn it and it will be the best overall 109 in the series, i promise you. :salute

Dead ones. I like dead 109's the best.

Tuk, dt plus gondolas makes the 109 an overloaded pig.

You seem to wonder into threads and, well, Just give no info for the thread.. You wanna talk about 109's fine, if you dont, go elsewhere please...

How bout hitting incoming bombers...?

Pretty much asking for (ALL-Purpose) 109, with the load out. Give me your load outs with your 109,,,,
:salute

That's fine, but lose the dt. The dt rack + gondolas is nearly equal to a 500lb bomb.

The racks = drag.. understood.. Is it better to go with 3 cans, no drop? :salute

For the 109's, there really is not one "all around" setup per se.
But the G14 and the K4 models are as close as you will get for "all around" The G14 and the K4 models with the 30mm are great bomber killers. (once you figure out the aim) They can also hold their own with any and all fighters out there.
Don't bother with the 20mm gondolas on the G14 as the performance hit is not worth it (imho) unless you are ONLY going to fight bombers. You take a huge maneruverability hit w/ the gondolas and it really hurts you when fighting against fighters.
A 30mm shell, just one shell, is enough to drop most planes, and 2-4 will kill any bomber. (usually)
So for an "all around" I would suggest the G14 and the K4 w/ the 30mm option. You can kill bombers easily w/ the 30mm and are able to go toe to toe with any/all fighters.
(I also feel the drop tank is not worth the performance hit and it is very rare I take one.)

Ouch. I guess the shoe is on the other foot for me in this one. I'm sooo sorry I interrupted.

I enjoy fighting against K-4's

A new 109 driver should never take gondies, because you take a huge hit to all the things that matter in a 109, roll rate, climb rate, and the ability to leave your nose hanging for that extra split second. The gondies don't do anything that a 30mm can't.

I agree with sunsfan except for the last statement. It's not too hard to hit at long distance with the gondolas, whereas it's very difficult with the 30mm.
Tuk seemed to be ask about a buff-hunting setup for the 109, and so if you want to kill bombers, gondolas make sense. You might even take the 30mm and the gondolas for some real hitting power.
-
Sunfan is right, but when familiar with 109, good set is G2 with gondolas. More firepower, 20mm are easier to shoot than 30mm and G2 can dogfight with gondolas. K4 is uber, but when approaching bombers from somewhere else than 6 o´clock with high speed, it will need lot of skill to take killshot with 30mm.

G14/K4 are more apt to make you pay for your mistakes then any of the other 109s.
