I posted an idea some time back about a 'AH squad exchange program' and thinking about it I decided to try it out for myself. I want to join as many squads as I can but for only 2 weeks at a time.
After finishing a 2 week tour with each group I want to write about my travels within AH (Jack Kerouc style, as a good friend told me), unbiased and generally favorable to each squad no matter what their gameplay motivation. This will also have the side effect of allowing me to meet new people and experience different styles of gameplay.
This isn't to 'spy' or insult any group, it is all in good fun. I realize I may have little in common with some of the squads I join but that can be enjoyable as well. :)
Either contact here or via PM and thanks in advance! :aok

Hi
we will have you with us for two weeks
<S>
-
Sounds good! I'll register on your forums on your homepage when I get home.
If you use some other vox channel besides squad (channel 4), let me know. Judging ny your squad homepage, it looks like I'll have to brush up on my winging ability (or lack thereof).
Thanks for the opportunity! :)

hi Delirium
our Pleassure! we use our own TS Server and Radio 4 Squad Vox CH which you can tune in at first
Please follow our Rules for these two Weeks! Hope we will have a lot of Fun together!

Come fly a 51 with the 412th
-
We would love to have you on the Strike Bandits, I think you would enjoy it.

Now would be a good time to take out life insurance policies on any of Del's potential wingmen.

I'd let ya join the CHAWKS, but you'd use up all our P-38 spare parts!!! :rofl :rofl :rofl

I will join ANY squadron provided their invite is sincere, even those that I have disagreed with in the past (and frankly, that may be highly entertaining). I will be drawing squad names from a hat and the list of names will be gathered from this thread. I will draw 3 names at a time in case one, or even two squads back out.
In the meantime, if you are serious about inviting me to discover your squadron (and later all of AH to read about it), make you desire known with this thread or a private message.
-
Contact SkatSr for the invite if and when you're ready :aok

Delirium is going around different squads to steal their sheep. :noid

Careful he's a squeeeeeker. :P

dell if ya don't mind getting out of that light bomber for 2 weeks, may i suggest pm'ing kommandore stampf to come fly with JG11 for 2 weeks. Give you the AH luft experience. :salute
-
Good to see all the interest!
I'll put all the squads interested into a hat on Monday, March23rd. Like I said before, I'll pull 3 names in case one, or even two squads, back out at the last minute.
Ignore the fact the P38 is my main ride, I'm more than willing to fly a certain squads ride (ie 412 and their P51s or JG11 and their Luftwaffe mounts, or even a GV if the LTARs speak up) to experience the squad in their element.
I've also decided to give squadron COs the ability to read whatever I write before it is released to the general populace of AH. I'm not here to insult, spy, or be a nuisance to anyone or their style of gameplay. I will be a guest of said squadron and I shall act accordingly.
-
Here is the current list of people interested for the next rotation on March 25th;
412th Braunco Squadron
The Strike Bandits
The CHAWKS
The Pigs on the Wing
JG11
332 Flying Mongrels
(looking forward to more!)

Delirium, you're welcome to fly with the TAC Drivers, too. I'm sure Fencer would be delighted.

Beware, Delirium usually shoots at the red in front of you instead of the red behind you...then leaves you for dead :).

I'm sure bruv wont mind if you wish to fly with us in the few.

actually I would, I don't want Del's P38 anywhere near our officers mess, that goes for the likes of PAWZ too.
Plus he might enjoy the novelty of flying with us lot soooooo much, he may want to stick around. :uhoh.
In all seriousness the timezones are off putting, he won't get the real picture, I don't think, coming on late our time.

Sorry I haven't been on in a couple days, been very busy at home. That is one of the reasons I decided to visit a squad for a 2 week period, in case I missed a few days with a squad. I'm planning on doing a lot of time on AH this weekend...
Keep the invites coming, I will be 'rolling the dice' for my next squad on the week of Sunday March 22nd. If I haven't received your invite by the start of that week, your name will be added to the following draw.
-
303 wouls have ya Del, but we only have 5 players :)

My squad will hate me :lol You're welcome to hang with the HA's ( if you bring the beer) ;)

I'm going to extend my time with the Loose Deuce squad for another week, my time has been so limited lately I feel I haven't given them enough time.

Hi Del:
You are more than welcomed to fly with the 77th FS "Gamblers" for two weeks.
My hats off to you :salute for taking the time to get to know squads and get to know exactly what they do first hand. I've only seen one other person make the effort to come over and fly with us, and that is refreshing to know that you are willing to do so as well. :aok
PM me and let me know a few days in advance so I can let the guys know so that they can welcome you when they see you on channel.
I (and the guys) look forward to your visit.

The (un)lucky CO of the squad that won the virtual dice roll has yet to reply to any of my private messages via the forums, when he does I will post the squad's name.
-
The CO replied but due to low numbers online (at the moment) has asked me to place their name back into the hat for now. I rerolled the virtual dice and contacted the next (un)lucky winner.
The review of the Loose Deuce Squadron is currently being written.

Del,
Did I miss a post? Where are you posting these debriefs? I'd enjoy reading them.

-
I haven't written one yet, I am in the process of writing a review of the Loose Deuce squad at the moment.
Unfortunately, of the two squads that won the virtual dice roll neither one is available currently. The first squad is experiencing a low turn out and want to delay the turn out and the other the individual that invited me is no longer part of that squadron.
Auspicious start, hopefully the 3rd winner of the dice roll will take me in.
-
Hi Del
hope you got Fun flying a couple of Sorties with the ~<<~Loose Deuce~>>~
So anytime you like to have some Fune again, maqybe again a nice SEC Frame, just let me know and you are in!

I finally found another squad that would take me in.
The next few weeks I'll be with the Chawks, they won the next dice roll and didn't change their minds. Those poor devils! :devil
The first squad write up should be posted within a day or two, it is currently pending Dhyran's (Loose Deuce) approval prior to post.

The Loose Deuce Squadron
Have you ever wanted to join a squad that flies in formation, fights as a team, and uses terminology that sounds like it is straight out of modern gun camera film? If so, the Loose Deuce squad is for you.
My first experience with the Loose Deuce was logging on reading their 'Message of the Day' consisting of Teamspeak information and some general ideas to help promote proper wingman operations. Immediately, I knew that organization is not just something they maintain to their desktop, for certain my meager abilities would be tested.
Luckily for me, the Teamspeak installation directions were easy to follow and I logged onto their private Teamspeak server. Within moments I knew I was in over my head as everyone on the server at that moment was speaking in a language I didn't understand. My three years of Spanish 2 simply were not going to cut it! I spoke up on their Teamspeak channel as politely as I could.
"Hello gents, this is Delirium, good to meet you all."
The voice broke into English better than my own, "Hello Delirium, good to have you."
The voice belonged to Dhyran (pronounced 'DIE-ron), the Squadron CO from Germany, who was more than willing to speak whatever language was comfortable for the squadron members at the moment. As Dhyran explained to me, 'we would rather speak in English, we can speak combat phrases much easier since the words are shorter.' It turns out that the Loose Deuce have members that are from the US, UK, Germany, Sweden, Italy, and Denmark and with 15 very active members of the squad, they often have someone online.
The fighting style of this squadron emphasizes squadron tactics over individual combat. That doesn't mean the ability of this squadron is limited to squadron tactics, most of these guys have years of experience either in Aces High or Warbirds. I was shown just how able they were during the most active period for the squad; the Sunday European Campaign.
During the Sunday event we took off in SpitVs in a 1942 environment, our opposition was early Focke Wulfs and 109F4/G2s. As we approached the French coast near the Pas de Calais, we got jumped by 109s who outnumbered us with no less than 5k advantage. The Teamspeak chatter began as Spitfire and Messerschmitt became intwined in a frenzied furball, it all began with Dhyran calling the squadron break at the fights onset.
"Borgoo, watch that 109 your 4 o'clock high!"
"Geist, break right, it will put the 109 in my sights."
"Dhyran, we have more 190s on your 6!"
Moments later, the sky was clear with the Loose Deuce squad reforming 'feet wet'. Each engagement with the Luftwaffe was the same; a complete victory for the squad with the enemy running for home and often missing essential pieces of their aircraft. The total score; 12 kills for only 1 loss. I heard their trip to Germany a few weeks later in P51s was even more fruitful with 14 kills to no pilot losses.
(yes, Delirium is the one that pranged his kite upon landing)
They also have made an impact into the Main Arenas as well and their flying style there is a bit more relaxed but not enough for the opposition to gain any advantage. One episode in particular stands out in my memory of their winging in the daily arena. The Loose Deuce were flying approximately 10 miles from an enemy airfield when two spits engaged Borgoo (a nice gentleman from Italy) and I, both of us were also in Spit8s. So used to my P38, I took the fight vertical but it was obvious one of the Spit16s beneath me had the energy to follow me up and overtake as well.
Staying just far enough out from me to take advantage of it, Borgo came in and tore the left wing off that Spit16. Borgoo bled his airspeed to almost zero and the other Spit, seeing a new prize, pulled off of me and went for Borgoo instead. At this moment, Borgoo let his nose fall and the Spit not only lost his shot but also lined himself up for my guns. The entire fight lasted less than 20 seconds and ended quickly with two Spit16s fluttering to the ground below.
The Loose Deuce Squadron was a great home for a few weeks, they were great with one another and got the job done. I'd fly with them again in a scenario environment whenever I could, they made me open my eyes and realize that even structured squadrons can be be a lot of fun. I hope if you're looking for an organized squad, you will consider contacting Dhyran for possible membership at www.loose-deuce.net.
Thanks for the invitation!

I know dhyran, what he is doing, he do it for 200%.
If you ever have a chance to enter this squad, take it.

Good writeup Del. I've flown next to Dhryan quite a bit in random furballs and I have to say - it's a real pleasure. He's always giving you check 6s, he'll always clear you...it just makes for a fun experience when you have someone next to you that you can trust.
Have fun with the next one.

Lol well nice write up sir!
-
Great write up, I feel as though I know a lot more about this squad then I had before. (thats a good thing :D)
-
To be blunt, the write up was difficult for me. I haven't done any screen shots in AH before, I haven't done any creative writing in a few years, and I was entirely mixed on how exactly I wanted the format to be. I even toyed with mentioning everyone in a listed squad, but with some of the squads having so many member I feel it would grow impossible.
Thanks for all the kind words, hopefully my writing style will improve (it can't get any worse!).
-
del I really hoped that you enjoyed SEC. The event has really taken off in the recent months and hoping to see you there sunday. :salute

Thx Del!
I am proud that i was your wingman in the SEC and in MA!

(and thx for your gentle words about me!)

Great write up Del,
I used to fly with most of the gentlemen in Loose Deuce in our previous squad, and I can say they are a great bunch of pilots and a great bunch of gentlemen. If you have a chance to fly with them, you wont be sorry.

Very nice write up Del. :aok I wish I had the ability to write creatively, but unfortunately words fail me. :cry

I think your squad writeups should be stickied. They'd help people out who are in the squad search market

Once again, since my time online has been so limited lately (and I'm on call this weekend which equates to little AH time) I've asked the Chawks if they wouldn't mind if I stayed for an extra week, maybe two.
They accepted, those poor devils.

Hi Del,
any new story so far Sir?

I'm currently working on the CHawk's review and it should be ready within a day or two.

I've finally finished the write up on the Chawks, I'm waiting for a little more information from them before I post it.
I'm haven't rolled any dice to see what squad would be next on the visitation, but I will likely roll this coming week.

We'll give you a shot. We have a two week trial for new enlisted anyway.

:aok Would be good to be bait for a new face.
-
Are you part of a squadron but you feel like you’re missing something? Have you ever logged on just to shoot the breeze with squadron mates? If so, the Chawks are for you! The Chawks aren’t a squad, they are a fraternity! They have a loose command structure that stresses camaraderie between squad mates before organization, but more often than not someone comes to the forefront to lead the Chawks on an event.
When I originally joined the Chawks I thought I knew this squadron from some of what I’ve seen them do, but my preconceived notions were proven false within just a few hours. The Chawks tend to do whatever strikes their fancy, from base taking to fighter sweeps and scenarios. I’ve seen first hand they tend to succeed whatever they are performing night, even when they took dead weight like an old P38 driver like myself along.
My first night with the Chawks began with the majority of them taking bases with a method and a speed I haven’t seen online before. They took 3 formations of B26s, a C47, and a couple fighters beneath radar and headed towards a base close to the action. With incredible timing they used the B26s to flatten the town in one pass, used the fighters to cover, and the C47 landed in the town less than 30 seconds later. Here is a picture of the event…
(http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn270/DeliriumP38Lightning/censored.jpg)
(I can’t give away all the Chawk’s secrets)
I felt awfully green during this time, my eggs didn’t even hit the ground, and I guess I was too low when I dropped them so they didn’t arm. I even called out that a certain hanger was down, only to be gently corrected by the more experienced members of the squad.
This is not the extent of the squadron’s abilities, as later we were fighting on the deck defending the base. Those same guys that were adept at taking bases were shoulder to shoulder on the deck fighting higher cons, and often successfully. The person who gave me an invite to the squadron, 4XTCH, was leading the way and dealing more damage than he was receiving.
(JazzCH clears Lippy over the airbase)
Later, the Chawks defended a carrier group from numerous attackers.
(Lippy attacks a P47)
This squadron does even more within the scenario and FSO environment, I had the unique pleasure of flying with them during an FSO event and I shall always have fond memories of that time with them.

(QCareCH moves the bandit out in front)
The Chawk squadron also gives back to the community as two of the members are also CM (Campaign Managers) and have also been active with scenarios, taking command of squadrons.
The Chawks were very gracious to me during my time with them, both understanding my time was limited and I feel that I made lasting friendships that will outlive whatever ‘Roadshow’ idea I may be working on. The Chawks are a great bunch of guys and I am proud to say I enjoyed my time flying with them.
To join the Chawks, simply contact one of their members, most of them have invite privileges.

Also note, if Falc or WT asks you to bend over to pick something up...you may feel slight "poke". But come on over Del. You'll have fun. Been with the BoPs for about a year and half. They've become family...truely a great bunch of guys.

Recently, the Training Staff in Aces High had a momentary lapse in judgement and asked me to join their ranks. I have accepted but I find I cannot do the squad touring and put enough hours in the TA, while still staying happily married. With great regret, I will not be doing the 'Road Show' after my current time with JG11 is over, on or around July 14th, 2009.
I've really enjoyed the squadron rotation and I've made friendships I would of never made previous to the 'Road Show' inception. It has also made me much more tolerant of different squads and play styles, and that is exactly what I was looking for and I thank everyone who made it possible.
Rather than seeing the whole concept die, I've asked B4Buster to replace me and he has accepted. B4Buster is a good stick (much better than me anyway), a good guy, and has an even wider background in different planes types in Aces High than I do. Please, advance all of your questions to him and give him a chance to visit your squadron.
Here is the current list of squads on the visitation list;

Congratulations Delirium !
You have alot to offer the community. I can not think of a better choice.
Big Salute.

What Stampf said :aok

Why Del, you are too kind.
As Del mentioned, I will be taking over for him. He will still be a part of it, as I will accept any suggestion he gives me. I'm not sure if I will start with it right away, or wait a few weeks. Still deciding on that one.
Delirium suggested I visit the Hels Angels first, so that is what I will do once I contact Bear76. I plan on doing a rook-bish-nit squad rotation.
Looking forward to flying with you.
Congratulations on the Trainer spot Del. They could use a good 38 dweeb like yourself :)

Guess we'll have to do the dishes, take out the trash, make sure everyone is current on their meds.

Are you a Bf109 or a FW190 Experten? Do you have a fascination with Luftwaffe aircraft of all kinds? If so, JG11 'Sonderstaffel' Gruppe is for you!
In the beginning of July, I had the unique pleasure of joining JG11 after they won a dice roll amidst several other squadrons. Initially, I was filled with dread knowing I would be unable to fly my P38 during my tenure with this illustrious squadron. Later, I realized not only what a great experience I was given but I hadn't dreamed of how often torque would kill me.
The Sonderstaffel welcomed me with open arms, giving me access to all their films and their forums. The amount of information contained within is staggering, including some interesting information not available to those outside their Gruppe. I would also like to congratulate them on a strict 'no tolerance' rule pertaining to becoming involved in aggressive bickering, either on the forums or in the game itself. It tends to give the squadron more credibility and makes the game more enjoyable by all.
Stampf is the CO of JG11 and he tends to use a soft hand approach but is great at rallying his men. I respect the man, even if I can't fly a FW190 anywhere near as well as he does. Stampf encourages a team atmosphere and because of it their squad can take on a larger amount of opponents and still be victorious.
One episode comes to mind immediately during my time with JG11. CANUKK, VonMessa, and I were returning to base when we were bounced by 5 higher bandits. Using definitive tactics, we were able to drag them down until our altitude and energy was roughly equal. The fight went poorly for them after that...
(squad tactics equate to everyone surviving and everyone opposing them often dying)

Their squad-nights are on Wednesday nights and begin in the Training Arena, some sparring and warm ups take place at that time. I consistently lost these training fights but I learned a lot, those lessons I still draw upon when I get my own students in the Training Arena. Without ado, here is some pictures of their squad nights...

Normally, I don't highlight individual squadron members but one member of JG11 stands out above all others. His name is Vilkas "The Wolf", and is the 'Vati' (father) of JG11 not only for his age but also for his background. This man saw the Second World War as a combatant, but does not relish what he saw or what had occurred during those unhappy times. Regardless of his age, his youthful spirit tends to give JG11 more life than it would have otherwise and I am very proud to have had some flight time to get to know him in Aces High.
(Vilkas looks on from the rear seat in the 110 and tells Delirium how to shoot)
JG11 'Sonderstaffel' also has two official Aces High Trainers within their ranks and they have helped assist with scenario design in the past. They are a great squad and flying with them has helped me assist others in the Training Arena.
If you are interested in joining JG11, contact Stampf on the forums or visit their website at;
www.Sonderstaffel.org (http://www.Sonderstaffel.org)
Thank you, JG11 once again for putting up with a lousy stick like me for 2 weeks. It was a privilege!
