I'm in the middle of building myself a new computer, now my Uncle has a computer that's almost 9 years old, & it's just getting too old, slow, & locking up on him, so I'm gonna give him my old computer which is only 2 years old. Now I'm taking the video card out of my computer to put in my new one, so now I need a really cheap one to put in it for him, now he doesn't use the PC for gaming or anything, he doesn't even have it hooked up to the net, he's basically gonna be using it for pictures, finances, & other non graphic demanding things, so I'd like to just get the cheapest card I can for him, it needs to be PCI, so I'd like to only spend like $20, does anyone know a site that I could get a cheap card for him around that price, or does anyone on here have an old video card that want to sell me for around $20?

Does the computer have on board video? Also, if your building a new box, I wouldn't save the old style PCI for it. You can get a cheap PCI Express card that will run better than the old PCI.

The card that I'm putting in my new rig is a PCI Express, I just bought it about 6 months ago, it's just a ATI Radeon 2600 Pro, if I had money to buy a better card I would, but for now I don't, and the card that I replaced with this one I gave to a squadie(wish I would have kept it now, but oh well). I've been building the system piece by piece due to money restraints and I just got the new CPU & mobo today, and I bought the new case back in December, so tomorrow I'm putting it all together and the left overs I'm using for the computer for my Uncle.
The mobo that's gonna be going in the computer for my Uncle doesn't have onboard video, that's why I just want to find some cheap video card to put in it, like I said he's not gonna be using the computer for gaming, just mostly for doing other things like finances and other stuff like that, hell it's not gonna even be hooked up to the web. So like I said I just need a really cheap card to put in it, like $20 or something, so if anyone has an old card laying around they wanna get rid of for like $20 let me know.

Wow, just went there and they do actually have new cards on there for around $20, guess I should have looked there first but never thought that there were actually new video cards made that sold for that cheap, that's why I figured I'd have to find someone with an old card that wanted to just get rid of it.

Newegg shows a 7200GS or ATI X1550 for the $25 range. Plus you'll have to pay shipping. Trax, you're in Chicago, why not hit up the Tigerdirect store near you.

Unless it's a real commute, you'd save on shipping. Tiger's got 7200GS's for $25, or an 8400GS thats $20 after $10MIR.
Or there is always Craigslist.

Thanks again Fulmar for letting me know about that TigerDirect store in Hoffman, had to get a new PSU over the weekend when the one I had wouldn't fit into my new build, was able to pick up a 450 watt PSU for just over $30 there.

NP, next time in the Chi area I want to check out the store myself. How big is it?
Just orded my mom a camera from them (since Newegg was out of stock). Can't beat 1 day ship times.
-
It wasn't too big, about 1/2 the size of a Best Buy, maybe smaller, you could tell it was an old store, the parking lot was horrible, tons of pot holes, there was only like 2-3 registers, but they had a lot of stuff there, they did have plenty of employees to help though. Prices were good, way better then going to somewhere like Best Buy. I even picked up a 80mm Thermaltake fan with a speed control that goes up to 5500rpm for $8, can't beat that, it's a little loud at full power, but I keep it around 4000rpm and the noise isn't bad.

New EEG or Tigerdirect has cards in that price range. I didn't read all of your post so I don't know if you said that He had PCIe or PCIe 2.0. Or If the only slots he has are Regular PCI but..... i do know someone who was selling an ATI Sapphire HD3850 PCIe 2.0 that was used for a month until he got 4850x2 crossfire. He is a good friend and I trust him. He was selling it for about 20 to 25 bucks. If your intrested let me know I can see if its still around. Other wise Good luck! :aok
