The VF-17 Jolly Rogers are recruiting pilots interested in Naval Aviation. New pilots and vets equally welcomed.
We do ask you be 18 years of age and have an account with HTC.
We have three scheduled Squad Nights per week.
Sundays 7:00 PM EST Thursdays 8:00 PM EST as well as Friday Nights when we participate in Friday Squadron Ops (http://ahevents.org/fso-related/friday-squad-ops-welcome.html)
If there is no scheduled FSO for that Friday we will fly a normal Squad Night in one of the Late War Arenas. On squad nights we fly the same aircraft flown
by the real VF-17 The F4U1 and F4U1A Corsair and the F6F-5 Hellcat. Our Sunday and Thursday Squad Nights are fairly relaxed. Our biggest goal is to fly from carriers and
historic VF-17 aircraft on these nights. We may assist in a base capture or we may just concentrate on air to air fighting for the evening. The emphasis is on fun for these two nights.
The Friday Night Ops we take a bit more serious and put our game faces on.
Each pilot in VF-17 is assigned to a Flight or Division (http://home.alltel.net/hensons/VF17/flight.html) within the squad. Each pilot also has his own Pilot's Page (http://home.alltel.net/hensons/VF17/tex01.html) on the website with a personal aircraft and a list of his FSO accomplishments as well as his awards and medals. Visit the VF-17 Website (http://www.vf17.org) and tour each link to get an idea if VF-17 is the squad for you. We offer a great mix of fun and competition in VF-17.
If you like what you see hit go to the Join VF-17 Link (http://home.alltel.net/hensons/VF17/recruiting.html) and fill out the registration form and contact our Commander Tex01.
Hope to see you on board soon.

Same thing happened when I was the CO as well Tex. Don't worry after a little while they will not know who you are when you walk into the ready room except to say..."who is that?" and someone will respond with "thats the old man...don't tick him off!"
That is the way it was with me.

Fuselage shot of a Goodyear FG-1D showing off the reflection of a great sunset as another day draws to a close at EAA.
Chance Vought could not keep up with wartime demands, so production was also contracted to Brewster, designated F3A-1, and to Goodyear, designated FG-1.
Vintage Fighters FG-1D is painted to represent F4U-1A Corsair No.29 flown by Lt(jg) Ira C Kepford of VF-17 while on Bougainville in the February 1944 time frame.
Ira Kepford's first action came on November 11, 1943, downing three Val dive-bombers and a Kate torpedo bomber. January 1944 he became an ace, destroying two Zeke fighters near Rabaul. Two days later he downed four more Zekes, ending the war with a total of 19 confirmed, three Vals, one Tony, a Rufe and ten Zekes.

This Sunday and all future Sunday squad nights VF-17 will be trying something new. We will be tuning our squadron voxx to channel 117 and inviting anyone interested in finding out more about our squadron or those that are just interested in flying USN aircraft or possibly CV operations to join us and fly along for a couple hours.
You can find us in one of the Late War arenas Sunday nights at 8:30 pm EDT flying for Bish. So if you're interested just tune in and say hello and we'll get you hooked up.
<S> Hope to see you up!
-
You must have been talking to shifty. I was wanting to do just that I hope to see ya'll Sunday night. Looks like I might not be able to make it though b/c of my work schedule. <S> sir.
-
<S> to VF17 for some fun fights over around A5/A62 in LWBlue. Dodging passes from multiple high Corsairs can be quite harrowing. :salute
-
Well I am back with the Jolly Rogers and glad to be back in the saddle. So if you guys need an easy kill just look for me in any of the arenas.
-
LMAO, i cut mine the other day and your back in. go figure, maybe i can be back up in a few months. <S> VF17
-
:salute Shifty. Good flying with you, you got quite a few Russian scalps there. :rock
-
Thanks Boomer. It was a pleasure to fly with you guys today. Seriously I haven't enjoyed an afternoon of AH like that in some time.
I really appreciate you guys allowing me to take part in the scenario with you.

Hi, my game ID is Corsair, (I cannot believe that was still available) thanks for the invite yesterday to join VF-17 from reschke. Considering my online name and my preferred mount at the moment which is the F4U-1 as often as not in VF-17 colours. It does seem logical. The F4U is definitely a favourite of mine :airplane: even though it kills me more often than the enemy. Visiting the web site further whetted my interest.
But I doubt if it would make sense. First off I'm stranded on the wrong side of the Atlantic, so it would make for some really late nights or really early starts on squad nights, not that is too much of a problem normally except that my day job is as a jump pilot flying skydivers. Which means early starts, long flying days and much of the weekend away from the keyboard.
So I would be a poor squadmate, always AWOL and probably the first to be shot down in any action. I should really be called 'Dead meat'
Thanks again.
-
Shifty and bug, you have a great squad there, some very good people. Good luck and good times. CVA
