the vaught v-173 flying pancake was a experimental u.s. ground attack plane it was waffle shaped with 2 engines it was used in combat numerus times it proved pretty well with a armament of cannons rockets bombs etc but it should b perked at least over 50 (http://pancake)
-
Just FYI... any American aircraft without an A-, B-, C-, F-, P-, S- or T- designation was experimental and thus never saw combat.

They called it the Flying Pancake because it was waffle shaped? :huh
-
Yeah, they'd better call it the Flying Crêpe!
-
Nope, never saw combat. Though it would be funny.

We have a large display case here at work depicting past company programs. (OS2U, F4U, F7U <OK, so we're not so proud of that one>, F8U,A7, MLRS, ASAT). Can't find the word vaught anywhere.
The V-173 (two XF5U's were built, bit neither flew) showed promise, being very strong structurally, maneuverable, and supposedly having very low drag due to the low aspect ratio wing and prop placement. But the program ran way over schedule, and coming at the beginning of the jet age, it really didn't have a purpose.
Would be cool to approach the CV at ~20 knots relative speed though. :D

C, B, P, F ?

Surely the number of posts has nothing to do with his grammar?
Unless he has to learn English by posting here that is

Surely grammer or the lack of has nothing to do with the subject as long as he gets his point across, and folks who go to great lengths to show their "education" at the expense of others is reprehensible to me. Not mention that English might not be his first lang.

I believe he stated in another thread that he's only eleven. Personally, I chose to "lighten up" when I saw that, and just ran with the whole pancake, waffle, crêpe thing. :salute

Well I was unaware of his age, but to make fun instead of trying to "teach" is just plain offensive and the number of posts he has made indicate that is he "new" to the game, at least to me they do.
I am glad some you do realize that he is 11 and needs alittle latitude, a gentle nudge toward better gammar would have been suffiencent ;)

The French had airplanes?! :furious
They must have gotten them from the Canadian Navy.. :rofl
GOing in to hiding now... :noid
