Title: Tracking the history of a gun
Post by: Larry on March 16, 2009, 07:02:05 PM
I recently got a Russian Mosin Nagant 91/30 dated from 1943 and was wondering if there was any way to track the history of this gun. Mainly I would like to see if or where it saw action.

About all you can tell is where it was made, the Arsenal Stamps will tell you that.

My 91/30 is dated 1941, and it is a Izhevsk Arsenal.

find a physic, they will touch the gun and tell you everything.  but be warned, you may not like what you find.

There are multiple sites that are dedicated to the Mosin-Nagant rifle.  Do a search and you'll find them.  You will also be able to find how to trace the origins of the rifle (makes, dates, units, etc).  I found all kinds of info for both my Finnish and Russian Mosin-Nagants.  I dont have the sites linked, but they are out there for sure.  Ditto for Enfields, Mausers, Arisakas, Carcanos, Garands, etc.

http://7.62x54r.net/MosinID/MosinMarks.htm is a good site but Unit markings are hard to find, unless they were specifically scribed or etched by Ivan on the Battlefield.
