Title: Aviation Prints.... for sale, who wants?
Post by: Fangio on March 21, 2009, 06:53:53 PM
I am selling off a bunch of stuff....  in fact I am selling off everything I own that will not fit about my boat.  The family and I are moving aboard and setting sail for wherever the wind blows us later this year. So cherished possessions must go.

I have two aviation focused art prints for sale on ebay.

The first is "High Tide of Summer" and is signed by the artist and by General Gunther Rall.

The second is "Friendly Ordinance" by  Ronald Wong.

In the event this shameless, greedy, capitalistic and thus evil posting is not permitted.....  delete and shoot me.   :)

Sorry dude, but not for $250. I paid only slightly more than that for a signed limited edition Wade Myers. And less than that for a complete suspension for my car.

seriously signed by Gunther Rall??

That's impressive, it will either be snapped up by a collector hopefully, or a neo-nazi fanactic sadly.

I want it bad.  Rall is my favorite Luftwaffe personality and would cherish this.  Yet I am unable to afford 250.

I got in early on it.. well mid 90s..

Birthday present from the wife.  Great framing choice as well, the frame is wood and has the same color and pattern as the paint on the 109s.  I can post a picture tonight.  After the wife (museum curator) and I picked out the frame and she ensured it was going to have all the conservator based glass, backing, etc.. We came back to pick it up a week later and they had it on an easel in their front window on display, said they had several people stop in and look at it.  Its a real nice print.. darn cheeky of them though.

In addition to the artist this print was individually signed by TWELVE Luftwaffe fighter aces:

Generalleutnant ADOLF GALLAND (103 victories)
Hauptmann ALFRED GRISLAWSKI (133 victories)
Generalmajor DIETER HRABAK (125 victories)
Generalleutnant WALTER KRUPINSKI (197 victories)
Oberst EDUARD NEUMANN (11 victories)
Generalleutnant FRIEDRICH OBLESER (127 victories)
Generalleutnant GUNTHER RALL (275 victories, 3rd all time high)
Oberleutnant WALTER SCHUCK (206 victories)
General JOHANNES STEINHOFF (176 victories)
Generalleutnant HANNES TRAUTLOFT (57 victories)
Oberleutnant WALTER WOLFRUM (137 victories)

That's a great price for Hellfire Corner considering the print runs just below $1000 now. I spoke with Bill Phillips the artist at Osh Kosh one year and asked him why the 109 had yellow tips on the ends of the prop blades. He chuckled a bit and then told me at the time he painted Hellfire Corner he really didn't know much about aviation back when he painted it. I also asked him about his "Two Down One to Go" a very nicely painted P-51 ( Tuskegee) shooting down a 109. How can the German pilot be able to jut step out on the wing to bail out while the plane was flying at better than 200 mph. He also told me of that mistake anda couple of others. Bill is a very nice man and very down to earth.

Whatever you do stay away from Virginia Badder. Her name in the industry is not all that good.

Yeah I was really into aviation art then.  I got that one and Eagles over the Rhine.  My favorite was probably "Hot Pursuit" by Trudgian.  Got several others back then too.  Couple years ago I got a couple Wade Meyers prints.. including "One Man Air Force" and "Mustangs at Dawn" which is just a great print.

I have a copy of "Not my time to die" signed by Bob Johnson and the artist (who's name escapes me right now)

Also have "Thunderbolt Strike"- I think that's a Taylor.

And 2 Ken Fox pencils- P-51 Mustang featuring John Meyer and George Preddy of the 352nd FG, and P-47 Thunderbolt featuring Gabby.

And no, I'm not selling :)

Jim Laurier, same artist as Summer's Tide. He imo is a second tier aviation artist. I believe the print is sold out. Thunderbolt Strike is a Taylor and is still available. His latest P-47 print "Wolfpack is a a nicer print.

Another nice print is "Birth of a Legend" by Taylor.   I have the Knight's Cross Edition.  Signed by Erich Hartmann, Günther Rall, Hugo Broch, Hermann Buchner, Alfred Grislawski, Viktor Petermann, Ernst-Wilhelm Reinert, Edmund 'Paule' Rossmann, and Erich Rudorffer.
