Title: Why you don't want to land with only one wheel down.

Found this on youtube. Hope the plane wasn't too badly damaged and can be repaired.

Not that bad of a landing for having 1 wheel down.

Wow, I would seriously give my firstborn to see a G10 and 262 flying together like that.

Landing with 1 gear down seems like a bad idea, I'd rather go with both lowered or with none at all!
Preferably with both  :aok

Although that was quite a nice landing, was the pilot at all aware of the problem when he landed?

EDIT: I'll have to take my words back, damage to the aircraft would've been much greater if he'd land with no gear at all I think.

Actually, I think a belly landing on the grass would have been better off- still would have had the engine and prop damage, but not the wing and landing gear damage. Plus theres probably less of a chance of flipping over on a belly-in.

Then again, wouldn't you ruin your air-intakes/oil coolers on your belly?

What was comon practise for 1-wheel landings back in the days? Feather the prop so it wouldn't get damaged (as much) during landing? Was it at all possible to feather your prop on the 109?

A good thing those old warbirds have such a low approuch-speed, it would've been much worse with a modern plane!
