If you've participated in Fundraising activities in the past that were successful (either as an organizer or donor), I'd like to see your ideas.
I'm fixin to start some Fundraising for a Soldier's family. Their baby was born 4 months early. Some of the upcoming medical treatments aren't covered by military medical insurance ~ but it's only $4000, so that can be done with some small-scale fundraising.
Here's my own ideas ~ please post your own fundraising ideas. Once I get a full list I'm going to pick the one(s) that are viable in the amount of time.
1. Partner with Radio Station/Car Dealership. Ask the car dealership to sit one car out in their lot & allow donors to drop cash in it. As the radio station to broadcast from there at least once during a one month period.
2. Spaghetti Dinner (or something of the sort). Sell dinner tickets. Have donated items to give away as a draw-in.
3. I've already asked the local newspaper to cover whichever fundraiser we do.
Because this is a fundraiser for a specific family for their daughters medical expenses, anything which requires tax-exempt organization type of thing is out of the question.
Nickel & Dime fundraising ideas are welcomed too. Doesn't need to be large-scale. :)
Thanks for your ideas! :salute

Try and get some local grocery stores to kick you some brats, dogs, burgers, etc.. Wrangle up a couple grills, post them on both sides of the front doors at the local wally world. Put up pics of dad in uniform, and some signs explaining the situation.
On a lighter note given your avatar my first thought was this.

Two words: Poker Run.
Know any bikers? We are always eager to help children. I cannot think of nobler causes than helping children or soldiers.....but a child of a soldier?.....I'd be all over it. Get with some local bikers and see about organizing one. We are always ready to help.
If you need help, PM me. My club has several chapters in Texas.

Check some of your local chain restaurants to see if they do proceeds nights....
The whole brat/hamburger/hotdog thing in front of Walmart probably isn't a good idea
since they'll probably say no(due to some legality or liability issue) and you'll need a permit from your local government as well..
Car Washes with nice looking girls in bikini tops and shorts works pretty well! Could probably talk to some local service stations about that...
The nicer looking the girls, the more you can charge! lol

I worked for the great satan for a while after high school and there were quite frequently groups doing hot dog sales and such out front on the weekends. With all the bad press they get they seem to get in on local grassroots stuff as much as they can to fight the image. Hell, if there's a Wal-Mart in your town just call, and ask for the STORE manager and tell him the situation and ask if they would be willing to help in anyway.

My experience is with tax deductable organizations only. I am the President of the Board Of Directors for the Ross S Sterling Band Association.
A car wash might be a good one as I see those around here a lot. Get some like minded folks together make some banners, find a McDonalds or grocery store that will let yall use the lot and use the water and go for it.

Thank you so much for the great ideas! Keep 'em coming! =)

Night golf.
9 holes played with glowing balls. Glowing disks on the green tell the golfers where the hole is.
Captain's choice format...teams of 4 (playing together).
At each hole you sell booze, using volunteers.
You have a poker game going whereby each team buys a card from whichever 5 of 9 holes they choose. Best hand wins. (To prevent cheating the cards are marker by the volunteers and recorded).
I do this every year with a charity my partner is involved with...look forward to it every time.
You need to do it after the time changes (fall) to ensure it is dark early enough.

I would not try idea #1 of yours TM, simply because you will probably lose some of the money that is dropped inside of a new vehicle. I can not count how many times that I have heard someone say they have gotten all of the bills/change out of their vehicle, and there will still be upwards of $20 in change and bills still in it. You have to look up under the back seats under the front seats, any crack that money can fall into you should look.
But back to the fund raiser. You could try washing cars, offer to dry the vehicle off and shine tires.
You could get about $10-20 per vehicle that way.

I've always found extortion works the best. LOL
Barring that.
Raffles work well if you can find people or a store who maybe cant donate money, but can donate an item.
Tickets to a sporting event, or memorabilia often work real well.
But generally any desireable item will do
You can collect many times the items actual value that way
Too bad your not selling girl scout cookies
a few weeks ago the troop my daughter is in were doing the storefront deal.
sitting out in front of a grocery store asking people if they wanted to buy some cookies.
Anyway I had to drop hmy daughter off and decided to hang out for a few minutes and talk to one of the troop leader.
so Im watching the girls asking the people as they were going in. And the people going in. As is usual most either gave a polite smile and a "no thank you" or just outright ignored them. The sales were pretty few and far between and could see the girls were getting discouraged and possibly more important. Bored.
I decided to step in. "Girls. ya gotta have an angle. Watch."
As people were walking in I started saying "Girl scout cookies!" when they said no thank you or tried ignoring me I quickly followed it up with one of two lines.
"A free girl scout with every box"
Or the old Adams family line
"Made with real girl scouts!"
That made people laugh. It also tripled the amount of boxes of cookies sold.
Nobody took me up on the offer of a free girl scout though.
Seems its easier to sell cookies then girl scouts LOL
If you can make someone laugh, You can sell them almost anything.

I know lots of bikers. All the bikers around here are awesome :rock
But I've never heard of a Poker Run. Is that a bike ride with a poker game at the beginning middle or end?
-
Youtube advertising?
-
Frozen pizza sales
- find a local distributor to bars in the area, they usually charge 3 to 4 bucks a pizza, sell them for 6 to 8 bucks each. lots of people have no problem spending 6 to 8 bucks that will feed 4 kids, or to have that late night option sitting in their freezers. Brownie troop my girls belong to made almost 3 grand last year doing it.

Thanks so much for your awesome ideas everyone! :)

Hot Dog Sale's always worked for my Boy Scout Troop when I was younger. Now that I am older, I see plenty of other chruches and school orgs doing them.

50-50 raffles have always worked very well in my experience, particuarly in conjunction with another event. I helped with a fundraiser down in DC a while back that was a silent auction mixed with a 50-50 raffle. All the items in the auction were donated items with each donor given a little advertising space. So for example a restaurant would donate a $50 dinner card, which would realistically go for maybe $35-40. The host (you) gets $35, the buyer saves $15 bucks, and the restaurant gets name recognition and a potential future customer. The best item at the auction was a full custom made 3 piece suit from a really well known tailor here in DC, which was valued at 1,000 bucks. I think the guy who won it ended up with an awsome suit for $400 bucks or so.

You have a few good ideas here, and who says you can't string 2 or three of them together to reach the goal.
You didn't say what part of TX this is happening, but call the local radio station about 20 minutes after 10 AM and ask for the morning show hosts by name. Most likely they will take a message, but tell them you are raising money for a soldiers kid that's premature and the family can't pay all the medical bills without help and you are doing a fundraiser. The show host or a producer should get back to you. You might end up doing a 5 minute live interview about it--give the Who-What-Where-When-How, and how is how and where people can contribute.
Good luck and our thoughts and prayers are with them! :salute

Something the local MC used to do around here at the end of the poker run.........
Get some old Japanese bike from the scrap/junk yard (not smashed, but not running either). Get a sledge hammer.
Charge the Hog riders $1 or $2 per whack with the sledge. There will be a line a mile long.

I find it hard that TRICARE would not support a dependant even with a referal to a speacialist without covering the cost. Has the Soldier exhausted all of his resources?
The solution may be as easy as changing his Family coverage from TRICARE STANDARD to TRICARE PRIME. His Family Support at his base may even be able to help him further with that information.
My vote is a Poker Run and Raffle.

He's an active duty soldier, but Tricare still isn't going to cover the specific treatment they've been scheduled for in June (hyperbaric chamber). I don't know if Tricare insurance policies consider it 'experimental' or what their reasoning is. But Tricare has already definitively stated they will not authorize payment for that particular treatment, regardless if he was standard or prime.
Their daughter's problems are extensive enough that they're traveling to Dallas, San Antonio & Houston several times a month for appointments to see specialists for each problem, and those specialists are the ones prescribing the treatment that Tricare has already given the RedX for.
I'm definitely doing the Poker Run. Although, raffle & the bike smash are great ideas to include within the Poker Run. :)
I appreciate it so much!

Poker runs work well with boats, also if there are any recreational lakes or you are near the shore, etc.
We participate in at least one a year as we have a place down by the Chesapeake Bay.

The jap bike smash originated with old MCs that were strictly Harley Davidson. I've been to a few parties years ago where they threw a jap bike on a pile of logs and lit it off. All well and good, but I would not recommend that for a poker run event. I'm HD all the way, but there are alot of metric bikes out there, many of which will show up and support your cause. They may take it the wrong way of you bash one up as part of the event.
I would suggest smashing a car. A "cage bash" if you will. Anyone on 2 wheels has been wronged and/or nearly killed by a cager (car driver) at some point. I think that would go over well. I'd be all about smashing a cage up with a sledgehammer! :rock
