Title: Anybody fly the La-5?

As, with any regularity?

I have to think, even for our friends in the East, that the Yak-9 means NOBODY will fly this plane. That and the 109F, would be my guess as to the most unpopular planes without looking.

I've flown the La-5FN about 99% of the time, but now that we have the superior Yak-9U, I'm switching to the Yakovlev.  However, once the La-7 comes out I'll move back.

Hummm, dunno, XX. La5 is a good russian plane. I guess that Leonid, Cleaner, Gie...etc will use both a lot.

I flew Yak9 the other day in a H2H arena. IMHO it has awful lateral stability on the turning, the little ball dances like crazy from side to side!!! and that means dispersion...a lot of dispersion.

La5 is more stable and is VERY competitive low on the deck. I am sure that the GIAP will still fly it  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Any comparison with 109F4 isnt possible, as F4 is a 1941-42 plane, only comparable with C202 and SpitV.

Yesterday 308 flew a "russian" mission with 4 guys in La5s and 4 guys in Yak9s. Would have been even more fun, if it wasn't for the fact that I was killed by the ack just as I arrived over enemy field (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

I fly the La5 about 60% of the time, 20% typhy, 10%any other.

I love the plane, even though it is low on firepower it accelrates fast, climbs like a bat of hell, and handles very nice in highspeed situations.  I flew the Yak9, fun and will fly it.  Fast, manuverable, less firepower then the La5.  May percentage will drop to as follows.

45% La5, 15%Yak9, 20%Typhy, 10%whatever..

LONG LIVE the La5!!!
