Title: PRELUDE TO STALEMATE: OPERATION AVALANCHE FRAME 3 SCORE
Post by: Stoney on March 29, 2009, 08:26:43 PM
Ladies and Gents,

Another enjoyable frame.  Ground objectives resulted in an even tie with the Allies getting much better results from air to ground action than in the first two frames.  Additionally, some very crafty air to air work proved to be the difference, with the Allies pulling ahead.  Unfortunately, there were a handful of penalties.  The Germans went over the maximum for both 109G6s and Bf110s.  The Allies had 73 different players rearm at inactive bases.  While some allied players went to an active field and rearmed again, many of the allied players chose not to.

So:

Air To Air

Allied:  36.1
Axis:   28.1

Air To Ground

Allied:  23
Axis:   23

Subtotals:

Allied 59.1
Axis  51.1

Allies are penalized 5 points for the rearming violation
Axis is penalized 2 points for exceeding the aircraft maximums

Grand Totals:

Allies  54.1
Axis   49.1

On a side note:  Over the three frames, there was a significant amount of fratricide, with the Axis having the majority of it in the first two frames, and the Allies having almost all of it in the last frame--to the tune of almost 10 incidents per side per respective frame.  I typically do not count fratricide deaths towards either side's total A2A kills; however, if this trend continues I will begin penalizing for fratricide, and recommend to the other CMs that we do so for the duration of the event.  Most of the fratricide appears to have been bombers getting shot down by their own escorts, probably chasing bandits into the formation.  I recommend unit leaders come up with better escort procedures going forward.

[EDIT]  After reconsidering the penalties, I have decided to enforce the rearm penalty as it was defined in the objectives.  So, in lieu of an Allied victory, the Axis win the frame:

Allied   0
Axis    49.1

What counts was it was a fun frame.  With that in mind, I call it a tie.  50-50.  Salute Allies.   :salute

:salute  People need to read and understand the rules.

Was another fun FSO as always.  Looking forward to the next.

Great FSO Stoney, too bad it cost the Allies in Frame 3.

There was plenty of discussion on Country Channel about the active fields during the frame, I don't see how anybody could of missed it. The squads that violated the rules should be contacted.

Just as an FYI we had one squadie (the only one to survive) land dead stick due to an oiled engine at a field you could not rearm at.

Just went against his nature to ditch it off in a field when a runway was right there. He was not trying to circumvent the rules.

The fields were open for final landings, just not rearms.

The fields were open for final landings to be scored as a ditch, just not rearms.

I was a victim of fratricide in one of the frames.  I was working really hard to kill 4XTCH and so was a squaddie.  Fratricide is easy in the bombers since the arc of the guns may include friendlies flying in close formation with you.  Now for Escorts killing their own bombers.... agreed you should space that out a bit.  The other night I watch Pearl Harbor on TV.  I am told that not a single Japanese bomb fell on Honolulu.  However, 14 US Navy battleship rounds did... Mr. Murphy's laws of combat:  "Friendly Fire isn't."
