Thats a copycat move.
The move was a classic move by a swedish player called Kent Nilsson. It was his patented breakaway move in the 80s. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QobAlzxDdXc
In 1994 Peter Forsberg made that in the shootout in the Olympic final against Canada. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZIbLMBodWfw

Nice moves.

Sometimes the simple moves will confuse the elite. Lovely thinking on behalf of the player.
-
I wouldn't call that sick.
Unexpected, yes....the goaltender fell forward and was covering the bottom of the net. It was only interesting because he elected to shoot it so slow. He could have taken a regular snapshot into the top corner at any time. Goalie was overplaying the deke and low shot the second he went wide on the way in.

Well even still, it's an amazing penalty shot.. Most people's moves these days are a semi-copy of what someone else has already done anyways..

40 seconds in. This is the greatest of all-time. No "copy-cat" here.

Here is one for you and Dan ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MSDw3tMa7ec
7 minutes of PURE HOCKEY GENIUS !!! ... there is no other.
What most people don't know ... he was a defensemen !!! ... and one of the best in the NHL at that. His "offense" never really hampered his "defense" ... that's like playing both ways on a pro NFL team ... I think that I can safely say that any of the "greats" that followed Orr could never have played from the defense position and been "great".
There is one scene in there where he takes it all the way down behind the net ... dragging 4 players with him ... and who's watching the front of the goal ... :rofl ... flick ... SCORE and an assist.

This is the one I like.

The thing about Bobby Orr is he was so much better then the rest of them. You watch any of the videos and he's going around some of the best players ever and making it look easy. In the catch me if you can video he goes around 4 of my Minnesota North Stars, gets knocked down, passes from his back and hits his man who scores. Amazing, even if it was against the home team :)
It was a great time to be a kid and a hockey fan watching the big bad Bruins, the classy Canadiens, the blue collar Red Wings, and the new expansion teams just trying to win 1 play off game against the established 6. I remember well it was the North Stars who finally won a play off game against one of the original 6 when they took the Canadiens to 5 games and thought they'd extended the series when the buzzer sounded a second before Ted Hampson's shot went it behind Ken Dryden. Ahh memories :)
That give and go with Derek Sanderson where he scores the overtime goal against the Blues is unforgettable. The in flight photo being one of the most famous sports photos ever I think.
Maybe it's because I was paying closer attention, but the game seemed to have more 'personality' back then. I remember reading Derek Sanderson's book "I've got to be me" back then. He was the "Joe Namath" of Hockey with the long hair, the girls and the image.
It would be fun to watch some of those games again.
I was watching some other Orr stuff and I remembered how it was a sign of our hockey 'knowledge' as a kid to have our stick with that single black strip of tape just like Bobby Orr. Was fun to remember that :)

The sign of great players is that they always seem to have much more time handling the puck then other players. They always have that extra meter of space.
Never looking at the puck and always making that little move, that slight adjustment in direction to keep separation from defenders.
But the level of split vision Orr had is in a league of its own. Very few players through out history have had such a great vision of the rink.

That was a good one Dan !!!
I was lucky enough to have a Dad who was director of purchasing for a large manufacturing company. His job resulted in many premiere tickets to Boston Garden and Madison Square Garden, so I got to see all those guys play live.
-
I grew up with my father watching Red Wings games and I'm now a Canucks fan (I'll root for the Wings as long as they don't play the Nucks). But Orr epitomized what this thread is about. My father always said "Orr was the best." He'd sneak into the Red Wings games at Olympia and see Howe, Sawchuk, Able, Delvecchio and others.
