I can read the Sunday morning headline now "U.S. Navy thanks Kim Jong-il for successful ballistic intercept practice".

Taepodong - 1: A ladies best friend. 2: A long cylindrical object carrying a large payload and heading to the final frontier.  3:  A long cylindrical object carrying a large payload that explodes upon arrival at destination.

Nice name for a missile.

Guess you missed the part in history class that taught we've (the US) already been at war with N. Korea since 1950 (I know we're not really, but technicalities are technicialities).  If that thing so much as "malfunctions" and tips its nose in the general direction of NATO territory, it and the facilities it was launched from are dust.  We won't do anything else further than that though with China around the corner (although as I understand it China isn't that happy with N. Korea nowadays, but everyone knows they are even less friendly to the idea of a neighboring country being occupied by foreign forces), but we probably wont shoot it down if it actually gets airborn and looks like it won't be a threat.

This is interesting. I understand the U.S. side, as we haven't been talking to N.Korea for quite some time now... But what if it was an ally of the U.S. testing their ballistic missiles, uh I mean satellite launching? Would we be warning them too?

So in some way I can see why N. Korea would be threatening anyone wanting to shoot down a project (Satellite, Missile or whatever) that's been in the works for many years, and costs them billions.

I guess we will find out soon enough. I just hope for their sake and ours, it is what they say it is....

Thanks for posting the updates BigBOBCH

Oh no, not North Korea.
Russia isn't really in a position to back them up anymore (at least against a major country like the United States) and my impression of Chino-Korean relations is that they are rather strained, though I may be wrong...

I'm waiting for N.Korea to declare war on Canada, Panama, and the Galapagos Islands. Would make about as much sense as anything else they do.

For some reason, i'm not apprehensive in the least about N.Urea.
Saber rattling dimwit running a country that has enough nuclear subs watching it to keep him in check.
I'm sure he knows this.

I could be wrong and he may do somthing really stupid, but I don't see him benefiting from a confrontational missle launch.
If it is a satellite, he should be allowed to place it in orbit as many other countries have already done so.(We can always destroy it later)

Just my opinion

I just wonder if it is indeed a communication satellite, how long it will be before we can talk too the youth and people in N. korea and tell them and show them how bellybutton backwards and hogwash they're entire nation has become.

Time to put a few hundred mcdonald's in n.korea. :rock

This is probably a fairly accurate description of what it's like to live in North Korea..
http://www.reuters.com/article/worldNews/idUSTRE52F5VW20090316 (http://www.reuters.com/article/worldNews/idUSTRE52F5VW20090316)

What else can the rest of the world do but allow North Korea to "Juche" itself into oblivion?
The government there is delusional..  The government there censors ALL media except for
that which it produces itself (state run news, television, papers, radio, etc).

Children are taught a grossly inaccurate version of history in the DPRK.
Somehow, even though they are starving and dwarfed due to malnutrition,
they are taught to believe they have it better than everyone else in the world......? :huh

It's a sad situation there....  Hopefully they will just shrivel-up like a cold scrotile pouch(try that one auto censor word changer thingy!) and just vanish..

I had a friend who served right on the border in the late 80's and talked about being shot at as well as shooting back..
DPRK guys would taunt them in Engrish, firing guns into the air..

Lets keep in mind.  There are a lot of ppl in N. Korea that are not like the morons that run the country.  I am sure many N. Koreans want to get out knowing how life is better in south Korea.
If we do have to re-open war with them, Japan will be there in full force to take them on.  This might be one war that we will not need the Brits help.

it could well be........but i'm forced to repeat my question? we're supposed to fear them?

i don't care HOW much sabre rattling they do. that's all it is. even the dumbest of leaders are smarter than to actually use nukes these days. they know it would be the end of them.

they're just like the little annoying dogs in your neighborhood that no one pays any attention to. they want attention, so they do whatever they feel will get it for them.

Not sure if you remember from school but NATO stands for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization    Key words, North Atlantic i.e. European countries. Japan, South Korea, all the Asian countries we're friends with are NOT members of NATO.

The UN is drafting a strongly worded letter, it'll be finished in about 3 months and taking a commission costing millions of dollars to write it.

I'm sick of us just yelling at them, expecting them to stop. Its a waste of time. Something needs to be done.

We can't just keep ignoring them. In 50 years they might actually have enough nukes to do some damage. Take them out now while they're still helpless. I'm not fond of killing civilians but those in NK are brainwashed beyond help.

Well, Russia is investigating whether a letter should be written at all, and China is urging restraint in the letter writing.  So maybe the threat of a retaliatory war of letter writing fury will be averted.

In other news, President Obama is simultaneously proposing that we cut military spending 25%, stop buying anything new for the military, and unilaterally get rid of our entire nuclear deterrent.  That's a historic recipe for success right there.

Imagine what 1 40cal semi-auto pistol leveled at Kim Jong Il's right temple could accomplish.... :devil

I would have the biggest baddest ex-con I could find to sodomize him live on the DPRK news channel
while singing the Star Spangled Banner....

I'd call the first day of liberation "Pee on anything Kim day"..  The streets would flow with urine of which the world has never seen....
The Yellow Sea would be named rightly so..

F KIM JONG IL

Gents, I grew up in Romania during the Ceasescu era..  I witnessed many things that to this day I have a hard time believing actually happened..
These people in North Korea have it worse than we did in Romania..  And we had it pretty bad..
Somehow, someway, something needs to be done..

This is actually a problem that stems from China as well..  In China's eye's, the DPRK needs to exist
in order to have a buffer zone between a westernized country and itself..  China forks over a little spending capital to ol' Kimmy to keep him and his cronies in
power..  The DPRK now has an entire indoctrinated generation of people living under it's iron hand.  There is no one left who has any notion of free thought or
individualism.  This is from the upper echelons all the way to the homeless.  An entire populace programmed in such a way that EVERYONE is a spy and will turn in
anyone for anything negative said of the "Great Leader"  or "Dear Leader"..  People defecting from North Korea make it to the South and have no concept at all
on how to function.  Banks, Washing Machines, even 24hour Electricity is something these people had no clue existed.

We in Romania lived much the same way..
I had an Uncle that was kidnapped by the Securitate and we did not hear from him for 3 years, assuming he was dead..  We had no clue what happened to him..
Finally, one day he walks in to my grandmothers house looking like a concentration camp inmate..  His suit that they kidnapped him in was falling off and even the 1st
notch on his belt could not hold them up...  He was an architect.  Ceausescu had him taken, locked him up, and forced to design a new palace for him...After which he was
forced to labor on after he had designed it..  On television and the newspapers, it was said Ceausescu himself designed the "State Building"....

I truly feel for these people in the DPRK, no matter how indoctrinated or brainwashed they are...
