Just saw in W. Green's "warplanes of The Third Reich" that 109K-4 with ASCM engine could do 378 mph on the deck.
If this is true, combined with great acceleration, could we have quite good perk catcher (at least speed wise) ?
P.S.
Yea, yea, Funked, I know all about our G-10 doing 452mph high up there, as K-4 did, but on the deck it seems 15 mph slower.

K-4 = fastfliegen dartenwagen.

Is that the K-4 with the MG 151 in the cowling? (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

Aaghhhh, some day someone is going to find one that had them And then Luftwaffe shall have its revenge (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif).
OK, the general opinion is that W. Green is wrong about cowl guns (and hub MK 103, most likel

Funked, the chart shows deck WEP speed somewhere around 360-365 mph. 378 is better, you will agree.

We already have the 109K-4 in AH. They just call it a G-10 and didn't give it its 15mm cannons.
Make it slightly slower on the deck and signifigantly slower at altitude, and we would have a G-10.

Please read the thread carefully before replying. is it so hard ?

No 15mm cannon in K-4, that's another William Green fantasy. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Thanks for correcting me about the 15mm cannon. Can you provide some "proof"? I know some people who might be interested in this. Shall I assume that the K-4 had the normal 12.7mm guns in the cowling?
K-4's had the 30mm spinner-mounted gun as a standard weapon, correct? Were any made with a 20-mm spinner cannon?
That matter aside, I'll still say AH has a K-4 badged as a G-10. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

i fly 109's all the time, and i cant wait to fly it on AH but i think that its main roal would be killing strato-buffs, or boom and zooom, like the g-10 it is very powerfull, and very hevey, so turnfighting would be not wize in this plane

It's generally agreed that the MG 151 was never installed in the cowling of the Me 109. This has been refuted on many message boards and websites, although I'm not sure if it has been dealt with in print. The gun is simply too large. The weapon used in the K-4 cowling was the MG 131. 13mm caliber, not 12.7mm.
Click here for the most knowledgable board I have found for issues like this. (http://disc.server.com/Indices/3051.html) I'm pretty sure you would get a satisfactory answer if you asked there.

This page (http://www.xs4all.nl/~rhorta/wg6.htm) shows the G-6 with 131 in the cowling and 151/20 behind the engine. Try to picture it with a pair of 151 in the cowling. I'm not sure the pilot would be able to see over them, and the barrel would be sticking way out. There's nothing like this visible in photos of the K-4.
Here is the armament diagram for the K-4. (http://www.xs4all.nl/~rhorta/wk4.htm) My understanding is that the MG 151/20 was used behind the engine on this plane as well.

The prototype K series with the 2 Mk 108's in the wings would be interesting, as would the ones with the engine mounted Mk 103M's...regardless of of reliability (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Tony Williams has written an article about Me 109 armament on www.bf109.com. (http://www.bf109.com.) (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
On that AH G-10 chart the s/l WEP speed is at 368mph, 10mph slower than Green's K-4 speed - which is because of the retractable tailwheel and mainwheel inner doors on the K-4?
-
Oooh excellent article: http://www.bf109.com./twgunsarticle.html (http://www.bf109.com./twgunsarticle.html)
-
All K-4 had the 30mm as standard armament, tho this doesnt exclude possibility of 20mm mount.
-
This thread diverted from its original path.
The keyword should be: deck speed of K-4.
Thanks (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

Grunherz,
I could be wrong but recall first few K-4s came with 20mm engine cannon. It's in Prien's book if I recall right.
