I am curious if anyone could suggest a game for me? I like to play offline games here and there. Is there a game you would suggest I try based on the following list of games I have had in the past and absolutely loved to play?
Total Annihilation
Heroes Of Might And Magic Series (Prefer the older ones, up to Heroes 4, thought 3 was best)
Age of Empires
I don't care for great graphics or complicated gameplay. I like games with several different scenario's to choose from where you start with little or nothing and build your army, or empire from there. Give me something to check out, again, doesnt have to be the latest or greatest but something fun and intriguing.
Thanks.

My favorite is Kohan II. $10 or less on Ebay. A lot like Age of Empires, but you don't have to worry about your workers all the time. It is my favorite RTS game and it is the game I play the most when I am not flying Online (and I have AOE and AOM). Make sure you visit the support sites and download the patches and the player created AI. They make the game much more challenging.

Give Combat Mission a shot. It's pretty awesome. You control small troop enguagements over punctuated increments of realtime. Once you give your orders, whatever happens is what happens. It's really great to have an ambush work out well, and truly heartbreaking to see a squad or two get wiped out in one. The way they do the armor and arty and all is pretty excellent. It's fun!

Supreme Commander (is a system hog)
Company of Heroes and expansion Opposing Fronts
Rome Total War / Medieval II / Empire Total War

They also have one called Empires of Steel but it's not available yet.

I would recommend Empire: Total War, but not for some time. Buying it now is like playing Russian roulette. *Some* people have experienced no technical problems, but the forums are full of people who are ripping their hair out over all the difficulties associated with getting the game to work for more than 10 minutes. Hopefully, in a few months buying it won't be such a gamble, and when it is working, it is great.
For now, try the Rome: Total War and grab yourself one of the mods like Rome Total Realism, SPQR, and Extended Greek Mod. I've loved the first two, and heard great things about the last.
Best of all, you should be able to pick up the game's gold edition for about $20.

Empire Earth is a good one aswell, pretty much AOE with more 3D.
can start at stone age and work up to futuristic. Quite a good game, not sure about mods but im sure they are out there. nor do i have any input on the campaign since all i did was skirmish like AOE. should be quite cheap since it was released in 2001.
as for medieval (mind you its an RPG) Mount & Blade is a pretty fun game, the combat is just awsome with horseback or run in with your men.
heres wiki for EE http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Empire_Earth_(video_game) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Empire_Earth_(video_game))
and this is for mount and blade http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount&Blade (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount&Blade)
well i didnt know it went retail (last time i played it was still in public beta) so maybe its not free anymore but id still suggest picking up the demo.
