I'm certain this has been brought up before, but I kind of like the idea. I'd like to see fatigue from pulling G's when in a dogfight, I think it would really change the dynamic of dogfighting in-game, and we'd see more realistic situations as people try to pace themselves. I wouldn't want to see fatigue form long flight times however, since most people already don't like flying a long ways as it is, and it would probably make them even less common. After pulling a "normal" amount of G's for a certain period of time, your fatigue would recover just like your muscles would in real life (to an extent, of course).
However, I see problems with this because of the ability to constantly respawn after being shot down would leave those that have been in the fight for a while at a disadvantage.
Thoughts?

How about a "fatigue meter" somewhere? Like a Health Remaining meter in MMORPGs. Not part of the aircraft but part of the pilot.
The lower it gets, the slower your reactions get. Delayed input to controls or views and the like.
But you know me, I'm totally against it and think you're stupid. :huh ;)
wrongway

I could see this becoming an annoyance very fast. Its hard enough to dogfight with black out/red out as it is.

I second that motion :lol

Hehe.
Btw, have you guys played America's Army? In that game there's a fatigue/out-of-breath type of thing that occurs. When you sprint and then drop prone and try to take a shot with the sniper rifle, for example, for a short time, as you catch your breath, the crosshairs kind of wander around a little. It's a nice touch actually.
You read these stories of air combat in WWII and it's described as something very physically demanding. These guys were pulling bigtime Gs in planes they were were controlling by hand, often with no hydraulic boost or whatever on the controls, and it took a lot of strength. After a prolonged period of combat in this game it would be kind of cool to see little signs of fatigue come into play, a little sloppiness at the controls, maybe being unable to hold quite as many Gs in a turn or whatever.
-
Yeah- I've read some describe actual WWII dogfighting (aggressive dogfighting that is) as being about physically outlasting the opponent as much as outsmarting them.

My wifes grandfather used to fly f6fs. He has described a lot of this kind of physical demand. Mostly he has said its something words can't seem to capture. With or without altitude advantage he describes his mental state of mind mixing with his physical state and even noticing his breathing pattern change at the sight of a possible enemy. He says its like a switch going from one mode to another. To try and mimic that in here when everyone went through their own different way of getting into the zone would be a bit hard to harness here. This is coming from a guy who in his 20s was chasing the japanese for keeps. He is now in his 80s and looks like that Joe wieder workout guy. When I see him when we go to visit its like having coffee with a small version of a silver back gorilla. His description of how things were couldn't be put in a game with accuracy I don't think. I see some merit in what you are wishing for but on a sortie by sortie basis. Correct me if I have you wrong here. You take off for a sortie. You have a strength bar for example. When you start pulling a lot of g forces it goes down. You level out and it stops dropping. While level it comes back up to a certain extent? Using a bar as an example here is all. Would you want someting like that on your screen or just something like that in the background like the blackouts run?

There was a Russian bomber, I forget the model, that was often flown by female pilots, and I read a description where it was so physically hard to pull the yoke back enough to take off when it was fully loaded that the pilots would often need the gunner or whoever it was to stand behind them and help pull them back, just to get off the ground. I don't think it's possible for us who are only cartoon pilots to really appreciate this kind of physical flying that they did.

Im all for this, in a way..
have the fatigue meter be effected by Gs.. I.E. if your just cruising your fatigue is unaffected.. pulling high positive or negative Gs effects far more than more gentle maneuvering..
fatigue can "regenerate" during times of low stress flight..
think twice about stick stirring like a tard.

Hey, there's another benefit! :)
I would think that you'd want it to just kind of 'happen'- you'd 'feel' it through the sluggishness of responsiveness in game and through reduced G tolerance. IMO any kind of HUD looking thing just looks stupid.

how about do it like DOOM, you have a little guy's head that makes odd grimacing faces depending on the "health" state :lol :lol :lol

You do realize that once you start blacking out it becomes easier to black out on your next high g pull?

of course, but have you noticed that extreme NEGATIVE G maneuvers for prolonged periods have no effect on your positive G tolerance? and that your positive G tolerance "reset" occurs after only a few seconds of level flight.

Well i don't think so because people would have to learn a whole new style of fighting and this might deter them from playing.
-
I in no way would want to have a bar on the screen, and I'm not talking about extreme changes when one becomes fatigued, but I think it could change the gameplay a bit. I feel it would add a completely new dimension to the fight and could add that "I don't want to pull g's unless I have to" attitude that I'm sure pilots had at the time, as it is not a comfortable experience.

People quit playing because they have to learn something new? Bummer...
P.S. I think the game is fun and challenging as-is so really don't think this is a necessary addition, just sounds like it could be an interesting addition.
P.S.S. It's okay wrongway, I think you're stupid as well. :P

:huh Can you say GAMEY? :huh

You do realize that once you start blacking out it becomes easier to black out on your next high g pull?
That is fatigue caused by excess G forces, not strenuous physical activity.
I like the idea of adding in some type of fatigue feature that mimics more activity = delayed reaction times or other such anomaly (lower G backouts, delayed secondary actions, etc).

News Flash!
Many of us addicts who put in a rediculous number of hours, staying up way too late, are fatigued for real. Modifying the code would be redundant. :)

Maybe we should request code that simulates carpal tunnel syndrome for the pilot who has been playing too long. Their cartoon pilot would experience trouble holding onto the controls, shooting pains causing jitter, etc. :devil

If you're gonna go that route, then why not add the voice of a "back-seater" nagging you to take the trash out, drink less beer, go to bed, etc.? :D

dumb, de, dumb, dumb................dumb, de, dumb ideeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeea.

I wanna see how much mana i have left, if enough i can spawn the dragon's father's sord of holy wisdom and i'll get +2 at "zomg" factor. On-topic, stupid. delayed imputs? i most of the times never have a sortie more than 40 minutes long..let's say one h tops (in a fighter)...from that 40 minutes..10 climb 20 fight 10back home to refuel/land. And when i refuel do i get full "fatigue meter" again? if not, really crappy....after 2-3h of takeoff/refuel my pilot will act like being on something.
-
I figured that this might be taken this way, you guys need to stop seeing this as something like "mana" or whatever that is. There was no mention of a fatigue bar or anything like that. I wasn't talking delayed inputs (would get annoying), but perhaps a lesser ability to throw around the stick the more you get fatigued (not slower, but just not as much strength). It wouldn't be obvious and extreme, it would be exactly as you'd think in real life, you'd get tired pulling G's for a long time. Of course these pilots are in much better shape than the majority of us, so it would take a while for them to get tired. Would also lessen extreme stick stirring.
Also, there is no reason to call someone or their idea dumb or stupid, just say you don't agree and post why. Keep the conversation mature.
Don't imagine this will ever get implemented, just wanted to see what you guys thought about it.
