Ran into another horde today, I need a good read or some advice for beating the horde without taking a P51 up to 20k to pick them all.
looking for strategies anything that may help :salute

you don't "beat" the horde junky, you can do your best to slow it down but if it is just you, they will get what they want eventually.
My best advice is if they have been killing hangars with buffs get yourself a 262 and find the base they are coming from, harass their buffs so they cannot kill hangars = the chance to get squaddies/ friendlies to help. If you can get a furball started and prevent the bombers from getting in they will usually go elsewhere.
If you need to kill fighters the tempest has to be the best plane from 0-15k for this. Then if all else fails use the spit 16 and dodge as many guys as you can, do your best to drag them all to deck so that friendlies have a better chance of getting up.
Reading the map and intercepting them before it is hopeless is critical.

Get an arse load of R and rope all of them. :D

If you mean E...Either last tour or the tour before I went into a 15 plane horde all by myself...died with like 8. Make a long story short..i came in maybe 5k above them..made a few passes then went up to rope the other cons that were coming toward me...needless to say I roped 5 of them and killed 3 in one pass :lol

i fly against multiple cons regularly but almost never land kills. However I do tend to get a couple kills in the process. I think most times that is about the best you will do against the horde.
A few tips for this
1) SA is of utmost importance. you need to know what is around and where they are. it is difficult to do and i tend to loose a few cons in these battles but knowing the most immediate threats will help. YOU MUST KEEP YOUR HEAD MOVING AT ALL TIMES
2) change targets repeatedly. dont get target fixation, you are more predictable this way. if you keep them guessing then they won't know where you are going next
3) if you get a shot take it but don't work too hard for it, see tip #2
4) get in there and have fun mix it up. some of the most fun i have had in AH has been fighting the horde and dieing with a few scalps to my name.
5) dont set your hopes too high, you most likely wont land your kills (if you get any). this is toughest part (i think) but if you can control this you will find a great deal of fun in this tyoe of activity
this is just a few things that i have picked up by going into these situations

If it is any more than 4 I never expect to survive. I will usually take it low and go straight out defensive. I will take a shot if they cross my sight but won't look for it. I will instead do all I can to make them auger or kill shoot themselves. This doesn't work always but it does work for me and I will usually have one con do it before I am towered. Really is satisfying when a big name makes a mistake :D

like others have said, there is no beating the "hourd",
BUT it sure is fun trying, this is how I fly, always have, the best planes for fighting the hourd down and dirty are,
spit 16
hurri2c
zero, (although you must be able to avoid)
LA7
the best I have done is around, 14 attacking me, I killed 7 of them and the rest left, That was in the hurri2C,
dkf49
said SA is the most important, and he is dead on correct, but you got to also be able to judge E states and who is the biggest danger to you, try to conserve your E as best as possible, IE; only avoid and do hard maneuvers when necessary, take the shots as they come and don't get fixated,
and when the Hourd starts to whine about you being a Hurri dweeb, or a Lgay dweeb, smile cause you are beating the hourd, even when you die.

Most important is good deflection shooting. You are almost certainly not going to make it out, if you don't hit *every* available shot and take few with you, you'll just end up frustrated by the situation.
Really, shooting is the single most important skill for MA success if you can already take off, land, somewhat manage your throttle and fly a pursuit curve. You rarely get time to wear'em down and get right on their bumper pounding away.

The ones that get out alive are in something fast and run away, but I got some big things between my legs so I dont do that :aok

If you fight the horde without the ability to disengage, you will die every time. A horde to me is odds of say..... 8 to 1 or worse. Go ahead and get killed by the horde in your slow plane; you are so brave. *snort*
As far as getting out alive.... please tell me what plane can gaurantee that. I fly the 51 and it is relatively fast, except when compared to late war rides. I frequently find myself having to "do some of that pilot stuff" to get out alive. Even then, there's not much point in getting out alive if you don't have a few pelts in your bag.

Glad that was helpful.

This film shows a good example of "putting your opponents next to each other" so you can fight them more like one opponent.
In this film I'm trying to extricate myself from a swarm, but I'm going to be caught by an LA7, followed by an F4U. I'd love to kill the LA, but turning with him will get me killed by the F4U who's 2K behind the LA. What do you do? One, I get as far from the swarm as I can, so the fight will stay just 2v1... Then, as the LA closes to firing range, I do a bit of a scissors to get him out of sync, and allow the F4U to catch up. I don't really commit to the scissors though, I'm going to need my speed...
At about 30 seconds in I'm doing a couple things- waiting for my two opponents to "become one", scanning the skies (a P38 that doesn't seem to be a factor, and some friendlies who don't seem to know I exist), and running like heck. That's important, because I want them to be WEP'ed and chasing hard, foaming at the mouth for an easy kill; it makes the overshoot so much easier... Once I have that, I take the easiest opportunity to kill one; but if I miss I'll be changing my flight path again, I'm not going to get fixated... Now one is dead, and the other is in trouble, hehe. He augers; blacked out? looking back at me?
'Course, I could have hollered for help...
