Just curious to see if there is anyone around the forums here who has any sort of old army truck or collection going. Anything, like old army jeeps up to armored vehicles, or even aircraft.
I have a collection, which can be viewed by clicking on the link in my signature. The photos are very outdated as I am too lazy to update them (maybe I will this week).
-
What dose it take to start a collection, besides money.
-
I'd love to have a little collection. I'll wait to see your updated photos. very cool :aok

OMG an M3 <3.
I'm sure you've probably already seen this, or are a member there, but in case you haven't.

A place to keep em, and some more money.
-
Yeah, money and space helps! But if you're willing to do some work on your own as well as spend some time and money, you can find a fixer-upper cheap. A lot of old army jeeps, for an example, are found in barns. Many can be bought surplus, but those usually need some work too.
Haha, Steel Soldiers... There's a picture of my M37 up there that someone else took the day I drove it out of Fort Drum! I like that site.
Is there a way to upload my pictures onto the forums somewhere?

You need to host them somewhere, I prefer http://imageshack.us/ (http://imageshack.us/) because you don't have to set up an account. Then when you are making a post copy the URL's of where the pictures are hosted, and click the "insert image" icon and past the URL there. The "insert images" is the icon under the "B" for bold.

I guess that will have to do then. For those of you who are too lazy to click on my signature... :P

These pictures are somewhat outdated. The halftrack and the M37 both have new coats of paint. The M37 now has the late model marker lights and tail lights that are present on current-production military vehicles. I will try to update them soon!
If anyone is wondering, they all run, and run very well, although the M37 is due for a carburator rebuild. Halftrack gets about 2 miles/gallon at its current weight of 13,750 lbs and at a speed of about 40 mph.

I just would like to have Tiger II to keep the neighbor dog off the yard.

For a while I worked as a volunteer at one of the local museums. Several of the soldiers who worked there had their own vehicles. Until I saw them w/their vehicles it never occurred to me to just buy one & restore it.
I just may do that. :) What kind of tootle around town car can you think of that's better!?!

Looking at buying a late 1940's - early 1950's Willys jeep here locally. The guy hasn't returned my phone call yet but I have stopped and spoken with him about it recently and he wants to let it go for a cheap since it needs to have some interior work to make it really driveable. I don't have all the information on it yet since he has not called me to come by and take a closer look.
-
Does anyone else hear the A-Team theme start playing when they look at that 1952 Willy's and the M37?
-
I've scrounged up some more pictures of the halftrack and one with the M37 with new paint jobs. A lot of the newer pics are on a different computer and have yet to be transferred. Anyways, enjoy!

I'll try to get a better picture of the M37 soon.
EDIT: All of my pictures disappeared for some reason :huh Stupid Geocities, may upgrade soon...

I still want a Greyhound someday. Or a Sheridan. Something relatively small and fast.

Went to the local museum & saw all the little (and big) vehicles today. I do like the little ones the best though, the jeep variations, m8, m3, m16. :D
Babalonian, I do like the one you posted. I don't think our little museum has one of those.
I bet a few of those modified on a paintball course would be awesome. :)

Yeah, but then you got to wonder who's going to have the most fun, the driver doing most of the work or the gunner? The thing was deisgned to be fast and to take a real off-road beating.
Idealy I can see using one to drive around town, you can strap a kid or two (or one unsuspecting date/friend) into the un-armed turret and enjoy doing barrel-rolls and bouncing down hills at 50mph to avoid traffic jams, and at the same time scare the bageezus out of your helpless passengers.

My reenactment unit has 2 WW2 jeeps and a 'Nam-dated deuce. Only the truck is running right now, but at least we have a ride.

Nice trucks! I hope you guys get all of your vehicles running. I used to own a 1952 GMC M135 deuce.
Take care of them ;)

At age 26 I almost bought this exact Power Wagon for a Daily Driver. This is it (I had a different picture but found this on the internet).
A WC-26 Carryall from 1941 is what I almost bought from a guy in California and was going to drive it back to Michigan. It was Metallic Green, 35" BFGoodrich (modified original wheels), boat canvas top, sides and back (black). Electrics converted to 12 volt. Only needed a bench for the back.
Wife shot it down. I regret not getting it, it fits my personality to a tee. One day I'll get a power wagon. The guy only wanted $10,000 for it back then.
Edit: I had a different picture, but this is the Power Wagon I was looking at back in 1999.

If you're ever passing through Indiana, Fred's a really nice guy- he let me and a buddy show up on an off-day and wander around for an hour. Lot of cool stuff, -M3, M8, IJA tank, river boat, motorcycles, tanks, some self propelled guns, etc. I've been saying I'd get a digicam and get back there for a few years now, but I haven't been able.
Not mine, but man do I wish...
-
That's a nice truck you were looking at. Too bad the wife didn't agree, but don't feel bad because that happens to a lot of collectors...
-
I've always wanted a Willys MB. Here is a great link to military vehicle collectors/restoration. Fun peeps.

That's a great forum. There's a lot of people there that can help with a lot of different trucks, from jeeps to armor.
