Looks interesting and fun..
The character animation is amazing...

But the type of customization they allow kind of wrecks it for any WWII theme..

It may be a diversion worth maybe five minutes... beyond the download and that much time I doubt I would like it much.

For christ sake its free and cartoon based fun, how bad could it be (or great?)

If its anything like teamfortress2 ill play it for a little while, the vehicals and airplanes will make it more worthy, but i doubt you will find things like aces highs realism.

Dont look for easy skilled one shot head shots to kill people int his game, its for fun, you point you click they migth* die if you put enough DPS into them.

but again, its free..so who cares.

Did anyone else notice on the ratings screen in the beginning of the first clip
T for teen "Violence, Tobacco Reference"

They have to put a warning because of a mere reference to tobacco now??

Well, you know parents these days. They always look for a way to blame others for their own shortcomings. And in the process they will obviously look for a way to make some money....

It's also going to be using a micro-transaction business model which basically means it is going to have an item mall to generate revenue.  You will be able to buy costumes and other cosmetic features that wouldn't be normally available until you've 'leveled' up your character though you will not be able to buy weapons from the item mall.

Which is good. I played VCO for about 6 months and they had an item mall where you could buy stat enhancing items for real cash. Some people would spend 3-4k USD a month (which is sad) to enhance their characters to INSANE levels. Those of us who didn't pay or didn't pay much were unable to compete against them. Their ships, crews, and characters could wipe out entire fleets of non-enhanced characters with ease and this ended up causing me to quit. I was not going to spend a ton of money on fake items just to beat someone in a game, it's worse than gambling.
/rant off
Anyway I would spend some small cash to help support the game and get some cool uniforms, but if they start adding weapons for sale then expect it to go down hill.

Thank you for that information, it is this very reason i will not be playing this game, online games these days are all about drawing you in, getting you involved have you then dumping way more $ per week or month than you EVER would playing aces high.

Money pit. :furious

But you don't have to spend any money and it won't put you at any disadvantage over someone that does use the item mall.  All that will be available are customs that you would get eventually when you 'level' up your character.

Remember the NDA vic.  From what I hear the items you buy will have a time limit on them like most free to play FPS games.

Trust me I would love to pick your brain about the game but since it is still under the NDA I will refrain.

You can either buy the items or 'rent' them for a short period of time.  The latest issue of PC Gamer has a preview of BF Heroes and BF 1943 that explains how they plan on using the item mall.

BF1943???? Be still my heart.... *crosses fingers that they don't follow in their recent debacles of BF: 2142 and BF: Bad Company* (Bad Company is a fantastic game, but the "squad" matching stuff sucks hard. It's so frustrating to join a game from someone on your buddy list and then be stuck on a different team, or on the same team but not in the same squad, or to be on the same team for one round and then be autobalanced to the other team!!!!!!! grrr....

BF 1943 is basically a redone BF 1942, with Wake, Guadacanal and Iwo Jima as the three maps.  They've also gotten rid of some of the classes, like the medic class and consolidated a couple into one.  It also only going to put a cap at 24 players.

excitement = gone. The classes were what made the game so great. Even if you weren't a great twitch gamer you could still be a helpful member of the team. In BF: Bad Company, being a medic seemed more like a secondary skill. I don't know how many times I'd stand in front of a medic, jumping up and down trying to get him to realize he could throw me a med kit (only squad members could voice chat, and there was no way to control which squad you were in). On more than one occasion I actually pulled out my pistol and shot a lazy medic once. Of course that always reminded him to pull out a med kit (for himself) at which point realize get my intention and toss me one too... very annoying. I'm not a griefer, but Bad Company also removed the ability to call out for a medic / ammo... so there was no way to inform friendlies that you required their assistance.

I played 2142 for all of 10 minutes... Bad Company got a couple weeks of my time, but ultimately I was disappointed. IMHO, DICE has lost their way... a real shame. (The Frostbite game engine is pretty sweet though).

Also, on the 1943 site they were talking about console.... please, oh please tell me this game will be on the PC?

Man I played BF:1942 for years, I continued to play the mod "Forgotten Hope" for BF:1942 for 4 years after the release of the game. It was just something about that game that kept me hooked forever.

I know, BF2 was just as good (IMHO) but the last two games have really sucked. The teams were so generic in 2142 that there was just no "life" to the game, and - as I mentioned earlier in the thread - the squad management in Bad Company actually ruined the game for me.

I never got into the Call of Duty line - so I'm holding my breath for this one...

I just bought ArmA on Steam because I saw a really good video where people were actually using tactics instead of just charging the line and shooting as many enemies as they could before they died. Hopefully that's more commonplace in that game.

Aw man. I just saw a gameplay video on youtube for 1943 and one of the devs said that in BF: 1943 players will have unlimited ammo... as if there wasn't enough "spray and pray" in those games... DICE just continues to ruin that franchise. I'm starting to think they got lucky when they came up with the formula for 1942.
