Title: Jobs in Indianapolis
Post by: Meatwad on April 08, 2009, 07:39:18 AM
I will probabally find myself moving to Indy in June. What is the job market like over there?

I will have a degree as a network admin, but would like to try and have a job before the move.

This is an awesome jobsearch site. www.indeed.com

It compiles all of the job announcements from all of the other sites into one list.  My favorite feature is the portion that allows you to remove announcements with any words you specify (using the advanced search option). That cuts out pages & pages of announcements that you'd have to otherwise scroll through.

I live in Indy....  I work as an executive chef..  It's really hit or miss, man..  Some people say they can't find squat, others say Indy is weathering this recession better than others....
I know my restaurant is getting busier as it should this time of year (we are sort of seasonal).  There are lots of hospitals around Indy and I hear of job postings in the health care industry(their IT Depts as well) rising with the aging of the baby boomers (no offense meant at all  :salute)..  I also see guys that have been let go in all sorts of fields that are now waiting tables....  It all depends on where you are looking, your experience, your education, how well you can present yourself, etc.  I know quite a few guys that got pink slips that worked for National City Bank that are now freelancing as consultants and technicians that are doing better than when they had a steady job..  Wish I could help more.. :salute

Ahh, you'll find something...  May have to go through a temp agency for a stint, but you'll find something....
Keep the resume' updated...  Check the health care industry, seriously..  Lots of hospitals around here..
Doesn't hurt to call their HR dept and send in a resume..

Seen there was gobs of health care but I dont even know the slightest first thing about healthcare.

Unforunately for me, I will only have a 2 year degree and not a 4 year one. I should of got one about 6 years ago but made a very bad mistake.

Almost 30 and its too late now to get a 4 year college degree and work a full time job

I'm talking working in health care doing Information Technology...  Most, if not all hospitals have their own IT departments that are fairly large..
A two year degree would put you at a technician's level..  There are lots of warehouses and small businesses as well..  There's an industrial
park called Park100..  Could check out those areas..  Jon hunting here is like anywhere else..  Although it's always good to know people....
There are several colleges around here as well...  IU, IUPUI, Ball State, Butler, Perdue...  They seem to be looking for people on a regular basis..
Just gotta look, man....  Got on Monster.com..  Get yourself a good resume..

I'm sorry I can't be of more help as I haven't worked in that field in a quite a while and in another state..

There should be at least one good newspaper online where you can get your current job openings there.  I'm pretty sure you can get Indy newspapers in your area.  I know they can get them in Paris.

GOOD LUCK!
