Title: Web-Hosting / Web-Hosts
Post by: Denholm on April 08, 2009, 01:35:05 PM
Hello everyone,

I'm attempting to set up a website with the assistance of some close friends. The obvious goal is to try to earn some extra money through advertising. My question is rather simple, who do you know, or who do you think is the best web-host for the job? I know there's websites out there that, "rate" popular web-hosts. However, it has been my experience that some of those websites which supposedly, "rate" the hosts are paid a commission which in turn, "fixes" the rate.

So, does anyone know of a website which truthfully rates web-hosts without getting paid by the companies they're rating? Or does anyone here have any personal experiences with web-hosts they find to be extremely compatible, reliable, and relatively inexpensive?

Thank you all so much for any assistance.

I use bluehost.com / hostmonster.com for a number of sites.  Ahevents.org is hosted on one of these.  Both companies along with fastdomain.com are owned by one gentleman.  They've been reliable for me and if you look at the rate sites, usually you can get a 3 year pre-pay at around $4 or $5/month.

I've used them for both personal use, ahevents.org, and a clients site.

I believe that ahmovies is also hosted on hostmonster.com account.

I was considering hostmonster.com, I just wanted to get some input before I took the plunge.

+1

As to what forHIM says, I do use it and my buddy and I run several other sites off of them.  Best tech support I've had from a web server company in 10 years (at least for the cheaper servers).  Good backend interfaces as well.

+2 for hostmonster.com  Everything was fairly easy, I just had to get some help from some folks with my editor, *cough* forHim & 68Lurch who helped me out tremendously but I'm very pleased with hostmonster.

I was with Ipower for about 10 years. They were great. I only recently changed to another company because the other company handles all my phone and T1 service. Along with that I get smart phone links and web hosting.

I do highly recommend Ipower though.

I used ipower for about 3-4 years before hostmonster.  The customer service was more prompt and better IMO at hostmonster.  Better backend features as well.  Price and plans were similar.
