I'm sitting here AFK on auto-climb in a 38J. I hear a Pony coming in for a pick, I don't feel like maneuvering, so I just sit there. He purposely collides with me and as I fall to my death with basically all my parts missing, he keeps flying with all of his parts and no damage whatsoever.
Come on htc.
For the record...my DSL is connected fine and I have no lag.
-
You know what someone is going to say, "Its your fault because you didn't feel like maneuvering." :aok
-
C'mon now spikes... you must have seen at least one thread about the collision model ;)
Didn't even get halfway through the first page of results lol...

Yup colision model need fixed. :aok
-
It IS fixed.
It's either THIS or NONE, and frankly "NONE" is too training-wheels to really condone.

For the record: The only way to have no lag is not to be connected to the internet.
And how do you now he "purposedly" collided with you?
And last... You didn't feel like maneuvering yet you are complaining about going down? :rofl

What do butts have to do with this? :P

That's not a pick.
He purposely collides
mind reader?

He purposely did because he didn't fire a single round off.
If you say I'm complaining about going down, I guess we have different views. I'm moreso complaining about how he didn't go down with me.
-
Maybe there is a really off chance that you two were auto climbing in to a collision situation. I know it sounds far fetched but that could be that case as I doubt that both of you would just sit there and not move out of the way.
Yes I already know you blessed your plane with +5 protection of ace pilot and you did not feel the need to dodge the incoming aircraft. :rofl
Take that as a joke.
BUt it is possible that he was AFK and your just didn't feel like moving and SHAZAAAAAM you guys exchanged fluids.. (Oil, Fuel.. pull yer mind from the gutter) :rofl
:salute
-
He purposely did because he didn't fire a single round off.
That still has not not be purposedly. Happens to mee too.. I somehow messed up my approach on an afk target, missjudged closure speed, waited too long for the right moment to pull the trigger... and yes. I have run into non maneuvering afk planes.
-

Same.
In fact, ironically, he probably ran into you accidentally because you were on auto climb, while he did not estimate you'd be so slow.
-
when i was adjusting to my rudder pedals i did this quite often :D. forgot to kick them for the right shot and ploughed into the back of people turning or not.
Don't assume he did it on purpose he could have been a 2 week noob for all you know.

I'm with you. I've made the same complaint many times. I understand the argument for the system being the way it is. With internet latency varying from pc to pc, I do not know of a better model.

I was in Bostons after a small bombing run a few days back when a 190 jumps my squady, well I come in from behind to help him out and this guy in his 190 turns right into me and I'll take those odds any day. Well he comes head on and clips one of my drones, get the message so and so has collided with you, I turn expecting to see a 190 falling and He wasn't even smoking. Well I turn towards him and he turns and comes in again and same thing takes out my other drone, get the message so and so has collided, I turn another drone gone and not even white smoke from the 190. so head toward him again here he comes I start firing looks like Christmas tree lights on the front of his 190 and I get the message so and so has collided with you I'm falling out the sky and I bail and he is smoking but still flying. :huh This guy hit all three of my bombers in collisions and fly's away like nothing happened.
-
Last time i played this game. The collision detection was no much better than pong on atari. But thats my opinion. I do believe pong was better.
-
The collision model isn't perfect for reasons such as this but c'mon, you should be dead either way so why does it matter? Overall the collision model is very good.
P.S. I doubt he was trying to ram you.

He SHOT you three times and collided as well. You know you can lose non-vital parts in collisions? Losing an elevator or rudder usually don't cause a plane to smoke.
I would guess that 92.4% of the time a "collision" results in a kill, they were shooting at you.
And, SPIKES, you collided with him, he didn't collide with you. :D
I've had people collide with me, white message, and not get a kill before because they fell out of proxy range before they hit the ground.
Just out of curiosity SPIKES, I know you died, did he get the kill?

This has happened to me multiple times. I am waiting for their break...is it left, is it right, up, down, oh crap he's on auto climb! Evasive maneuvers! UGH...

That should be the next collision model

Barko, do a search. Due to lag over the internet what you see on your screen could be half a second different to what I see on my screen. Half a second at 300 mph is a lot of distance. So at the time you "see" a collision, I could be "seeing" you explode a mile away from me. Why should my plane take damage? I was a mile away!
-
Seems like if the sim can tell there is a collision between 2 specific planes, both should take damage even if it takes a few or several seconds for parts to fall off the second plane. I would accept it but then i dont take this stuff all that seriously.
btw i constantly die in collisions, its usually me going fast not judging closure properly.
-
Just out of curiosity SPIKES, I know you died, did he get the kill?
Yes he got the kill. Though I killed him later in his Pony after he drug me from 15K to the deck stick sturring because my Mossie was then on him.

damn, I agree with Krusty.....of course theres no math involved in this statement! :devil

Shratnal. and shratnal at 300MPH is very deadly

But they BOTH didn't collide. Spikes collided. The other guy didn't collide WITH SNYTHING.

Thanks WW :aok
Finally an explanation that almost anybody can understand. If from the other guy's perspective, Spike's was 100 ft away, but from Spikes perspective, the other guy was minus 5 feet away, then guess what?? Spikes collided.
I just wanna collide with his Avatar :D
Shratnal. and shratnal at 300MPH is very deadly
WTF is shratnal?

It's youtube and google's fault.
It actually gets search hits.
Eventually someone is going to have to post the "collision explanation" picture again.

Mustang may have had tracers off so that's why you don't think he fired.
He also may have been anticipating you to move, so with the speed he was carrying he might not have expected you to be there at that moment.
He might have figured he would blow you up, and his aim was so bad that once he committed himself to that course of action and you didn't blow up it was too late for him to move.
Doesn't sound intentional

I recall Lusche having a great explanation, but he must be getting Damn Sick of doing it over and over and over...

+10 :aok Agreed!
Thats only fair. How many "real world" A/C collide and both don't go down? I'm sure there is a few, but seriously, if there is a collision, then BOTH should die. If one is firing at the time of collision, then give them the kill, but, kill them both. That might reduce the actual "ace pilots" as its put.
-

Actually it would have the opposite effect: Ramming would increase, as it
a) would work guaranteed all the time and
b) the rammed can't even dodge it - enemy would fly by at 100ft distance on your screen and suddenly you would go "boom" from a collision that never happened on your screen.

It's amazing how many people still don't have a clue what's actually going on in an AH collision. No wonder Lusche gets tired of explaining it.

I'm just thinking it's Bronk's turn this time... :D

I think HTC should make a new arena with "both go down in a collision" enabled. Then after a few times of these guys plane exploding for no reason they might start getting the idea. Imagine the out cry !!! "My plane blew up and the only contact was a pony 1k out ! " LOL!!

To be fair, let's turn it on for GV's as well. GV vs GV should be ok, but any plane that got within 1K of a GV would just explode! :rofl Think of the camping possibilities.
I can just see the system message now:
"dr7 was AFK for 4 days and landed 465 kills in a Panzer IV" :rofl
-
But if they fix the collision/prediction code, the spit16 will no longer be dweebish. For those that do not understand this, wait to see the difference after they fix this lol...it will NOT be the same.

I never ceases to amaze me how something that's been explained over and over and over again, with visual aids even, still continues to baffle so many people.
Two computers did not see their planes collide.
Only one did.
And that one went down.
To give it math...
if a plane is going 200mph, it is moving at 293 feet per SECOND.
A lag of 50ms (still a very, very good internet connection), still means There's at least 14 feet difference between what you see, and where you actually are.
If the other person's lag is 100ms (still not a bad internet connection), they are 28 feet between what they see and where they actually are.
That's a 42 feet difference in where you two see where you are, and where your planes actually are.
When you're talking about aircraft who's length and wingspan are almost always under 40 feet... you're talking 1 entire plane away.
This is overly simplistic, and honestly, a "best case" scenario.
In other words, they did not collide with you. Period.
You did, however, collide with where your computer thought they were, a whole 40+ feet away from where they thought they were.
-
You can be 200 yards or more apart from each other on YOUR end and ramming on the OTHER end. Imagine saddling up on a con to kill him and BOOM you're in the tower.
YEAH... collisions for both if either hits will really be helpful </sarcasm>

Let's see. If Billy and Judy board two trains, Billy gets on one from Chicago to Memphis and Judy gets on one from
San Jaun to Miami. Who will arrive first?
A) Billy ate sushi for dinner
B) Judy was able to watch "Lil Abner"
C) Billy got a flat but got it fixed
D) Judy had chest pains

I for one am glad to see this topic FINALLY brought to the boards for discussion...

What is there to fix? It isn't broken so why does it need to be fixed? What needs to be done is players educating themselves on how the collision model works.

Why, do you ask, did Judy have chest pains?
1) she was having a heart attack
2) she was flying and rammed some dude in a buff
3) she was choking on a McDonalds french frie
4) too much water intake

Sorry Cajunn. Was replying to two posts at the same time. Confusing?
What I was trying to say is, the fact that there was a collision, that he collided with you at all, is immaterial in your case. He shot you down and, coincidentally, collided with you as well.
The fact is, you were shot. Ignore the collision.
As I mentioned before, a collision doesn't necessarily result in "smokey" damage. Rudder, aileron, flap. Doesn't have to be an engine oil thing.
wrongway

Generally, when I am involved in a collision I am maneuvering and don't even see the person I've collided with. The collisions I usually see happening are when I get fed up an HO a picker and he doesn't blow up first and we plow into each other.
