Title: "Double-Superior"
Post by: BnZs on April 10, 2009, 07:31:56 PM
Since some are apparently unfamiliar with what this term means, and apparently think it means "velly, velly good", I reference Shaw:

A "double-superior" condition occurs when one fighter has both significantly higher T/W [Thrust-weight ratio] and lower wing loading than its opponent. Obviously the unlucky adversary in this situation is "double-inferior".

--Robert Shaw, Fighter Combat, page 183.

Thank you, that is all.

Not at all condescending or conceited, bravo!

So, what about it?

That's it.

You woke me up to clarify a definition any passable student of ACM already knows?  For no other reason than to show us you finally mastered 3rd grade reading level?   :D

Some apparently did not know what it meant. Since I was accused of using this term as a superlative indicating "double-plus-good" or the like, I wanted to make clear what the term actually means.

And you've proved what exactly with this love muffinery? That it is quite physically safe to make unprovoked insults on the internet? Some of us learned that a long time ago,  and long ago realized what it indicates about the...hmmm....let us say the "dorsal coloration" of the person doing it.

Does this mean we're on double secret probation now?

Or did you just double dog dare us? :)

I was completely ignorant of that definition.  Good post (so long as you ignore the trolls).

I'm glad I was born in '93 so I didn't have to put up with the full 10 years of this crap (by 'this crap' I mean the 90's as a whole) :D

Thanks for the clarification, BnZs.

EDIT:

Mk XVI still isn't double-superior to all free fighters, but it is too many, as are some other free fighters compared to others.

No problem. :)

Indeed, the SpitXVI labors under the tremendous burden of only having a higher T/W *or* a lower wing loading compared to some free aircraft. ;)

Agree or disagree, I hope you realize my theory that the SpitXVI presents a viability problem in the MA for a broad middle class of aircraft in between the uber-turners and speed-demons is NOT something I'm just making up to stick in your craw.  :salute

Other fighters have that "problem" too, so I don't see how that singles the Spit XVI out.  It is obviously one of the best free fighters in the game, but there will always be a few fighters that qualify as that.  Even if everything after 1941 were perked, there'd still be a subgroup that could be called "best free fighters" and that people would use over the other free fighters.

Whoa dude. Are you serious? The 90's were f-king awesome. You honestly don't know what you missed. Geez I'd say you're making me feel old, but you're not, you're just making you feel uninformed. Nirvana, Tecmo Bowl, and Jurassic Park were infinitely better than what I suppose is your decade of Ryan Seacrest, Nickelback, and banning losing from dodgeball.

Please note the 'smiley' at the end of my message.  I was trying, in a funny way to say that you hadn't really informed us as to why this was important at that moment to post.  I felt there had to be a reason why you chose to post that clarifying definition.

Learn to assume first, that someone is being, funny or trying to be clever, possiblly with feigned sarcasim or some other emotion (that might be given away by the emoticons) before you whine that the Internet gremlins are out to get you.  In other words, ask if it's not clear if your a target or just a foil for the funnies.
This forum would be alot more pleasant if people didn't jump in defense of nothing so quickly.    :salute

Yeah, but I really don't miss seeing every dude's boxer shorts at school each day, or is that still the fashion?  I don't know, I'm almost 30. :lol

I was born in 92 and watched nickelodeon all the time, now it sucks.  It seems most everything on TV sucks now except the science/history/military/outdoor channels.  Even cartoon network was better with such greats as Johnny Bravo, Cow and Chicken, and the ever classic Tom and Jerry.  No clue what's on it now but the last time I checked it was complete crap.

I'm still waiting for TV land to stop sucking and replay some I love Lucy, Munsters, Adam's Family, Dick Van Dyke, etc.

Here in Oregon, that fashion didn't seem to catch on very much.  There were (and still are) a select few that hang their pants low, but I don't see many of them.  Never saw the attraction personally, its much more comfortable having them at your waist.  I'm 20 just for reference.
