Title: Could not connect to host
Post by: Nativecat on April 11, 2009, 05:22:30 AM
Hi,

I'm having trouble connecting to Aceshigh.  I can view the web page and subsequently have been informed by staff that it's a firewall issue not allowing me to connect if this is possible.

I've looked into the firewalls I'm running; Windows vista and McAfee. I've given permission for AH to connect and still have no luck as it keeps timing out and I receive the message: Could not connect to host.

Any ideas?

Well, the software firewalls are practically useless. It won't hurt you to turn them off for 10 minutes to test the theory that it's the firewall blocking you from connecting to the HTC servers. By the way, welcome aboard.

Let us know what happens.

The problem might be McAfee not really turning off.  You might actually have to remove McAfee before you can connect.  I have seen this happen with both McAfee and Norton under Vista.

I assume you have Service Pack 1 for Vista installed as well.

Oh, wow! I'm surprised this software hasn't been marked as spyware in itself.

I have done that also, turned off firewalls, without any luck. Remove McAfee? Drastic but possible, any other options before I embark on that route?

If you are behind a router, the router could have a firewall in it which is blocking aceshigh.exe from accessing the Internet.
