Title: colling fan surging, causing warping and choppy graphics
Post by: NavyOne1978 on April 13, 2009, 07:31:38 PM
i have an acer 5100 laptop i play aces high on.  It never had a problem till a little while ago.. the graphics started geting choppy, and game speed slowed down, then surged extra fast. (like i was playing at 2-4 times faster than normal time) like time compression..  I then noticed the cooling fan on my laptop was surging in synch with the speed up and slow downs... any ideas??  think its the temp sensor for the cooling, or something with the processor temp.. But I dont know.

I think, what are you doing playing on a lap top.

Check inside to see if it's dirty. Check for programs running in the back ground.

Could be dust buildup.  Playing the game is going to heat up the CPU and graphics chip.  If there is any dust buildup, the CPU could slow itself down until it is cooled off, then speed up again.

You might consider a cooling pad for your laptop. They provide an additional exhaust fan, which draws air circulation from the bottom fins of your L.T. Use a can of compressed air on the L.T. fins at least once @ mo.

I would just replace the fans altogether. Fans with bushings wear out quickly so look at ball bearing fans. When a fan wears out it can make a sound like its having trouble spinning which might be the surging sound you mention.
